What's the ideal number of niggers in a row in the X Niggers in a Row genre? E33 shows that 3 is way too few.

Its 5

4 is the obvious choice. There must be periods where the party splits or you have to fight with just the main character to make you realize how important they are to the team.

I like 4
E33 is just a bad rpg in general, made shiny for normies.
Whatever the number, you need twice the number of characters, at least, to be potential party members. EE3 failed that as well.

Either 4 or 5 are kino.

Thief
Mage
Cleric
Warrior
Hunter
Crafter
So 6

The general guideline is half the total party count rounded down if there are 6 or more party members. So if 6 or 7 then 3, if 8 or 9 then 4, etc. It gets a bit trickier if there are less than that though, but generally the more dungeon crawler feeling the game is the more it should be around 4 or 5.

these games are pretty boring because theres no skill involved. you just mash X to attack and you win every fight including bosses. it makes fights into very boring cutscenes rather than something to engage in.

No love for the Monk?

5 - 6 is good. Even better if exp's shared and you can swap party members in during combat.

Maybe a stupid question but can anyone tell me what romhack is pictured in the OP here?
I wanna play FF4 on SNES but I can't find any retranslations of it that are good.

4-5 is the sweetspot. 6+ gives the player too many options and actions per turn in a standard battle system. 3 or less is usually too starved on turn economy.

Likely FF4 Ultima.

all these fags saying 5

I haven't played a single JRPG that even had 5 active party members, let alone a good one. Anyways it is 3.

Just hit the player with like 20 enemies like in wizardry lmao.

5 is ideal, six for fun, 7 nigga what are you doing with 3 mages that just nuked the shit out of everything

3-4
real men only need 1 thoever

5 is way too many niggas in a row, 3 doesn't allow for enough flexibility/diversity of tactics, 4 is the sweet spot.

Thief covers martial arts

I think 5 niggas is good for a finale after having 4 for most of the game. Like last dungeon + final boss, an extra nigga in the row adds hype.

five.
Relm, Krile, Porom, kid Rydia, and Eiko

4 white mages. It just works.

Overheal your enemy? Like my isekai animes?

I hate the idea of benching people but I guess it'd be a balancing nightmare to have like 10 people out there

you can try SRPGs.

I prefer fighters

never played FF4 or etrian games?
anyways 3 is way too low.

5 niggas spread across two rows is ideal but 4 or 6+ is fine too. 3 niggas in a row never feels good or satisfying.

four fighters gets annoying because they all start fighting over gear.
four monks is the way to go.

3 with 2 reserves you can switch in at any time

let me guess, you complain about having to grind because your mash attack strategy fails at low level?

based suikoden fan

4 niggas in a row
1 healer, to spam healing and buffs
1 melee DPS, reliable damage, can tank
1 magic DPS, to exploit weakness
1 whatever the fuck the MC is, you can't remove him, preferably a paladin so he can multitask.

Variable like final fantasy is best

What's the ideal number of niggers in a row in the X

9

3 or 4 is fine, but ideally with extra party members jumping into battle to help like mini-summons. I can't fucking stand when party members who are not in battle just don't exist, even if they are standing there right when the cutscene before the battle ends.

That's a pack of them.

Chrono Trigger used 3 niggas as well.

Is there a X niggas in a row but you can only have one nigga in row?

I hate friendship and camaraderie on games... I'm a lone wolf IRL or a social recluse according to society.

gameplay is by far the worst part of chrono trigger.

Pokemon is 1 nigga in a row that you can switch for other nigga in your party.

Edge being in the final party was based as hell. Wouldn't have happened if it was just four niggas.

you just mash X to attack and you win every fight including bosses

you never played RPG have you? That sounds more like AAA action slop like GoW

why did he do it bros

A gang, is more like it.

Anon Babbleing CJ in wizard robes

If that was the case, shit like matador from SMT3 or ouroboros from SMT SJ won't make people shit and piss themselves.

4 or 5 are fine, 3 definitely isn't enough

E33 is just a bad rpg in general, made shiny for normies.

post achievements and playtime

romancing saga 2

8 is a pretty good number actually.

3 is massively too few. The only reason to limit a party to 3 is because "that's how games always did it". It's completely outdated trash that allows for little strategy at all, since a single party member being KOed or disabled is an absolutely massive loss that you'll have to deal with ASAP in order to not be put into a downward spiral if the enemy is actually threatening.

With 8 party members or more, you can have multiple rows, reserve members who can be swapped in and out and generally tons of shit to play around with and take advantage of that makes things much more dynamic.

I agree that 6 is way too many if you're limited to a single 'row', but when positioning is actually taken into account and actions are constrained through this, then you can have a pretty large party.

I recall someone mathing out an argument for 1 blackbelt/3 corpses being objectively superior to 4, but don't remember it very well.

There should be. It would functionally be like having multiple party members, except your one guy just has multiple turns or ATB bars that charge with different functionality, while all of them share an HP bar. Could be an amusing gimmick for one game.

Just like a D&D party.

4 is ideal

3 and 5 are good but might need minor tweaks

2 and 6 need drastic alterations to running the game, but can work

1 and 7+, wtf are you doing

4 minimum, 6 maximum. 3 always feels limiting and more than 6 is always too gimmicky.

For me, it's old-school blobbers with teams of 6 niggas.

The best games in the genre mostly ten to be 3 niggers, but occasionally 4.

Kinda weird that Pokemon isn't represented in the 1 nigga lineup considering it's the most popular 1 nigga in a row game in the world.

6 niggas
2 rows

5 is the kino number
the leader in the middle flanked by two allies on each side

so that the one monk soaks up all the exp and hits retardedly hard because of exponential damage?
I can see it. early game would be hell though.

AND THIS IS TO GO...EVEN FURTHER...BEYOND!!!!!!!

12 NIGGAS IN A ROW?!

did you look at the OP image

4-5 groups with five characters max in each group and the actions each group can perform on their turn is kinda RNG but kinda isn't.

5 is pushing it.
6 or more, you should consider real-time combat as turn-based will take way too long

You should also put the game on Steam then inexplicably remove it

fighter, cleric, thief, mage. that is the party.

One hero. No rows.

Timebreak chronicles and siralim are both six and that works pretty good.
