Epic just hates their own history. Half Life got a 25th anniversary update, and Nightdive is giving System Shock 2 an enhanced edition. I don't see any love like that for Unreal.

What pissed me off a little was how much inspiration Pizza Tower took from Jazz Jackrabbit 2 with basically no acknowledgement.
JJ2 was the first thing that came to my mind when playing that game. Looking into it a little, McPig's did site it as a heavy inspiration for his earlier games, but there's not mention of it for Pizza Tower. Pizza Tower zoomies would love JJ2 if they could find it, but it's been scrubbed from history by it's creator and the people who were inspired by it.
There could at this point be some controversy behind the IP. Old game dev was a lot smaller circles and a lot more personal, maybe there's something they want to keep in the past there. I don't know, is the name spaz too much now? It doesn't make sense that it's been basically scrubbed from existence. Jazz is a good mascot, it could be like Epic's own sonic.

It definitely should get its own skin as well, I agree. Epic sometimes seems ashamed of its past, it'll do little nods but the only Unreal stuff they have are two characters from UT4 and a lobby track for Facing Worlds.
I don't know what that would be besides teasing cliffy about being a cuck. Even then I'm sure he'd be fine with anything being done with the Jazz Jackrabbit IP. I think its more so that Epic has become a moneychasing company. That's why Jazz died for Unreal and why Unreal died for Fortnite. All these IPs are just being sat on, some not even having the luxury of retirement on GOG. We have the highest count of furfags in history at this point so I highly doubt it would be the aesthetic of Jazz.

Basically this. A lot of stuff they've published got released out of their grip, so you have stuff like Tyrian released for free on GoG. Their own internal stuff was like ZZT, Xargon, Jill, Jazz, Dare to Dream and of course Unreal. They don't have that much of a legacy outside of Unreal - they were mostly a publisher with using a shareware model.
That being said - Jazz 3D was in the works and there's an alpha floating around. It would be cool if someone actually continued that but nowadays mascot 3D platformer market is oversaturated.

By DOS platformer standards, it's actually pretty top end and it was one of the more widely known franchises. The big games from id were probably better known but not much else was.
It doesn't really compare to Mario and Sonic at the time in terms of quality though.

I think I agree. The pool of platformers back then with good coop play was miniscule. Jazz 2 with local coop would have been the shit on snes or genesis.
DOS didn't have a whole lot of shareware platformers as good as this

The years (and the technology) don't line up. It would have been a playstation game if it was ported to a console. It would have easily been one of the better games on the whole console if they managed to do that. Pixel graphics could look pretty good on ps1 like Symphony of the night and lesser known games like Adventures of Lomax and even games like Worms Armageddon were good enough.

Yes, and I'm talking specifically about Jazz 1 here. Which I replayed a few years ago, and also played as a kid on my windows 95 pc with a turbo button.
The gameplay is not a direct copy of sonic, but its art style, and small segments of levels are very clearly sonic inspired. I know the majority of the game is platforming, spamming your gun, and looking for secret walls and finding the exit. The levels are fairly linear but still less so than sonic games.
If you can't see the Sonic influence all over Jazz 1 you are fucking blind. Frankly the go fast segments in Jazz suck, especially compared to Sonic, because theres barely any gameplay in them. They are pure padding hallways, but they also arent in every level.
