Unicorn Overlord wasn't very good. Even The Hundred Line was better and it also wasn't very good. Tactical or strategy games with RPG elements are just plain bad and not worth your time if you're above 80 IQ.

You can buy a switch 2 or wait for when it releases and buy a switch 1 for cheap, that version is exactly the same as a PS5 version except for slightly longer loading screens and some frame drops in a couple of massive late game fights

Main problem is that is really easy to over level just by doing content, battle system is fine but too easy to exploit and enemy usually is just fooder, also there is no meaningful choices, paths or ending(there is one meme one but that is all).
It looks great but its getting boring after some time.

We had constant pseudo-generals for month after release, and while talking about the girls sure was part of that, there was also a ton of talk about the games mechanics, squad-building, missions and the story.
Why the fuck is ng+ such a huge factor for people here? It's an 80 hours game full with content.

point me out to a thread where people are talking about the plot or gameplay of any game on Anon Babble?
You retards spam these thread every time 1 pops up saying the same stupid shit just because you're butthurt is not on Steam and that is all there is to it. Unicorn Overlord is is a very good game and one of the best in the genre.

How many of us got hagged without even a shred of mercy?

butthurt is not on Steam

why i should be butthurt about that tho?
I played it week before release on emulator
yeah i was there, the thing is the game is not that great, quite shallow, one playthrough and its all
I am quite amazed that there are still people fawning over it
and both multiple ending, different paths and NG+ are important, here you just play it once, finish it and that is all

one playthrough and its all

I already did two playthroughs and I'm holding myself back from starting the third one right now, gotta finish some other games before this one eats all of my time again.
There are still compositions and units to toy around with.
If you don't like this much, okay, but calling it meh is just supreme faggotry. I wonder what your favorite games are.

Not hard at all. Rosalinde is the only correct choice. If you choose Eltolinde, you are dooming 2 different kingdoms to be ruled by only 1 ruler. That's basically like divorced parents each being forced to raise only one of the children. Not good.

Plus dark elves are sexier, and Rosalinde is a better unit.

I wish brown girls were like anime brown girls...

I am honestly so saddened people like you exist.

I can't imagine being so depressing of a person that you have to mention every single thing like this for the millionth time as if you're hot shit for playing things emulated before release. We're all on Anon Babble, we all know, most of us did the same thing. No one cares, and it doesn't make you any less annoying when you spout worthless non-criticisms of the game like saying "the gameplay was mediocre" with absolutely zero thought behind the statement.

You're here to be a drain on any possible discussion while hiding behind the paper thin idea that titties are bad for discussion. No, it's YOU. You are the drain on meaningful discussion here. You're spouting tired, pointless drivel for the millionth time that is barely related to the game to be a snarky asshole because you think that's what Anon Babble is. For the love of god, shut the fuck up and be depressing to speak to somewhere else.

Vanillaware games are good because they put artistic integrity over profit and that's why they don't port them to PC.
What destroyed beloved niche Japanese developers like Atlus or From Software was porting their games to PC; the money made them turn into greedy developer not unlike Ubisoft or Bethesda.

exposed thighs

What a fucking whore

NTA but I've never played this game so I lurk the threads for the cute elves.
That said I've never seen a single thread discussing the game itself so it must be mediocre or unremarkable as a game; as someone who has given a chance to several waifu games it's always the case when it comes to the game part of such games.

This game worth playing?
It’s on sale at the moment

There was gameplay discussion when it released, but since its essentially an autobattler there isnt much to say other than "combine this to steamroll"
Its not that its bad, but its easily solved

you want to have sex with the girls so the gameplay must be BAD!!

Why do people like you feel the need to do this? It's pretty annoying. If you'd been there at release, you'd have seen people discussing the gameplay, but it's a year-old single-player game and it's all been said at this point. Anyway, anons do discuss the gameplay even today (I'm one of them), but you anti-waifufags are conveniently never around when that happens. This is clearly just an elf sex thread, just let it be that.
If you want to know what the gameplay is like, there is literally a 5+ hour demo available that you can play right now.

I usually like big woman but she was TOO BIG

uou2.png - 1304x1133, 2.23M

There are plenty of single-player games that get discussion about the game part no matter how much time passes so that's not an excuse. Hell, there is an F-Zero thread right now discussing GX.

I'm not saying "waifus = bad". I'm just saying that when a game's sole selling point is the waifus then you shouldn't expect anything good from the game itself.

It's a hard game to recommend. Imagine like the early Final Fantasy games, you move a squad into another and your dudes auto-battle it out. The real difference is squad composition, formations and what each squad member does when and where on their turn. A lot of people would immediately be turned off, dismissing it as practically autochess, even though I really like the system.
It's also hard to recommend because the game is incredibly easy even on the hardest difficulty.

Why aren't VanillaWare games on PC?

