not that it matters because most users post from phones, and phones change IPs constantly.

and yeah, this site is getting closer to death every day, so he had to do measures to make it look more active. some boards are basically 90% AI spam now.
would be easier to just halve all the post timeouts and reduce all bump limits to a third, then we'd have a faster thread turnout, especially on mid size boards where a single thread can last weeks.

All throughout the 2010s everyone was complaining about the continually declining quality of the board and they were right but you were still able to have good threads and have them reach bump limit, threads about vidya instead of just the latest games and controversies, even during the eternal COVID summer, it was one of Anon Babble's greatest strengths and something you couldn't do anywhere else

In the last 2 years that has become genuinely impossible, for the first time in Anon Babble's history it's simply not possible to talk about anything except the most incendiary topics, threads that have been standard features of the board since its inception became nonviable even if you tried to keep them alive with constant bumping, it's maddening that Anon Babble actually died and no one really even noticed because the site is technically still up

Unless you paid good money for a VPN that wasn't already 90% rangebanned, or were somehow in the top dog to have an ISP with a dynamic IP (a rarity nowadays), the IP counter allowed you to see what the thread actually was going on. A lot of the times in shitposty threads, anons come and go in a single post. But on something like a Claude Plays Pokemon thread, I'd expect it to be around 20-30 posters engaging in a long discussion or posting OC.

Now without it, there's no real way to know whether or not there was new posters, or if you're engaging with the same anons. Not everyone is autistic enough to recognize speech patterns.

before that, the site was ultra fast and you could spend 1 hour on a mid-sized board and see a near 100% change in active threads. today threads last over a week on a mid-sized board and even Anon Babble can have multiple day threads.
