It's awful. It's for the type of RPG fan who likes the aesthetic of RPGs and has fond memories of playing easy games like Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG, but hasn't seriously engaged with the genre in 20 years. The writing is also a lot less entertaining than those games.

I quit like 4-5 hours in when you sailed on a boat with the pirate girl.
The combat was fucking awful, for those 4-5 hours you mostly have 2 abilities per character and I think I had just unlocked the third one. Its just so repetitive.

Also Garl, the fat dude, is extremely unlikable yet the dev team clearly loved him. He got all the speaking lines while your two bland protagonists generally merely exist in conversations with short responses. They have no personality

The only thing "Chrono Trigger" about it is that its 3 niggas in a row and they fight on the map displayed. The gameplay is more akin to Paper Mario/SMRPG, but here's the thing? You barely get any skills through out the game and it becomes a monotonous chore to use these skills. You also have to basic attack everything which while it sounded good on paper, the combat becomes incredibly boring/frustrating
The characters are written horribly, the environment is nice but not enough to carry it. It honestly felt like a bunch of references and cobbled everything together to make a world.

Combat is more repetitive than SNES RPGs. Characters only have 3 skills and battles are not easy enough where you can just turn your brain off for trash mobs.

For Zale, have him realize that even though Garl constantly said he was fine, he was actually in way over his head and was constantly pushing himself. This would lead to Zale taking on a more caretaker style role for the team and cause him to be more observant instead of just listining to what he's told.

For Valere, make her realize that she was in love with Garl for real and have her be more open with her emotions for the rest of the game instead of being only stoic all the time.

The problem with combat is actually the opposite. Enemies don't respawn unless you leave a dungeon, there's save spots all over and the combat is built around mp regen so you can always heal. There's no sense of danger, you can never run out of resources while in a dungeon. As a result combat is just tedious and boring.
