Yeah, all the companion quests give story details, as well as the Clea arc.
There are a couple of intro/outro cutscenes for the Clea and Simon boss fights, but they're mostly fluff with a tiny bit of lore.
Maelle's quest should have been part of the main story it has so much stuff.
