I get the impression that he's compensating for dataminers since that moment, hiding more things that you can ONLY find by poking through the files and making them MORE diegetic, and making actual hidden gameplay elements harder to find naturally to offset the fact that people are going to be looking them up or sharing them with each other instead of having to discover it on an individual basis in this day and age. Finding secrets and combing through every obscure corner of a work trying to wring out every last detail to sate your curiosity is an actual narrative theme of the game, and given how aware of the current landscape of those things he is (and how much he loves getting creative and painting with the medium), I reckon he's including all that stuff in his plans now instead of trying to prevent it.