See
Basically they want to keep being themselves.

It's because Unicorn Overlord is a beast of a game. You get these cynical anons who nitpick everything about it, but fuck them, it's a generational kind of game. It reached across aisle and appealed to various types, that's why you see so much wife posting and also furious debates to this day about whether it's an "autobattler" or whether the gameplay is any good. F-Zero is genuinely niche in comparison. Gameplayfag favorites and indies like Slay the Spire with strong but simple gameplay loops are, again, niche in comparison. There's nothing to talk about there other than the gameplay; it has no casual appeal.
I would compare it to Fire Emblem in its mass appeal, except it's a one-off. If you like SRPGs, it's worth playing. And its systems are quite complex and fun to play around with, even though it's fairly breakable and the difficulty is low.

Low difficulty in a strategy game

See?
I rest my case.

big ass shield for what?

I like UO, but as a strategy game, it got mogged hard by Reverse Collapse in the same month.
Strategical aspect in UO is extremely simplistic. Once you've built 2-3 super squads, you can just steamroll everything without even thinking.

Marrying an immortal elf as a human royal heir is essentially surrending your kingdom to the elves in like 40 years (which is nothing for an elf).

easy so it's bad

Unless you poo-poo every mainstream SRPG, you have no right to complain. It's for the most part an "easy" genre. The appeal in these games has always been in the creative tactical freedom, team building, and character design. You sort of have to hold yourself to standards, or the games are all very breakable, even sweatlord games like Fates Conquest.
In fact I am particularly sick of FEfags calling the game an autobattler. I've played that series obsessively, even the shitty NES games, and you have no leg to stand on.

easy so it's bad

When it comes to strategy games, absolutely. That's why modern Super Robot Wars games are garbage.
There is no need to say anything else; you play this game for the girls and if you want a proper strategy game you should look somewhere else.

There aren't too many games where you get to build your battalions like UO. The only other game I know is Symphony of War, and of course Ogre Battle (N64)

When a strategy game is too easy, it being a strategy game is pointless.

proper startegy game

How about you name a good strategy game then, in the genre? I've never got a real answer from you shitposters. You either name something unrelated like a Paradox game, or you dip out when challenged.

I love Symphony War
There's also Sengoku Rance & Eiyuu Senki

game?

I feel like the face on this is weird. Koto is kind of dropping the ball on these.

Because it's a poisoned question, no matter the game being discussed.
You're aiming to attack the person's tastes because you can't argue back that the game you're defending is actually worth playing.

I don't even understand why you're so angry. The game not being worth playing if you want a proper strategy game doesn't really matter given how it excels where it matters: by having plenty of waifus.

Symphony of War

Game is fucking trash. You can't even know how much damage you will do in a battle beforehand, unlike in FE and UO. So you're always just guessing and moving Knight McHugeDick to kill whoever looks the weakest. This is why I can't take anti-UO fags seriously. They're as much obsessed with aesthetics and superficial qualities as anyone else. If Symphony was ugly, no one would play because it's inherently not interesting tactically.

Just answer the question, retard.
You came in here baiting and shitting on a game you haven't played, and you won't name what you like - what you consider a "good" strategy game. Obviously you're insecure.
It's the same thing every single time. Just name a game.

You can't even know how much damage you will do in a battle beforehand,

this isn't a negative

Just fall into the trap

No, I don't think I won't. You having to resort to that trap proves that Unicorn Overlord doesn't have merits outside the cute girls.

le trap

Exactly like all the rest, all talk. Can't do it. I'll even do it for you. Fire Emblem is a good strategy series. Why can't you do the same?

game is solved

oh no this game I liked is now unplayable garbage

Balancefags are subhumans who "balance" the fun out of games, turning them into overly long exercises of frustration and call it the peak of the genre.

I need to play the DLC, loved the base game

I like Symphony of War but the character art looks AI-ish and uncharming

notShanks.jpg - 853x480, 148.75K

What the fuck kind of complaint is this? You want exact readouts on how much damage each of your units is going to take in an Ogre Battle-like squad game? You already have a threat rating that gives you an idea of squad power levels, and the whole point of the game is reacting to how your skirmishes turn out since squads auto attack in combat. You're looking for a very different kind of game.

If there's one thing I wish UO did, it would be dial back the precision of the damage forecast. If you're attacking something that can easily dodge your squad, like fliers, just wait until the forecast says they won't dodge if you attack now and then wipe them. It's fine in games where you can lose units permanently though.

The DLC is mid-ish. It's hard not to recommend because it actually completes the base game's armored archer tech tree, so I'd say it's required. BUT it also doesn't bring much extra to the table. The new missions are alright but they're pretty separate from the main story, and the necromancer class seems hastily shoehorned in since it's never really explained anywhere.

What the fuck kind of complaint is this?

