Finding secrets and combing through every obscure corner of a work trying to wring out every last detail to sate your curiosity is an actual narrative theme of the game, and given how aware of the current landscape of those things he is (and how much he loves getting creative and painting with the medium), I reckon he's including all that stuff in his plans now instead of trying to prevent it.

All the white numbers represent chapters where you progress the Weird Route, and vice versa for all the black numbers

The size of the number is how much the Chapter will change depending on if you're doing the Weird Route or not

Chapter 1 is the smallest because you can't do shit to change the flow of events, only either getting the Card Castle citizens to deal with the King or getting Susie to pacify him

So even though you can't progress the Weird Route in Chapter 3 (because you have no way to meet Noelle again during then), the Chapter will still dramatically change if you pulled a Weird Route.

Recruits are Darkners that you've spared. Starting from Chapter 2, you need to spare a certain number of each type of Darkner in order to recruit them into the main Castle Town.

When we're talking about this people need to keep in mind that Undertale released almost ten years ago and was expected to be a modestly successful indie game, not a defining game of the generation that would draw hundreds of millions of views on Youtube.

It's easy to imagine he might have intended to do some kind of ARG or otherwise use the material to promote Deltarune as he shifted focus to it, but Undertale's extraordinary success and its encouragement of its own fans to explore absolutely everything about the game made this obsolete. By the end of 2015 everyone already knew who W. D. Gaster was (and Deltarune was still far away). His reaction to this and his different approach with Deltarune is just an adaptation to the reality of the modern internet and the extraordinary scrutiny that will unavoidably come to his own work.
