I'm playing this for the first time on ps2, I just beat Seymour. I don't even like JRPG's but the forgiving nature like full life recharge on saves, no grinding, fun leveling, swapping characters make it fun. I'm in no rush to finish it because I'm having a good time

I believe it was either the franchises foray into MMOs' or XII. I loved the lore of Ivalice when I was a kid playing Tactics and Tactics Advance. Then when I played 12, I couldn't get behind the main character or half of the characters. I did want to fuck Fran like very other coomer back then, but that was besides the point. I beat the game feeling pretty hollow about it. I've sort of felt that way about every game in the franchise after X (X-2, XII, XIII, XIII-2, XIII-3, XV). I'm currently playing through XVI and that same hollow feeling continues on. Either I grew too old, or Square-Enix isn't capable of crafting good stories anymore. It's probably a combination of both, but I'm leaning towards the later solely based on the VII "remakes". What little fun I had with Remake died with Rebirth. I can't bring myself to get past Costa Del Sol because I just know there's more mini-games waiting for me.

If the original FFVII had this many mini-games, I doubt Cloud and the party could ever save the planet because of the number of mini-games that bogged down their quest.

The Spencer Mansion in RE1 was evidently inspired in no small part by the Outlook Hotel in The Shining.
