they (usually rightly) assume that only the biggest fans will bother getting the game, so they can't spend a ton on developing it. of course that's a self fulfilling prophecy, since they can rarely make a game that's good enough to attract anyone but the biggest fans of the series, but since those fans desperately want more from the series no matter its quality, even if it's retreading the exact same story for the 50th time but told worse than the anime and manga, they'll still buy it

The game has a ton of potential but it needed more time in the oven, a bit more budget for a better story mode and better visual effects and a beta test to iron out the issues.
The game sold decently. 6k+ concurrent players on steam puts it in the upper echelon of games of its kind.
They've been taking too long with the next patch. They put out 2 or 3 quick patches in the first few weeks and then nothing since then.
The game not working at all on release was pretty bad.
I blame Shueisha for licensing nearly aall of their IPs to Bamco for games even though they objectively produce slop. Asides from a few decent teams/studios under their belt, Bandai is the Ubisoft of Japan.

This game has no potential. It was clearly made by a team with no experience in the genre that didn't bother (or have the time/budget) to do the tiniest bit of best practices research. The basic controls are completely unforgivable.

To this day it's pretty much just Spiderman2 on the PStriple-1 that was considered "good" and the majority of that praise is because it has (and still does) the best traversal in a video game.

Attack on Titan 2 Final Battle (or whatever it was called) is actually a pretty good game anon.
It's like Spiderman combined with a Dynasty Warriors game where the enemies are actually dangerous. Unironically highly recommend playing it easily the best anime related game ever made.
This game was ass in an okay way. The real thing that pissed me off is that it's the one series with a game that should have functioned like Death Stranding and would have been perfect for it.
If it had a Death Stranding budget and played like it, it would outright be a superior version of that game, you wouldn't call it a "Death Stranding" type game, you'd call it a "Made in Abyss" type game.

The combat is fine, the problem is the retard made it so engaging in the combat is extremely detrimental on a In-universe level. Could you whip out the gun and slap some fuckers into the ground? Yes. Except that will eventually cause a mini-nuke styled explosion later fucking things up.
Cosmically enough, same problem with MGSV, 1 billion different ways to kill the shit out of your enemies but you're supposed to be playing a stealth game where you avoid that.
Just the weirdest shit, MiA doesn't have that problem because killing the shit out of things that attack you and attempting to avoid others is par for the course, especially since you need to eat stuff on the way up or down.
