I disagree. Everyone knows City Trial is one of the best multiplayer experiences of any game ever but I don’t think anyone expects this to sell well or that it was even necessary. Nostalgia makes me interested but it has to prove it’s fun before I drop almost $100 on it.

they need to force you to verify you've played a game before you get to talk about it
You and your bros spawn into the city and have to scramble for good cars and upgrades then beat the shit out of each other to steal them
In the meantime there will be random events and people can pick up parts of super cars which they can then use if they get all 3 parts
Once time runs out it throws you into either a race or a minigame and you hope your car and build are right for it
I enjoy playing solo too, but of course multiplayer is optimal, which is why I've always wanted a sequel so I could just play online without dolphin shenanigans

It really is. Even worse, it's kirby fans. I played city trials and it was cool, but it wasn't the end all of multiplayer. None of my friends were huge internet nerds at the time (2010 so iphone terminally online degeneracy was not widespread). We played air ride every now and then but our mainstay game we kept going back to was melee. Of course we didn't know about autistic tech. We did play with none or limited items though. I played fucking zelda most of the time, not even shiek. Even with brawl sitting right there we still played melee like 80% of the time. We were shitty casuals and still felt like melee was better. Definitely played 4x as much double dash compared to air ride.

I guess Sakurai's comes a long way in making party games fun to platy on your own
but n64 smash was fun by myself too so i guess it's just air ride that is the outlier
its like smash run but in 3D and no enemies and you drive around on a vehicle and collect powerups and try to beat up 3 other rivals and steal their powerups and then at the end you race the rivals or maybe you do something else with the vehicle you have and the powerups. Yeah, basically smashrun. And an event happens while you play, also like in smash run. Yep its pretty much smash run but you drive around and there's much much less going on. Or I guess Smash run is pretty much City Trial with a lot more going on in it rather.
I hope that explanation is good enough if you didn't play smash run.
