Well done AI images that are not just "hurr durr 1girl bobs vegana" are already practically indistinguishable from "regular" images. (it is arguable whether pic related counts, it is one of the few I have saved)

There is everything to hate in waste of data that serves no purpose, whether it is AI or not, and AI is very efficient at generating that crap. It pisses me off to see galleries of thousands of generic 1girl images uploaded hourly.

As for taking "artist's" income, I don't see professional artists being particularly threatened. They are probably going to be required to learn these methods to some degree, but that is not much different from the requirement of knowing photoshop on the long run, or the way photographers supplanted magazine illustrators while professional illustration as a field survived nonetheless.

I pity people who seriously think being a twitter commission artist is a viable career option. Some people can make a fat living out of that, but it is not the ones who are threatened by AI.

There is virtually no creativity or passion involved with ai generated content so it always comes out as generic and mediocre at best. There's also the fact that it is always full of mistakes and consistency issues that no artist worth anything would ever make. Plus there is something nauseating about the art styles of ai. The best way I can describe it is the uncanny valley but for stylized images. Everything looks simultaneously too clean and smooth but also full of noticeable flaws

It's not AI directly but the people behind AI. We are replacing people that put years into thinking and developing skills, figuring things out, trying to learn how to make something appealing, put hours into a picture trying to create the best for a certain context. We are replacing people that have chosen mastery in a craft as a life path, for people that are absolutely worthless in any aspect and their only "ability" is that they have zero conscience or qualms of abusing anything to get some kind of result.

And the results of these two will never be the same, no matter how good AI becomes.
