The core problem with FNV is that the neutral faction is ridiculously competant to a borderline setting-mocking degree; an entire unnuked city filled with a pristine robot manufactory ready to push out endless war machines that perfectly serve only you. Also it still has the missile defense system if anyone gets any ideas. Compared to that everything else in fallout might as well not exist except the GECKs you are going to collect in order to immediately have a straight up future-tech utopia that is immune to every threat in the setting.

Still worse on that front then skyrim and I'd argue fallout NV.

I unironically prefer FO4's perk system to 3 and NV though I consider those to be better games overall. There's a lot of cool ways to build your character in FO4 like having a Charisma build that can command creatures. I don't think FO4 is that bad, it's fun to replay here and there.

Considering Bethesda's obsession with Brotherhood, the lack of proper ending slides and the cut BoS quests (Danse becomes the new elder), the original plot probably was just yet another "BoS vs Big Bad of the Week" and they decided to turn the minutemen and the railroad into "main factions" after they were done with the main questline.
Either that or Todd really hated settlement building because the "settlement building faction" is essentially a handful of side quests and radiant content (and one of the NPCs even tells you to ignore it and go straight to Diamond City).

The writing in the Outer Worlds was so fucking bad. Modern Marvel zane personified. I started skipping all of it.

What confuses me the most is how fucking easy it was to make some of the most compelling faction dynamics if you just twist and change some screws here and there.
Make the minutemen actually take back Quincy, let them actually fucking expand their territory and hold on onto the territories you give them and make them stronger the more territory you get.
Make railrood into a proper guerilla fighters against the institute, not robot fuckers who do legit fuck all.
Make institute actually have a fucking goal and don't do mental gymnastics around it. They've been isolated from the outside for centuries, their ways of thought are much different from ours so it makes sense that their society might have a few screws loose even if they're trying to betterment the outside world in their wicked ways.
The brotherhood were somewhat fine but they could use some better story telling within the faction.

These are some of the easiest fixes that I could've done as an amateur writer. I am not perfect even far from it, I still quite bad at writing certain story beats but at least know the fucking purpose of the storyline and where the flaws are.

Fallout 4 is mid but playable. What's really insufferable is people claiming its some lost hidden gem because they applied 100 bug fix, gun, and big tit mods to it. Same thing with New Vegas, though, mid game overhyped by people who never played it unmodded.

FO4 is trash. Love Oblivion, love Skyrim, love FO3, love Morrowind, but FO4 is trash. It's the first Bethesda game I played which I couldn't care enough about to finish. I even prefer Fallout 76 to Fallout 4.
