i don't agree with Anon Babble on games because they have this uncanny ability to always like the same franchises as me but also the worst games in those franchises and for the worst reasons. They converge on the butthole of everything I like.

I'm playing dmc 3 for the first time, also first time I play any dmc game. I know if you play this game for 2k hours you can do some crazy stylish combos, but for a beginner the combat is very very mashy and somewhat unappealing. Some moves even require you to mash like crazy to make it come out it like that million stab move, makes my fucking hand hurt and it's inconsistent.
Also I don't like that you need to sacrifice some moves from swordmaster and gunslinger that would add a little move variety if you want decent dodges. Fucking trickster should be part of the default moveset.

Do you need to collect blue orb fragments with the DLC characters in 4? Doing the secret missions has probably taken years off my life from stress and I'm never doing it again, but I also want to play as Trish
boot up DMC1 for the first time expecting a fun hack n' slash with lots of combos, even if it's barebones
get a sword fighting resident evil, but without the things I like about RE games
you don't even have air combos until much later in the game when you unlock the vortex skill, and even then, air combos are not only tied to your devil trigger, bur also very limited
Still an enjoyable game tho. But I'd like it more if I knew what to expect. Maybe now I'll enjoy it more if I decide to replay it.
DMC1 really shines on the higher difficulties, you need to start using your entire moveset and learn the bosses properly. It makes you appreciate how deliberate a lot of the game's design is.

the point is that when you you were a teenage girl with no job so when you got a game like DMC you were stuck with it for weeks/months before being able to afford a new game so you replayed DMC until you were good enough to fight through all difficulties.
at higher difficulties they absolutely pelt you with red arrows that do a quarter of your health, backdash at mach speed if you get within a quarter mile of them, and even if you do manage to back them in to a wall they have super armor while charging the red arrows and will just unload right in your face while you're trying to wail on them
the solution is to alternate rocket shots and nevan's stinger dash to approach them while covered by bats that cancel out projectiles and interrupting their backdashes with rockets
i'm too stupid to learn how to use Nevan
