Some directors cut of the game where it's maelle from the start and her tagging along with gustave so it's still the same intro just from her perspective, then after the landing switch to gustave until you meet up with maelle again would work. I think his death would have had more impact if he was portrayed as a close ally rather than the player.

This, Gustavé only died because the writters were put against the wall, he asks too many questions, Lune is supposed to be inquisitive about the world but she is too austitic to care about Verso, with Gustavé around no way the group would continue with Verso after Old Lumiere with Gustavé around, he was not trustworthy, and its interesting, because Gustavé being "against" verso in the team could make the dialogue better in act 2 and 3 (that takes a nose dive in quality/) and would make Verso fear of sharing more realistic.
