In the end, what ultimately screwed over Melty Blood: Type Lumina more as a fighter? Nasu's indecisiveness regarding the roster due to overestimating how much people care about story as reason to exclude characters (and including Fate characters as a betrayal to Tsukihime fans who DID care), or its trying-too-hard-to-be-accessible mechanics changes like autocombos and shield?
In the end, what ultimately screwed over Melty Blood: Type Lumina more as a fighter...
roster and mechanics
Melty Blood was always a niche game. The memetic nature of Melty in the bathroom jokes convinced them that there was a large fan base than there is. It probably did reasonably well for a fighting game all said and done.
we cant include the main character of the series because we are focusing on making the game canonical
LOOK AT LE FUNI CAT IT IS SUMMONING GACHA CHARACTERS
New mechanics are gimmicky and don't do enough to differentiate the game from other games in the scene. OG Melty's X factor, the thing that you could feel within moments of picking it up was freedom of mobility and this game really doesn't do anything to add to that. Widescreens and their consequences were a disaster for the FGC.
Still fun though. Just doesn't do enough to pull people away from the older entry
new mechanics were incredibly divisive
roster held back by lore autism
fpan engine sucks dick
shit netcode even by rollback standards
pc port is garbage
next question
It doesn't have to be either or, it's both.
Fate ruined Type Moon
But HA is good.
Don't release EN Nu-Tsukihime soon enough
Consoles only so the fantranslation patchwork is even harder
Too much shield rock-paper-scissors
Put in shitter FGO chars and Nu-Tsukihime OCs instead of Sion, Warachia, Nero or any of the old Melty faces
tl:dr: They made a fighting game for a VN no one outside Japan played yet and ignored that Melty was its own thing.
Season 1 being complete ass
People seem to have forgotten, but like UNI2 TL suffered from a terrible initial release where matches wouldn't synchronize if you skipped the intros, and even if you didn't skip them, there was a chance of them getting fucked anyway. Took them a month or so to fix it. By then, most of the new, non MB players/Fatefags had already quit shield controversy or not
Honestly I think the whole shield orderal was exaggerated as they obviously had counterplay and as opposed from Soul Calibur 6's RPS you also had the option to not take part into the RPS aspect of it when you weren't getting punished. All those clashing frames on moon drive and wakeup moon drive were way worse problems that would only get addressed later.
Shield RPS and a buffer that ended up making execution more difficult than it had to be.
All they had to do was make AACC with new graphics
Restricting fan favorite characters that people liked to play with due to lore reasons was absurd
Especially when Lumina already has characters that spoils Remake's story,so why even bother?
The roster was the least of this game's concerns. It's so fucking boring with
damage numbers evened across the board
the modern fighting game staple of hard knockdowns only possible after an EX ender unless you play Kouma
combos so stilted that the combo you learned day 2 is pretty much 98% the same as the optimal ones you'll be doing now
2nd hit of the combo stabilizing your combos is nearly mandatory and basically built into the game
just EX ender that goes into automatic launch > air throw > save your double jump for a mix
brainless moon moves that basically skip neutral for you for the shitters. you start out with a full bar of that by the way
The autocombo stuff being incredibly intrusive and shield mechanics got addressed over time by that point the damage was already done. Forget the roster, the gameplay itself is boring as shit
The distinction in Nasu's mind is that MBTL is spoiling a story that's out. Can't do that when Red Garden and Remake-verse's Melty Blood haven't even be written yet.
As an Ex-rank player, I regret the money I spent on this game.
movesets also weren't properly mirrored, I remember
discovered weeks after launch
The cat probably helped boost sales
Nasu probably saw Type Lumina as an effective promotional material made with the intention of creating hype, nothing more. Main difference here is that the og MB was a new story, while TL's arcade mode is made of a bunch of nonhappenings that are there to convince you to buy the remake.
Funny to think that Sion and Ries will get to be a duo now because Sacchin got promoted to main heroine.
She can leave those two lesbo hobos to rot
lesbo hobos
lmao, I am stealing that.
