Anyway, the opening crawl is iconic, but you don't at all need it, and can organically relay needed exposition. This is done well when Leia sends the hologram message to Obi Wan. This might be sacrilegious to the average Star Wars fan, but only because they're so accustomed to the tradition that is the title crawl. This sort of 'love it for the flaws' thing happens all the time. People will legit try to tell you Silent Hill 2 is well written and well acted because they've grown up with the material as a monolith in their brain.

The beginning narration is less exposition I feel and more setting the tone. It plays over Dante and Vergil's fight but unless you're a fag who started with 3 for some reason the audience already knows most of it. I think that scene would be drastically different if it were to just be the two of them silently fighting. Her narration adds the feeling of tragedy to the scene, reminding the audience about Vergil's fate and communicating that it's sad that they're fighting, which wouldn't really make sense for either of them to articulate on their own. It's not like you could have Dante making a random remark about how sad it is that they fight like this and that it's ironic that Vergil wins that time but is eventually gonna get enslaved. It also serves as a flash-forward since we get to see post-game Lady's demeanor.

DMC4 really did have the perfect allegory for the Christian religion. They worship Sparda, while completely missing the point of what he stood for. They use his name to justify the atrocities they commit. It would've actually have been cool to see their weird cult find it's way into other governments. It would've added so much to the lore.
