I just saw this image

I just saw this image.
I never owned a Switch so I didn't know how much storage it has.

32 GB? Only 5 games at a time???
Holy fucking grim...
How did people buy this?
And now they're shilling 256 GB on the Switch 2 like it's some huge achievement. Unreal.

32 GB RAM, not storage, idiot.

who is this schizo talking to? there was never any mention of ram lmao

Nobody tell him

IMG_9862.jpg - 500x500, 34.49K

No it's storage

This is why you can use a MicroSD for additional storage

Lol. The switch did not have anywhere near 32GB of RAM dipshit. More like 4GB

switch is a complete failure in every aspect

More like 4GB

even better, the switch was supposed to only have 2 GB RAM

capcom begged jewtendo to increase the RAM. they obliged, but still didnt put in the standard 8 gb

Yes but you could just buy a cheap SD card and that was it. Now it's 256GB and you can't even use the same cards.

How did people buy this?

buy a 1TB micro sd on the cheap, the same you would for any portable media device

Dont you mean MicroSDXP++?

Now it's 256GB and you can't even use the same cards

marketing, you probably can. It's just less opportunity

Be me

Watching nintendo direct

"The old switch had 32gb of storage and we have now have upgraded to high capacity storage for the switch 2"

Me: finally! 1tb!

"The switch 2 boasts 256gb of high capacity storage"

Seriously wtf is wrong with Nintendo

just buy a premium sd card, goy.

No, I think the system requires faster read speeds. That's why they are being very clear about the key card thing because 3rd parties are about to get even more stingy with physical games now.

And now they're shilling 256 GB on the Switch 2 like it's some huge achievement. Unreal.

considering the average shitch game is less than 10gb, 256 is huge

256gb

Wow thats big enough for GTA V and Starfield, then you're shit out of luck.

Their games are 20GB tops and as usual they view 3rd parties and their customers as second class citizens.

Most games aren’t that big on the switch

Everyone always knew that if you wanted to play digital games on the Switch you'd need a SD card. But honestly the games are so light weight that even a 64GB SD card, combined with the Switch's 32GB NAND memory, are more than enough for your needs.

its ddr4 ram idiot that means you multiply by 4, what's 8 times 4?

Starfield runs like ass on a fucking Series X. Can't even begin to imagine how bad it would run on a switch 2. GTAV is perfectly doable though

The only saving grace is you could buy physical copies of games to save digital storage space but now that they’re pivoting to game key cards there’s no escaping storage woes. Anytime your friend comes over and wants to play Mario kart you’re going to have to delete something and re-download it.

Only because Nintendo actually compress their file sizes. Cyberpunk is still 65GB. The on board storage won't last long

The games also use to come on the card, so you didn't need to download much if you bought physical. Now that's all fucked up.

it is storage
this was literally everything the switch could store on it and it sucked. had to remove games from the library because of it

its high capacity, which means it highly compresses the files.

256gb of high capacity storage is probably closer to 1 or 2tb i would think

Mario Kart is on the cartridge, the key cards seem to be only for 3rd parties for now.

Compared to modern goysoles like the PiS5 with nearly 1TB games this is frankly more games per device than the alternative.
Even on PC you would have to buy an expensive as shit 8TB drive to get anywhere close to the same games to device ratio.

third party games are mostly AA and indie devs with 1-10 gb games
AAA goyslop like trannypunk taking half a TB is not worth playing so you still have a fuckton of games per 250gb

How are they compressing FF7 remake and cyberpunk to 10-20gb? Thats actually impressive

*Only for third parties being cheap niggers.
Surprisingly, trannypunk is all in the card somehow, no big downloads.

Is this... Bait...?

More than enough for your needs

A 64GB can't even fit the entire Xenoblade franchise on it

Only 5 games at a time???

What the fuck are trying to say?

Why do you need every Xenoblade installed simultaneously?

Play the first one, finish it, uninstall, install the second one, and so on

96GB allowed me to have at least 6 games simultaneously installed at any given time so I could bounce between them, it did help that I had some "permanent games" like mario kart/smash in physical cart

Why do you need to have access to every game you own!!

lol what a cuck

Most nintendo games will be on their own cartridge and you can just buy a mSDex card like you could before, what's the issue.

The fuck is that logic? Do you seriously have every game you've ever owned/pirated installed right now? I have thousands of Steam games and have no idea how many TB I would need for these alone, let alone the many AAA games I've pirated

You thought anons were kidding when they said modern games are full of bloat?

