I ran Linux on my PC 2 years ago and it didn't go well. Minecraft would randomly freeze, and couldn't get games like Saints Row running at all.
I hope Linux support changed since then. Games not working on Linux is what stops me from using it all the time.

It's not present on the base price of the Steam Deck, which is what I should have properly specified. I still mentioned the Deck has a dock mode anyway, but it's nowhere as practical as on Switch, especially in the middle of a game.

I have 2 switches, a ally and getting a switch 2.
My mood switches from time to time between the ally and my switch.

Thats a fair assessment. I have a deck because I play a ton of niche roguelikes like cdda or non steam games like starsector which just aren't available on other platforms. Being able to turn joysticks or touchpads into radial menus in a keyboard heavy roguelike makes this device for me.
Also unoptimized jap action stuff like nioh but I think ally would do those better

My desk chair is some chinesium racer gamer chair I only have because my dad found it left in the box in an apartment he was maintenancing, it's so fucking uncomfortable I would rather lie in bed and snuggle up with stuffed animals and blankets
Even without that I had a lot of problems getting out of bed in general after being depressed for over a decade and essentially just living in my bedroom all the time so a portable system like the switch and deck removes the barrier for me actually playing stuff instead of just lying down doing nothing for 15+ hours every day until I fall asleep

I want a proper PC so I can play games at not potato settings and actually appreciate how hot girls in games are and I also want to AI generate stuff and data hoard, half the space on my deck and 99% of the space on my phone is just pictures of anime girls that aren't even properly backed up or sorted and it drives me insane and makes me so scared about losing it all because I don't have a powerful system with a lot of space to anchor me and let me stop being worried about stupid things like melting the usb ports on my dock trying to move hundreds of thousands of files to a random external hard drive

The Steam Deck just leaves me wanting more.
It's a weird mental gymnastics thing, but when I play shit on the Switch I feel more comfortable with its limitations whereas if something's running with slight issues on the Deck I don't want to play it at all.

Tinkering on the Deck is also annoying without a dock and there's so much little shit I want to run on it that's frustrating to tinker with.
For instance I think the PC version of Toy Story 2 or one of the old Harry Potter PC games needed some patches on Windows itself which meant I needed to go through a thousand folders to find which one's got the proton folder belonging to Toy Story 2, none of which being clearly labelled.
