Depends on what you play and what ranks you're aiming for. If you play a deck with a lot of interaction like Branded, you're in for an interesting game. If you play meta slop decks, you're in for the coin flip simulator. There's fun to be had for everyone

Mimighoul is actually pretty good. It meshes well with all sorts of slop, also it does play well with level 1 strategies that don't need to use their normal summon since Giant Mimighoul is generic.

Really good for the archetype, but unfortunately it's still held back by how overall outdated and weak to handtraps Dragonmaids is as a whole, unlike P.U.N.K. and Orcust who got some huge consistency boosts and higher resilience to handtraps. Lady's turns Chamber, Parlor and Kitchen (and by extension Sangen Kaimen) into one-card combos and she also gives you a free fusion summon using materials from banishment, while Stern protects your Dragon Fusion monsters, not only Dragonmaids, from destruction and can special summon any Dragonmaid from GY or banishment. It also helps that Philia Regis was released shortly after the maid support was released, and she synergizes a lot with Lady's and the main deck Light and Darkness dragons.

The deck is in dire need of a searcher Field Spell, Downtime is bad.

Low ranks are filled with random ass decks with no synergy. You can make a pet deck and get to plat no problem but you do need a full set of all the mandatory handtraps. That's the kicker cause if you get unlucky pulling the cards you need for your pet deck, you won't have enough UR for your Ash, Called by, Maxx C, and Crossout.

There's no inbetween anymore. Gold used to be the perfect spot to play with non-tryhards but even that place is infested with shitty meta decks that take 10 minutes to setup.

I just finished my Master 1 grind from gold and my general experience was its meta decks from top to bottom, the further I climbed up the less I saw of the weird side decks and the more every single match was:

Some Exodia stall/floodgate shit

In terms of other decks I did run into a few but it was extremely rare. Of which it was just shit like Branded, Labrynth, Tenpai, Mathmech, but they fall off pretty hard as soon as you leave Plat.

Tenpai now either just stalls games or lucksacks Chudra and Kaimen in their opening hand. It's a dumb deck that doesn't really deserve the light of day again. It had it's fun much like Tear in non MD formats.

I was thinking that fittingly enough, the best opening hand I can get is

DMG, Berry, Lemon, Apple, Chocolate

This achieves a turn 3 win on going first with this sequence:

Turn 1: Chocolate is normal summoned, her effect is activated, Apple is discarded from hand, end turn

Turn 2: opponent attacks Chocolate, the attack is redirected to Apple in the GY, the attack is redirected to Lemon on hand, the attack is redirected to DMG on hand, the monster is destroyed and opponent takes a little less than -2000 LP

currently Lemon, Apple, Chocolate and DMG are all on the field

Turn 3: Berry is normal summoned, her effect is activated to search Kiwi, Kiwi is activated from hand, the attack boost is given to everyone and prevents card effects from destroying any of the MGs, total ATK is well above 6000 so the opponent loses in the battle phase even if an additional monster comes out to soak one hit

That's cool and all but i wonder if it would hurt Konami to hold these shorts back longer and have a 20-ish minute long summary of the cards' storyline instead of, what, 7 minutes worth of nothingburgers?

Punk + Kashtira got me through the rest.

Not at all an optimal build, 42 cards because main decking backrow removal is mandantory in BO1.
I am also not convinced Fiendsmith in punk is worth it over just running more handtraps. Especially in a world where everyone is expecting it.

next turn she does more bullshit solitaire, and eventually wins unless I got out exactly what I needed or didn't lose LP advantage somehow

Relative to Legacy of the Duelist as a whole they're a decent rogue strategy and relative to pure Aroma in LOTD? They're insanely good. The card quality difference is just insane. Like compare Light Stage to the Aroma field spell, it's night and day. Trickstar has Lycoris/Candina while Aroma has worse Marshmallon.

Weirdly Konami seems to like having really hard matchups in their singleplayer stuff. That's not even the only lopsided match in LOTD and I remember a bunch of the solo mode challenges in Master Duel have similar stuff. Like that hilariously bad Ra deck they put up against Red-Eyes burn.

In 2018 you abused the insane advantage loop they had with shit like Light Stage to make a bunch of generic link monsters. And then in about 20% of games you scam an easy win from the Droll+Reincarnation bullshit to banish your opponent's entire hand. Look at the extra deck for this 2018 deck profile. You might call it linkslop and you'd be right but it was VRAINs man every deck was either Firewall FTKs or linkslop turbo.

Mirrorjade+Quem is still a pretty strong combination, the deck still has a crazy grind game, and the thing about Branded is that a skilled pilot can run circles around your average Master Duel player. Being able to activate Mirrorjade 3 times a turn to non-target banish your opponent's best stuff is good but being able to go second, simplify a gamestate, and out-advantage modern decks is difficult but very possible for Branded. Also I think that Branded has a decent matchup into most meta decks. Blue-Eyes, Snake-Eyes, Yubel, Fiendsmith, etc are all either vulnerable to Bystials, have great Mirrorjade targets, are vulnerable to Droplet/Superpoly, or all 3. Also, Khaos Starscourge is a nice ED utility monster to have.

One of the interesting things about Ash Blossom is that on release it wasn't considered very good. It was almost like how it is today where the top decks didn't give a shit if you ashed them but rogue decks would instantly fold to one. But Honest is genuinely really nice for Trickstar since the deck has trouble outing large enough monsters. Like the card was so integral to some matchups that Konami just gave them a searchable Honest in Corobane.