IMG_4601.jpg - 889x1024, 185.45K

Because it suits my needs. Because 2 and 3 had season passes with content rolling out at later dates that you would return to and reinstalling is a pain

You deserve to be shot in the street.
I say that because you display traits that are detrimental to the betterment of humanity.

Willingly depart from this board and plane of existence you fucking faggot.

lmao

On switch? Yes. I don't need to switch carts.

Does the switch and switch 2 not take microSD? Don't have one but I know the n3dsXL does

Do you seriously have every game you've ever owned/pirated installed right now?

Yes, they're literally all on my PC right now.

Anon, I am a member of MENSA, this alone makes me objectively superior to you genetically, I'm the top 2% most intelligent of humanity. If this was a meritocracy you'd be the one killed.

I played the entire Xenoblade franchise and not even once did I feel like I needed all of them installed simultaneously but if you feel that it's just a matter of getting a bigger SD card. The Switch is fine.

I real Xenoblade fan would have them all in physical though?!

the funny part about this retarded discussion is that the xenoblade franchise DOES fit in 96gb

AAA goyslop like trannypunk taking half a TB

Cyberpunk apparently is running on 64GB cart.

But then how will you also have the entire fire emblem franchise installed?!

Anon I...

Switch takes microsd, switch 2 takes microsdxc

Some of the season pass isn't physical

Their attitude spoiled it. They advocated for their own death the instant they advanced to the second line.

it's jrpgs, you don't play those cycling through them at once, you binge one then move on to the next

Then it's a literal non issue? Maybe I'm missing something

Ff7 remake is going to be a streaming game like the kingdom hearts collection on switch. Mark my words

I have them all physical but I make backups so I don't have to switch carts

You think you're a positive example of a functioning society member because you advocate for the death of other posters over video games? Fucking weirdo

"I am a member of MENSA"

he doesn't know that a meritocracy will turn into full nepotism after a few seconds

lel, lmoa maybe

If you only bought Nintendo games you didn't even need to buy anything extra because it's all physical

Some people got brains, you don't.

Most nintendo games will be on their own cartridge

Not true at all anymore. This is the exact reason why Nintendo has already released pictures clarifying the difference between cartridges. Some physical cartridges have the game. Others require you to download because its just a key. If even one of you autistic fucks on Anon Babble doesnt get that normies will have no chance.

Well buddy like I said I have extremely high IQ and I also have a child with another on the way, so I am sticking around and I am also reproducing

What about you?

gamekey stuff is for cheap third party companies, anon.

Nintendo games seem to be well compressed and they don't tend to use to many GB, I know third parties are the ones that bloat the files with uncompressed shit and the like.

2 and 3's season passes are necessarily digital. The exception being episode Torna, which got a physical release

They've been doing download codes for games for awhile. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is download code only now.

256GB

Bro. I have 4TB m2 drive in my PC.

Yep, that's why the Kingdom Hearts games on Switch are cloud based. SE put too much bloat in the remasters.

But your PC storage doesn't use SD/microSD formfactor?

I don't buy download code games

I don't know anyone who didn't put a large microSD in their switch to like quintuple their storage, the default storage space barely matters. I do wish they'd add a second MicroSD slot though.

I'd be willing to go digital with Nintendo if they could prove that their library will be evergreen.

Investing in a digital library just for them to become irrelevant in a decade is simply not appealing

256gb is too little for warzone... this console is going to be a failure

hogwarts legacy on the switch is 7gb

Pretending to be retarded is unbecoming of you anon, go tell people that on Anon Babble and see what they say

7GB? Does the game run on 512^2 texture resolutions or something or is compression algorithm that good? Or both?

Anon that's just a hypothetical visualization. Switch can hold more than 5 games at a time, but it's only got 32GB of internal storage, so it all depends on WHAT games you download.

So you’re saying the switch is a weak console that can only handle proprietary Mario slop?

low as fuck textures but also it's compressed somewhat well

lots of animations are missing from the world I think

switch 2 has 256GB of RAM

holy fuark

He's saying other dev studios are lazy cunts that don't optimize games but sure, let's go with your retarded bait attempt

bingtendo is always 5 generations behind, i mean seriously didnt the fucking ps vita go up to 128gb with proprietary slop back in 2014?

