I can't get behind SS, it's just VW but instead of having a main character you're stuck with the cardboard piece of shit Byleth.
It pushes the burden of primary pillar of the narrative onto Seteth but he just doesn't have the emotional investment in the conflict (his only real motivation being to keep his daughter safe) to make for a compelling emotional core. Say what you will of Claude, but he has actual stakes in the central conflict.

I've read the library books except the ones about the noble houses (which I've only skimmed through). They don't mention this stuff. The church of Seiros books just list stuff like "the goddess is love", "don't dishonor the goddess" etc. The history of Fodlan books only cover the advent of Seiros, the king of liberation, formation of the empire, the Faerghus heresy etc. Nothing about how Sothis created a race of mutants.

The Slithers fought amongst themselves and then Sothis after she gave them the knowledge to develop Nukes and mech not before. That's why she destroyed them and that's why the entire continent was destroyed.
The reason the slithers refer to modern Fodlans as beasts is because Sothis created them, there's even a dialogue of Thales or was it Solon stating that the forced demonic forms of the students like the ones that Kronya abducted are the true forms of those beasts(Fodlans).
It's why Fodlan people are so compatible with crests and why they can transform into demonic dragons via the relics.
