The whole "anti-corporate anarchist" stuff was tacked on by faggots in the 90s and 00s. OG Cyberpunk was about survival in the massive, uncaring techno-future. Characters like Johnny Mnemonic or Case weren't fighting for a grander vision, they were just getting by, often by the skin of their teeth. In Case's situation he did it for the thrill of it, and for Johnny it was purely a way to make ends meet.
