For smaller or medium sized dev teams it's a huge risk with potentially low reward. I recall the state invested into games at some point but they either had to be educational nature or political approved so they only ever ended up funding total trash with way too much tax payer money.

It's a valid question desu. OP points out that a lot of games have been coming from Eastern and Northern Europe recently, which is true. Immediately west of Germany there's France, which obv makes games too. You'd think the neighbor to all those countries would have an industry to speak of as well.
A lot of it is that risky ventures into entertainment are prohibitively expensive as other posts pointed out, and I feel like that isn't just a vidya problem at this point. German movies seem to have become a rarity, and the state of German TV seems particularly dire, with every channel seemingly rerunning syndicated shit from 10-15 years ago.
I suspect that back in the 90s and early 2000s, and of course before that, it wasn't as commonplace for all media to receive global releases more or less immediately, and nobody knew how to speak English, which made producing native entertainment more feasible.
Now that everything just always comes out everywhere simultaneously, and anyone that would play videogames can just play the videogame in English anyway, the market for German games or movies made by German for Germans all but dried up.

It's all a bit sad, really. Perhaps similar things are true for other European countries, as well.

Its a tactical rpg with ok gameplay and a fun story that is pretty truthful to the source material. As a day one fan of the novel series im obviously biased and pretty thrilled to see it all in video game form. So i guess even if you arent familiar with the book, the narrative and story driven, choice heavy gameplay is still pretty enjoyable.

You're correct to a certain extent but I don't think it is that dramatic. The 1896 launch was miserable and we still haven't fully recovered from it almost a year later.
A ton of meta changes are also stupid as fuck, but lately they have been rolling some of them back which is great to see. For me it never left the #1 in the fps genre however, even at its lowest point.
When it comes down to playing a match of Hunt, the pure gameplay is still unmatched. You'll play some other big name shooter and the sound design feels like a joke and so does the gunplay.
It is better nowadays, but still not as good as pre-patch. They've showed a concept for future UI improvements and those looked really fucking good. Vertical lists that show more than 5 things at once on your screen.
UI thats actually made for a PC game. I would look out for that.
