rogulike

shitty ass map that I'm tired of seeing everywhere

no real meta progression

I thought it was fine, but the more I played the more frustrated I got at it. Way too reliant on luck. Also the art style is fucking ass.

no real meta progression

Eh? I thought you purists hated metaprogression.

What roguelikes should I play if I love FTL

Way too reliant on luck

rotating a20h winstreak wr is 24, unironically just git gud

t. won my ironclad/silent runs b2b

rogulike

it's not like Rogue THOUGH

shitty ass map that I'm tired of seeing everywhere

who asked

no real meta progression

meta progression is ass albeit, my least favorite thing about hades

Into the Breach, Slay the Spire, maybe Cobalt Core haven't played it myself but afaik there's not a game out there quite like FTL you can try the downfall mod or whatever it's called though

It's not a roguelike.

Steamworld Quest is slay the spire but with a campaign and I enjoyed it much more

>no real meta progression

kys

no real meta progression

Why is it bad? Real metaprogression is your understanding of the game. It's amazing when a game does this correctly.

rotating a20h winstreak wr is 24

Considering the amount of times it likely was tried by people who were absolutely dedicated to fully learning and solving this game, and every 4th run in rotating win streak being an auto win, it's not a good number.
I like StS, but I don't deny that it's a fucking casino.

nothing about it is roguelike

Major skill issue detected

game revolves around a deck of cards

people complain about randomness

very cool. go play the bazaar, I need more retard opponents

I love Slay the Spire threads and brainlets thinking they understand the game after 2 hours. This game is so finely tuned that after five years there still aren't any other games in the genre it birthed that can even come close. Get good

It's littleraly one of the actually few good card games. The shitty derivative works people here complain about try to emulate it. No need to hate the trendsetter, the art leaves much to be desired but that's about all. It's a good game.

backpack hero without the mechanic of item placement

no thanks

I liked knock on the coffin lid more but ultimately deckbuilders are pretty boring (and not roguelikes)

positioning definitely matters in the bazaar

Cobalt Core

Was this game made by furry porn artists

I've played quite a few card games over the years and many pre StS titles. This game still holds up and I can count on one hand the card games that live up to its shadow. People making cookie cutters to "make it" with the next big trend usually don't follow through.

it's more fun in backpack hero, in basar it's 1D

There was a 40k clone of that in the next fest, haven't played it myself and don't recall the name
There also was a 3d version but I didn't like it

Breach is a puzzle game masquerading as a tactics game. Cobalt core is way too easy even in higher difficulties and the progression is short. Replayability is next to non existent.

baby zoom zoom discover his first roguelike

IT'S NOT A ROGUELIKE IT'S NOT A ROGUELIKE IT'S NOT A ROGUELIKE

developers and all gamers are calling it a roguelike, what's up with denial

mechanic

gimmick

Dimbulb take. The game should be about item synergies, not a tetris minigame. When you make geometry a significant part of the game, then the item synergy takes a back seat to rotating blocks in your head. The gay satanist furry who created Backpack Battles doesn't understand this because he is of the type who cannot peer through externals to get at the essence of a thing.

i can't help but speak the truth

dedicated to fully learning and solving this game

the point is that people are still actively improving after dedicating 8k+ hours to it, and their results are indicating that the game just has a mind-bogglingly high skill ceiling.

turn-based

yes

dungeon exploration

nope

grid movement

nope

permadeath

yes

procgen

yes
game is not like Rogue therefore not a Roguelike

Any game with procgen/lolrandum or perma death is all it takes to be a nu-like

developers and all gamers are calling it a roguelike, what's up with denial

Because it's not a roguelike. A trve roguelike is a game that satisfies the Berlin Interpretation of roguelike.

roguebasin.com/index.php/Berlin_Interpretation

A roguelite is something that satisfies some of these criteria, namely the permadeath and randomized run-based nature. Steamoids, being idiots, have got it twisted into thinking that -lite means the game has meta progression while -like means it doesn't. You could say that one roguelite is more roguelike than another roguelite, but unless it satisfies the Berlin Interpretation, it is not roguelike in absolute.

The map is ftl

Just because a retard or a collective of retards all spout the same retarded drivel doesn't mean they are magically correct.
Rogue-like MEANS 'like Rogue', as in the original one from the 1980s. If it's not 'like Rogue', then it is definitively NOT a Rogue-like. This game and virtually all others misusing the Rogue-like lable are not 'like Rogue'.

>turn-based

yes

Wrong kind of turn-based.

>dungeon exploration

nope

Doesn't matter.

>permadeath

yes

Doesn't matter.

It's another episode of oopsie and we argue over the definition of a rogulike game in a thread about X game

I got my bingo card ready, groundhog day again.

Imagine arguing over vidya terms...

satisfies the Berlin Interpretation

You can't "satisfy" it, because it's a fucking spectrum. BI is a complete meme. The dude in this video anon linked pretty much nails what a roguelike is.

posting that cursed vid

Stay in /rlg/ the power of games compel you! Back!

Everything he says in there is correct.

Still cursed

permadeath

yes

Are there upgrades or unlocks that persist this permadeath?

cards and relics, but it's more like the game is incomplete until you've completed a few runs with each character as an onboarding tactic, it's not comparable to most other meta-progression

Just because a retard or a collective of retards all spout the same retarded drivel doesn't mean they are magically correct.

it does when we are talking about the definition of a word, you can say to your friend "I'm feeling gay today" meaning happy, but you are guaranteed to be misunderstood despite happy being a perfectly valid definition for that word
