Depends, back then being able to watch movies on your console was a huge deal, hell, the Wii was able to play DVD movies but they blocked the function which was possible to access by modding.
Now, in terms of the console used for vidya, it was alright, second most powerful after the XBox and the first party titles were great even if some were a bit on the experimental side (Luigi's Mansion, Mario Sunshine and even Wind Waker to a degree). Also, it had no online play which wasn't as BIG as today but it was super odd how it was able to but they back-pedalled at the start of the gen so it can only be used for Phantasy Star, it's like it had a lot of potential but they chose not to tap into it fully.
Sadly, it still carried the weight of the 3rd party migration towards other consoles that hapened during the previous gen thanks to... a lot of reason most of which were due to Nintendo, so 3rd party support was lackluster at best but that didn't stop most of them from being memorable ( Resident Evil 4, Viewtiful Joe, Sonic Adventure 2, FFCC, Tales of Symphonia) and despite the fact that some of these eventually made it to the PS2 it was CLEAR that the PS2 was inferior in terms of specs.
It could've been the best if it had the support the PS2 had but that was Nintendo's fault in the first place.

Man, I love the Piss2 and the Gamecube, I'd kill for a sweet CRT setup with the Red Gungdam Gamecube and either a silver Y2K PS2 or a clear plastic blue one. GC for shit like Melee, Bloody Roar and Metroid and the PS2 for a fuckton of JRPGs.

Sometimes I think that 2030 is 5 years away from us and that's the year when the GC's inner clock soft-stops, I think AC keeps going further (I checked this back in 2003) but if you move your clock back in time again, it will be impossible to return to the current time afterwards.