No one cares about MB other than boomers who are deep in the TM rabbit hole. TL just exposed the shit gameplay for what it was to the new generation so now no one can pretend MB was ever good.
Would bringing back moon styles help type lumina in being more fun to play with?
Shitty network infrastructure at launch, low shield being able to catch mids, moon skills being broken. Lets be honest though, the real reason is because anime fighting game players will talk up a game until its actually time to support the game
is Serikamo doing okay?
I hope so
Fix the combo scaling and the abundant meter and then worry about moons.
How can you post something like this as a fact when you haven't played either game? TL is nothing like AACC or even AA
Those twitter kids and twitch kids never touch the games they talk about. Doesn't help MBTL was pretty boring overall.
He streams pretty consistently and frequently. Seems to have gotten an artist to draw him some new thumbnails for his Q&A videos on YT. That or he took the time to draw it himself because he can actually draw a bit.
Bring her back
She'll be back.
In about 5-8 years.
And all the Fate Grand Order shilling. fuck that.
Also feels like Nasu really wanted to make an FGO fighter, but was forced to make another Melty due to brand recognition.
I actually played offline AACC casually for a few weeks and refunded TL within 2 hours. I'm baiting a bit, but the series really is overrated and I'm vindicated in calling out Anons who always said it was a top tier fighter that was unknown simply because it was a doujin game.
The crappy autocombos being default for sure, they added opt out later down the line and it is crazy how much better it feels, coming from actress again current code, lumina completely lost its identity, no idea why they added ushiwakanaru if they were going to censor her also, feels stupid
Nasu still doesn't understand how big his company is. He just wanted something to coincide with Tsuki Re's release and remembered MB was a thing so why not have them release close to one another?
Melty's brand is miniscule compared to FGO, I'm sure the latter would have dwarfed MBTL's numbers if that project was kept.
won't add Sion, Len etc. due to lore autism, but...
...has Akiha show her Crimson Vermillion powers anyway, despite not being shown in the two remake routes
add Fate characters instead to shill FGO
Bravo, Nasu!
No, the ones who wanted to make a Fate fighter was actually French Bread. The reason Saber and Ushiwakamaru are in the game was because they were the original prototype characters for the proposed fighter. But their request was vetoed because Type-Moon wanted them to make a new Melty Blood instead. The reason Saber and Ushiwakamaru were in was because, well, they already had the assets.
was there even an arcade that broadcasted TL over AACC?
I forget if it ever had an arcade port.
It released right during covid to boot.
You're technically not wrong, but I don't think I see too many people calling it a "top tier" fighter in 2024-25.
It used to be though, but it kinda fucked guilty gear X in the ass, and the resulting buttbabies formed the foundation of anime fighters going forward. Most everything post-melty is superior except in roster and soundtrack(and aacc even managed to jank that part up a bit.)
convinced them that there was a large fan base than there is
If anything they underestimated it. The game sold way more than anybody expected it to.
Roster problems and not releasing it after finishing the Tsukihime remake.
Fate characters are fine but Ushiwaka has literally 0 reason to be in this.
Dantes has links to Roa, Saber is Saber and Mash is just the FGO shill.
Ryougi Shiki and Sion not in is stupid.
Fate characters are fine
Kill yourself
It was three big issues:
Nasu's tism that restricted the roster.
Nasu's laziness in finishing the remake.
The annoying RPS system.
Fate is the reason you're getting new Tsuki stuff, retard.
And none of that new stuff is any good. In fact, I rather acknowledge the anime than the garbage "remake". Would be a lot better if Fate didn't exist so Nasu wouldn't shit on Tsukihime's grave.
TsukiR is good, faggot. Ciel's route clears the original.
is good
It's a fucking piece of shit that respects the original. Go back to play FGO, faggot.
Then why are you in a thread about the new stuff?
I bet you were jumping for joy when they announced the Remake back in the early 2010s
OP asks why new Melty is shit
"huurrr why are you in a thread you hate???"
Retard. I was excited for the remake back then, but always criticize the redesigns.
my wife
In the end, what ultimately screwed over Melty Blood
everything after react except aoko going sugoi sugoi which can be forgiven
