Does it focus combat instead?

You can focus combat and still beat the game with minimal crafting involved if you want.

There are 4 combat classes, 5 action oriented classes (not sure what to call them but like woodcutting, fishing, mining, farming) and then 6 classes that involve crafting/creating (cooking, artist, blacksmith, etc)
All of these classes feed into each other similar to something like Runescape
There is a good amount of combat but the game is really based around grinding all of these classes to then make your other classes better. This is only a portion of the game though, there's a bunch of other systems and the game is quite large once you have everything unlocked.
What makes it not really a competitor with Rune Factory is the fundamental design of the game. There are towns, and tons of NPCs but they don't have schedules or lives really. They have personalities and some have little stories but nothing as elaborate as RF. There is no romance or marriage either. There is day and night but there isn't a calendar of any kind, nothing is time sensitive. There are dungeons but Rune Factory goes way crazier with that (at least from what I've seen so far). Farming is pretty simple in Fantasy Life as well.

It's a top-dowm Zelda-like in terms of gameplay with a dash of Animal Crossing and a heaping amount of MMO gatherer and crafter mechanics. You have 12 classes that all can be geared, levelled and used together on the fly and feed in to each other's progression, Miner gets ore for Blacksmith to make armor and swords for Mercenaries, Blacksmith makes better pickaxes for Miner to get better ore, Mercenary slays stronger monsters for drops used to make better gear for other jobs and it's own.

Heroic works pretty well. I used it to play Nioh a while back. Yea setting stuff up in Lutris or Bottles is annoying but pretty straight forward /most/ of the time once you have an understanding of Wine. I'm using proton-ge for this and its running flawlessly so far.

this game is loaded with gameplay systems. A real capital V Vidya game. Everything links in with everything else and it's all very involved.

My only real criticism is that several professions play identically to eachother. Woodcutting is just mining but with different aesthetics and rewards, smithing and tailoring are the same, etc.

Looks fun but I'll wait for it to go on sale in a couple months and get it for $30
