My fantasy in the mid 2000's was a Rogue Squadron 4 game that would take place in the post Endor era, covering the X Wing series of novels (both Rogue and Wraith). Where you'd carve your way back to the Core and ultimately retake Coruscant and form the New Republic.
But the game wouldn't be like the previous three, you'd have to recruit your teammates from a pool of characters, form bonds with them to improve their stats, you'd also have an upgrade system for your ship, so your X Wing (and other crafts) would be yours to customize in several ways, both in stats and cosmetics. You could walk around the home base or flagship, talk to people, work on your fighter. There would be main missions that progress the story, and tons of side missions that are optional but help build companions, grant you resources or upgrades, offer alternative options in how to complete future main missions, meet different factions, form alliances, meet weird alien species on different planets, sabotage villain bases or flagships, etc.
I still wish something like that comes to exist at some point.
