Old Save Bonus

Game is a sequel

Gives you a special bonus for having a save file from the previous game

What games implemented this feature the best?

Witcher 2

sister plays all mass effect games from start to finish

she refuses to import her character data and kept making a new save

when i asked her why she didn't take advantage of this feature she had a melty

what causes this

I don't get it, doesn't Mass Effect 2 give you all the worst possible choices if you don't import saves?

GOD TIER: Imports player choices and stats from previous game

HIGH TIER: Imports player choices or stats from previous game

MID TIER: Game just detects a save and gives you a little bonus

There's no low or bottom for this feature

Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes and fuga melodies of steel 2

import save data in from hack gu 1 to hack gu 2

use a 2 hander sword 20 levels behind from the first game because it's move set allows you to stun lock enemies making it the best weapon

the devs might have known about this because 2 handers dont even drop as frequently

haseo.png - 487x268, 241.45K

gives you a good goy bonus for supporting the game in the early days

get two blunt swords, a complimentary pajeeta, one butt bag and a silenced carbine

Witcher 3 only imports choices

Only one of them actually matters(Letho), the other one just changes like one scene(That Lordling at the beginning), the rest change fuckall

There is that Blue Stripes tattoo but I really began to hate it as I progressed through Witcher 3 and kind of wished I had gotten it removed. Convinced me to never get a tattoo IRL at least.

Zero Witcher 1 choices persist. Just a few dialogue choices here and there to hint at what you did in that game.

I guess I can't be mad considering how big Witcher 3 was but damn.

I was the idiot that played the games in reverse. My reasoning was that I can ease myself into the jank of the older games this way. At least I had a unique experience that no one else did.

There was this one game where you fought against you from a previous game, it only imported your outfits but still it was a cool boss fight.
oh also gat out of hell. The boss has the same customization as your last save from iv though he only appears in openning and ending cutscenes

As shitty as dexcuts are, it's amazing Gamefreak has been able to maintain this for so long. I still have some of my Gen 3s in my Home account. I think they're going to settle permanently on Home though as your hub for Pokemon.

I don't mind that the previous game transfers are a postgame only thing. Obviously the game wouldn't be fun if you just imported a completely overpowered team.

For example: The gear transfers in Witcher 2 only worked because Raven's armor and the endgame swords lasted you for the first few hours, and much longer than the starting gear if you didn't have it. If it was broken endgame gear than I couldn't see the game being fun.

Besides, wasn't Geralt supposed to canonically lose Aerondight in that early game dragon encounter?

If you didn't play ME1 twice to make sure Wrex remained alive, you don't deserve him.

It was implemented pretty well into Radiant Dawn I think. Though you're absolutely not going to 20/20 every unit in PoR naturally. I think this was just implemented to give a bonus to units you loved. Although I have seen saves uploaded to GameFAQs with everyone at 20/20.

The support imports were cool too.

Some of the PS2 era need for speed games would give a cash bonus if previous game save was detected.

Geezeranon here.

Back in the fucking OLDEN days, when Ronald fucking Reagan was president, some games allowed you to transfer all the way across games from different goddam companies. EG, Ultima 3 or Wizardry to Bards Tale.

Reddit character

Arc the Lad does this and it's pretty shitty. Fucks the balance and makes you play through the shittier earlier games.
I don't think it is a good idea for anything but a cosmetic.

get promised a gadgetron employee discount in two years during the first game

actually get the discount in the third game

images (60).jpg - 678x452, 31.51K

Huh, that's pretty cool. What did the transfers do?

import etrian odyssey 1 save to 2

dialogue changes to reflect that your guild is already famous for their exploits in etria, a bunch of events ingame get changed to fuck with you since you're coming off of etrian 1

if you owned any of the previous Megaman Battle Network games you got different features depending on what game was in the GBA slot.

Even Megaman Zero would get you some extras.

Man I wish 6 was the one to get the double team treatment

Yakuza games.
I even got bonuses from the japanese only remasters of 1&2 when I played the localized version of Yakuza 0.

