On rewatching some parts I found it interesting that the real Verso made the Grandis, a race who are all about eloquent speech, and painted Verso talks about how he loves writing and poetry. Looking at his other creations, especially the Gestrals/Monoco/Esquie he seems like a normal red-blooded little boy who wants cool guys who fight stuff. This one race seems out of character for him.
I have nothing to support this, but I wonder if there's childhood history with the Writers and they weren't always at war. Like I could see a little Writer boy enjoying the Canvas with Verso and Clea as children, with the two rubbing off on each other before their families began feuding.
