The structure of the nu-Doom games is more arcade-y, as in they want you to replay multiple times through higher difficulties and alternative game modes, to unlock even more stuff and get hi-score. It's not bad in itself, but sucks if you're only interested in a single playthrough of the main campaign.
Plus what said. I bet a good chunk of the content got cut with the purpose of packaging it as a DLC later.

The only reason I enjoyed Doom 2016 was because of a particular combination of runes that gave me infinite ammo so I can use the railgun in its big dick turret mode to 1 shot most enemies with infinite ammo. The catch to it was that if your armor fell below a certain level you lost infinite ammo so you had to be very good at dodging and staying at max health and armor. It was genuinely fun.
Then Eternal came out with its bing bing wahooing and even less ammo capacity without the infinite rune, and fuck that shit.
This new game looks even gayer. Bethesda sucks.

I have played half the game so far. It is great. HOWEVER: The performance is bad, the visuals are muddy, smeary, and lack clarity, and I find myself rubbing my eyes. Maybe they can improve the graphics with patches, but it takes me out of the experience when I feel like everything is too foggy and blurry so I have to ride the map button to tell where I am and where I am going next.

Have you guys ever actually watched high level Eternal gameplay? The camera barely even fucking moves, because most of the depth revolves around spamming weapon swaps and caressing your entire keyboard.
It's the logical conclusion of console gameplay, if you think about it. Taking a genre intended primarily for mouselook, and changing it so that you're thinking more about APM than where you're crosshair is.
I know some of you will disagree but legitimately pay attention when you watch Eternal webms. There is a lot of movement and gun tech for sure, but the aiming is more static than a game with aim assist.
That's also why fanboys harp on about alternative solutions to killing certain enemies. It's literally so you can skirt around having good accuracy.

The mongoloids that are the modern gaming audience needs some sort of carrot on a stick to keep them playing. And no, good gameplay isn't enough to do that.
Honestly I wouldn't mind the upgrades if they were acquired more like in DMC games where you go to statues to upgrade stuff and get more moves. At least that would make watching streamers play this much more tolerable since they wouldn't constantly open up the fucking menu.

Also fuck the map menu. It looks almost as bad as a map in an ubishite game, and because it's so useful you have to open it up constantly to find secrets.

The glorykill shit and some weapon weaknesses ruins Eternal for me.
There was just too much glory killing it's just not a good mechanic, everything you kill is done in a cutscene, this shit sucks, you could not ignore it either, most demons get dazzed and get some armor during their animation, it just doesn't feel good to waste ammo to finish them off instead of the glory kill in a game where ammo was artificially limited in the first place. The ammo management btw is just a tedious unnecessary mechanic too, since it's only a matter of chainsawing them every so often in a, guess what, ANOTHER lame cutscene everytime you do it. Not fun, bloated mechanic in an overdesigned game.
Some of weapon weaknesses are good (plasma gun for plasma shield, sniping guns off of heavies, that make sense) but the majority sucks (shotgun nade launcher becoming the official anti-Caco addon that's the worst exemple but the whole game is full of dumb shit like this, they force more and more Simon-says mechanics instead of giving more depth to the game in a more organic way)
The game forces you to play in a specific way that I think just isn't fun and is not flexible enough. I know that many techs exist that challenges this argument, but Eternal's tech are just super lame to me, the weapon switching to increase DPS looks particularly ridiculous and it's not actual gameplay depth.
