I wouldn't say that, more that there isn't an obvious pick thanks to the nature of the games. Still, if I think a DaS rep in general would get a ton of people excited and there are plenty of good choices. Ornstein, Artorias, Gwyn, Soul of Cinder, Gael, a Knight of Catarina, even Solaire could honestly work. I'd even take just a generic Chosen Undead, as lame as that'd be compared to getting an NPC or boss.
There are some fine ER reps too of course, but I'd be disappointed if that got represented over the DaS trilogy.

It's less that they turned their backs on Geno and moreso they got the ends to their means. Getting Geno in smash was to lead to a SMRPG remake or something akin to it. Once people realized that they didn't need Geno as a fighter in Smash to get their game, you started seeing less of them in Smash threads, not to say that there aren't supporters still hoping for him as a playable character, but they pretty much got their holy grail, so a playable Geno in Smash is just an extra.

In the case of K. Rool and Banjo-Kazooie, they need Smash to keep them in the spotlight. The irony that Geno was the MVP out of all the never-evers.