I'll elaborate.
I'm not complaining about a lack of forecast, per se. I'm complaining about a lack of *intelligibility* in how combat outcomes are calculated. As near as I can tell: Symphony has all these stats, but there's no way for you to intelligently discern what exactly they do.
It leads to this guessing game, where you just move whoever looks the coolest to pick on whatever shitter is nearby. You do this in FE and UO to a degree, but the difference in those games, is that the combat outcomes can be predicted and calculated, in lieu of the forecast even. You can plan around a concept mathematically; you can strategize.
I saw none of this Symphony. It wears the clothing of a strategy game, without any of the substance.

I hate coomers so much.
And yes, this is ironic, considering this is a Vanillaware game.

NTA but I've never played this game so I lurk the threads for the cute elves

This is who is shitposting in these threads and posting off-topic garbage. The elf sisters were a mistake.

nobody replied to that

Yes, it's great. Great aesthetics, music and sound design, unique squad-building (games like this are rare), lots of ways to tinker with squads and compositions, a long game with a lot of content.

fantastic

No matter what direction you approach a battle area, you're always put in the same starting area for that battle. For example, approaching a battle area from the east might still stick you on the south of the battle map, across a bridge you never traversed. Nonsensical, and there's no strategy involved, as you could try to vary your approach from a different direction, but nope - here's your designated starting area.

Cheesy arbitrary, in-game mechanics such as time limits and limited item use to provide any semblance of difficulty because the game is ridiculously easy otherwise.

TOWERS TOWERS EVERYWHERE. Charging units in towers with cavalry, using cavalry in forests, kek.

Retarded boss fights where the enemy teleports fifteen times despite you destroying them, designed to do nothing than run out your battle timer so you have to memorize their teleportation patterns.

The game's a joke. It's mediocre at best, and only stands out because modern games are generally just fucking trash. It certainly isn't a strategy game, just a pretty RPG dressed up as a strategy game. They did get unit building and synergies correct, but that just lets you easily destroy the game.

Yeah, you googled that thread just now. I know because I found the same thread when I was trying to figure out what the fuck anything does (answer: no one knows to this day). You weren't interested in the question until you had to prove a point just now. Think about why that might be.
I'll just tell you: it's because the game doesn't think you should know how its combat works. It doesn't think it's important for you to have enough info in order to make a meaningful distinction between Choice A and B - just vibes it out, brah.
I contend that that makes it a bad tactics game. In all the ones I enjoy, there's some kind of method to predict a specific outcome in advance.

noooo, what will i do if my son rules for eternity! how awful!

No matter what direction you approach a battle area, you're always put in the same starting area for that battle

That's not true, there are missions where you can start from different parts of the map.
I still want to know what games you actually like.

Mein nigger, time and turn limits are a valid way to do difficulty in a strategy game. If anything UO is way too lenient with its time limits. But it's a game with the casual player in mind, after all.

this one thing is sometimes not true

Cool, I guess that invalidates my other points too. I'm not that anon you're arguing with, by the way.

turn limits are valid

When they make sense. Arbitrarily adding them to every battle isn't. If you're defending in a siege for example, the enemy should have the time limit, not you. Or if you do have a time limit, it should be a hold out time limit, not 'defeat boss in X time'.

I know because I found the same thread when I was trying to figure out what the fuck anything does (answer: no one knows to this day)

I literally just told you what everything does

the game doesn't think you should know how its combat works

That same information is in the game itself

It doesn't think it's important for you to have enough info in order to make a meaningful distinction between Choice A and B - just vibes it out, brah.

The tutorial mission explains ranged vs melee and environmental bonuses. Later on they teach you about ambush attacks. Meaningful distinctions. Would you have preferred more in depth tutorials? I thought you were smart.

The complaints about towers are dumb, do you want the maps to be just lanes for units to clash with no obstacle or terrain to affect anything? You then complain about that.
There was one boss fight that would teleport around. One.
Genuinely don't think you ever touched this game.
And what are the games you prefer?

IMG_5238.png - 911x1065, 1.11M

this. towers and assist attacks in general are the best thing about the game. it was such a refreshing update to the ogre battle formula that nearby units get involved in the battles.

Well you'd probably send a high MAG squad to beat up a squad of armored units because they probably have low MAG. Or sending a high SKL squad to beat up units with high SKL so you don't miss. I don't see how this is different than any other similar kind of game. Your original complaint about just sending your best "big guy squad" to fight and just hoping it works out doesn't take into account things like ambushes, terrain bonuses, or even stuff like squad composition, because you can field assassins that strike backrow first, crippling a "big guy squad" that keeps healers in the back. I do get what you're saying though. Stats seem to matter less than squad composition and threat level, but there are meaningful decisions to make, despite what you may think. I don't think you played the game long enough to see them.