Did FFVII Re:make do anything like this?

dude it blew my mind when I found out that new wild pokemon can spawn depending on what gba game was interested

Golden sun 2 kind of had something like that and it was pretty cool

Lack of rape correction.

woman moment

In Rebirth you got some materia at the start. I can't remember which and I can't begin to care. I hate Rebirth.

Metal Gear Solid gave you unique cutscenes if it spotted random Konami games on your memory card. As a kid you'd never notice, you'd just think the game was always supposed to be that way

How about pic related giving you characters based on saves of certain games you had on your memory card? We're never seeing that type of thing again.

Yeah, my childhood. I didn’t realize any game other than Going Commando & Up Your Arsenal did save-checking.

Tony Hawk Underground 2 did it too

copied_file.jpg - 1280x720, 167.76K

What mango?

Wrex deserves to die after chimping out and trying to destroy the entire galaxy just so he could have a child.

Isn't that the only Ratchet game from the PS2 era that _didn't_ do this?

Ratchet 2 gives you shit-tier Gadgetron weapons for a Ratchet 1 save

Ratchet 3 gives you god-tier Megacorp weapons for a Ratchet 2 save, and a Gadgetron discount for a Ratchet 1 save

Ratchet 4 gives you fuck all?

It's been a long while, but I think that's right.

This would be better if it didn't tell you it specifically needed a R&C1 save

dungeon meshi, made by some jap woman who's really into dnd and western rpg's. i think she made portraits for all the characters in baldur's gate 1 and 2

tfw always go full paragon and pacifist when able

tfw saved him the first time without even realizing he could die

tfw talking Saren into blowing his brains out

Seriously, fucking amazing game for choices. Only game that I ever felt more spoiled for choice was Alpha Protocol, to which pretty much nothing compares, even giving you more or less an entire new campaign if you play on NG+ (Veteran). Heck ending best ending.

Ah, darn, I've enjoyed the anime, but I was hoping it was actually a sex doujin.

game has special conditions and objectives which, if fulfilled, allows you to change to a special class

special class carries over into multiple sequels only available by save transfer, where it has exclusive quests, items, and abilities

Xenosaga 2 and 3. Forgot what 2's was but you get Shion's Saga 1 Vector uniform in 3.

sorry bro, gotta read the manga if you want more lion

The PS1 era Armored Core trilogy just snowballed your save file through all 3 games. So if you played AC1 and got all the secret hidden weapons and parts you could use them immediately upon loading up Project Phantasma, then bring all your Project Phantasma data and parts into Master of Arena and fuck shit up. That more than anything blew my mind when I had a PS1 as a kid. I genuinely just thought that would be normal in the future.

Genocide is wrong chud

Eh, maybe, but if it's actual canon you'll never convince me there's any actual hankypanky happening.

My brother had moments like this, and now he is a bottom surgery victim. Woman moment, confirmed.

I liked how sword and shield gave you meme versions of the starters from lets go pikachu/eevee if you had save data from those games

He's talking about the crossover Jak skin in 4, and the Ratchet skin in Jak X
The JP versions also had a Pipo Monkey skin from Ape Escape

This was one of my favorite things to see in games when I was a kid. Nowadays it’s rare and usually just some lame healing item as a bonus instead of unique rewards. One of my favorite uses of it was with Halo Waypoint where you could unlock unique armors in Halo Reach for getting specific achievements across Halo 3, ODST, and Reach. Then there’s Stop n Swop in the XBLA version of Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie where you can find eggs in the first game to then hatch them in the second game. That was even continued further in Nuts & Bolts where you can hatch the eggs for rare vehicle parts

In a way, I like that it's so rare. It's such an easy thing to do, check for a save and cough up a weapon or a shirt or whatever, but the only devs that do it are the ones making games with heart and soul in them.

man these pajeet bots are getting sloppy each passing day

I remember the 2nd Lego Star Wars game had a check for a save game from the 1st, and if it was there it gave you some characters to start. One of which was a Sith which basically broke the game and made it too easy since you weren't supposed to have their abilities until much much later.

game reads your previous games save file

SAVE BONUS: 100g AND (1) POTION
