They didn't expect it to take off as well as it did with all the backlash against JK Rowling and due to most HP related games failing hard that had more focus outside the mainline books. Retell the story based on a TV series which will undoubtedly ruin any good favor the game made from Hogwarts Legacy due to TV series renditions always failing to hit the mark of the medium they're retelling. Hard core fans of the HP series will most likely lash out harder against the TV series and the game because HBO will change the story, the characters and whatever else to suit a more modern audience. I genuinely don't get it, this subgenre of fanfic has existed for almost 20 years by my reckoning and it has offered nothing actually interesting. Prince of Slytherin was almost interesting but everything from the second year onwards has been bogged down more and more in magical politics and dumb shit that drags the story out far beyond what is necessary (it's also now one and a half million words long and updates like twice a year while somehow also only being a third of the way through book four).

I tried writing my own to counterbalance this, but it became so outside genre norms (and honestly, way more interesting than any WBWL shlock) that I've started rewriting it into my own fantasy novel. Thus far, the only one I've found that is worth reading is the ongoing Shattered Paragon, and solely because its Harry is a hilarious little sociopath and its created some genuine intrigue.
