This game has filtered me immensely I just can't deal with the amount of spells, complexity, prebuffing, classes, hidden and obscure shit. I can't play the game. I respect people who are into it and I blame myself which is sad because id genuinely want to play this game if someone made a mod to bastardize it and remove 90 percent of mechanics turning it into Skyrim level of complexity. If I have to use a guide to get a true ending, I don't play the game. In kingmaker you had to go to a random location in game in a particular month on a particular day. Nothing in game indicates that. Ridiculous

it's definitely better then kingmaker, they ironed out a lot small stuff so engaging with the system does feel a lot better. Customizing your army feels more reactive then any choice you make in kingmaker, there's only four stats instead of ten (or 9 or w/e), they removed negative effects from choices so you never feel like you are being punished for roll playing as an evil bastard or a goodie two shoes, no more getting stuck in a 2 week wait to level up a stat.

Now the problem is all of it is in service of a bland strategy game that is fun for maybe like the first 3 battles and then is a boring slog for the last 300 battles

I was about to write that it's possible to reach the true ending without a guide but then I started mentally going over all the things you need to accomplish, and most of them can be figured out ingame but some are quite esoteric like the literal first choice being significant. If you shoot deskari with a crossbow bolt, you get +1 good boy counter and a crystal, and nothing is hinting at how significant a decision it ends up being.

So you're right, it is a bit too hidden, and they did it better in RT. But the true end in wotr is so satisfying that I do recommend you go for it at least once.
