Makalov's only crime as a unit is starting with swords, forcing you to choose between axes for overall power or bows for anti-flier. I never liked him as a character, and so, never used him for the longest time, but then I watched someone else use him and have him turn out really fucking good, so I was like, wait, Makalov good? Looked up his averages and saw that he is, in fact, quite good and gave him a shot. It's also nice that he supports Haar if you use him too.

I don't get why so many of you seem to have hang-ups about sitting a unit for a chapter or two. It's like you think that once they aren't deployed, they can never be deployed again. He shows up before chapter 17, which is literally tailor-made to get units up to promotion or close. Chapter 16 before it also has a lot of free, easy exp.

There's a difference between leaving a unit out for a map
And leaving a unit who is recruited underlevelled out for the map immediately after his recruitment

It basically lowers his relative strenght, since he ends up fighting even stronger opponents with underwhelming base stats unless you want to use him in a map where he sucks dick to use. It's like how Bors gets fucked by being forced to fight axes and high strenght soldiers early on, making it hard for him to ever get exp and catch up despite his stats being theoretically good.

If he gets a level up in arena you have to spare him

Sometimes they randomly attack, most of the time they do not.

The two siege tome enemies don't move, so make sure you're actually in their range (count 10 tiles away from them).

I'm done with invasion 1 of my conquest lunatic ironman ; no casualties but I did have to expand 2 freeze staff usage in order to split the trio of mercenaries. I've spent basically all my gold on tonics, a master seal and a nosferatu tome for ch10. I plan on having a boosted nyx hold the right side of the map vs archers and a promoted strategist elise hold the left side (both with some help) while the rest of army pushes towards the middle. Mozu will reclass to archer during the map after she hits 10 (for underdog) to deal with the pegasi.

In my last playthrough, I kept trying to bait out enemy sleep/berserk users with Clarine, who had almost capped resistance. Sometimes they just wouldn't fire at her, even if she was the only unit in range. I'm guess it's just because they didn't have a high enough hit chance, because they'd shoot at anyone else, just not her.