How did people buy this?

they paid an additional $20 for a 512GB microSD and never thought about storage limitations again because switch games are like 5-10GB each instead of being bloated to 200GB for no reason

its called optimization, i know westoids completely forgot about that concept but damn

arnt games stored on cartridges? they need to be installed?

eeh.jpg - 225x225, 8.29K

better to get 256 GB of SSD than 1 TB of HDD

Well Switch games weren't that large in size to begin with so Nintendo could get away with having only a few on the console at a time.
I don't see the point of having more than at the absolute most 6 games in the first place but hey. Gotta appease the ADHD ridden retards some time I guess.

No fucking what this old as game is that big

Yeah but you could easily get an SD card up to 2TB with little to no issue, now with the Express requirement you either get a 256 or a 1TB card of questionable quality. Storage space will be a bigger deal for the Switch 2 than it was for the Switch.

As they should. Third parties need to relearn to fucking optimize and compress instead of vying for all of your fucking storage space so you don't play anything other than their game in reluctance to having to redownload that monstrosity again.

Devs either bloat games or are too lazy to optimize them.

You just bought physical games, retard. Did you idiots seriously buy downloads and now you're fucking complaining about the game cards not having games on them? Y'all are fucking stupid, you did that shit to yourselves.

Did you idiots seriously buy downloads

When the sales were generous, yeah. I saved my launch price purchases for physical games though.

consumers not realizing they have complete control of the economy if they would just stop being weak willed hypepigs will never not be funny to me

This, you sowed the seeds of your own misfortune have fun with the reaping

139MB

Was that an 8k image or something? Wtf

256gb is absolutely fucking nothing in 2025, better be ready to buy those expensive as fuck fast memory cards

switch 2 has 256GB of RAM?
I kneel, tendies

It's also obvious way to sell more updated Snitch 2 OLED version with higher capacity storage later on.

wow a 256GB microSD that won't be usable for Switch 2 games/features on the Switch 2. thanks pepe.

You mean the ones that only go up to 1TB if you're willing to buy from fucking Lexar?

largest vita memory card was 64 GB. It and the 32 GB cards were prone to early failure.

Oh no no no.
HAHAHAHA

something something confirmation bias. not like it mattered since most of the world wasn't directly sold the 64GB

So were the 64GB cards, I had mine fail and had to replace them.

Consolefaggotry is a whole different universe of peasantry and getting fucked in the ass constantly, you just have no idea how bad it actually is because the internet is absolutely FLOODED with shills and their drones.

i'm considering just buying a z1 extreme, a new one is 70% of the price the switch 2 is gonna be in my country

Well it doesn't really have RAM separate from the CPU, it uses a Tegra SOAC.
We could be looking at 128GB apparently?
That's actually ... insane.
Though given it's using Ampere GPU, more likely 64GB, which is also insane.

I guess they learned from the n64? kek.
Although Kaze proves that RAM is bad optimization with that shit and the n64 is capable of playing poorly rendered Gamecube games if you know what you are doing.

So you have 64GB-128GB 128-bit LPDDR5.
But only 256GB secondary storage?
That sounds like a problem to me, but I guess they're trying to avoid use of SWAPs for the RAM.

The main problem is the CPU clock rate (2.4 GHz to 3.0 GHz with the "octa-core" [8-core?] ARM Cortex-A78).
But the PS5 is only 3.5 GHz (8core).

So ... damn this is actually pretty tanky.
And for this price? How the fuck?

If this could use a non-nintendo OS, I'd might try it for just PC shit.
Surely the battery life must be AWFUL on this thing right? If it isn't, this could kill the playstation 5.

Damn, it's even shitting over the Steam Deck with computing specs. Isn't the battery shit on that?
How bad must this be on the switch 2?

I don't think this will cause too many problems though, with usb chargers everywhere nowadays it's probably not even going to be a problem when travelling. Those days are sorta over.
But if I was using this as a mobile phone and it had poor battery, I'd be annoyed.
If it's battery is somehow good though... couldn't this eat into Apple and Samsung's market if they make it a phone?

Honestly, this might be the best nintendo console on paper since the Gamecube or N64.

How bad must this be on the switch 2?

2 hours, yes that bad.

don't worry it's trash, these are official numbers mind you so the real ceiling is 2 hours

Say what you want about Nintendo, they're pretty good at compression and optimization

I never got 9 hours on my switch.

IMG_1148.gif - 211x374, 2.57M

Yeah I don't think this thing will be CPU bottlenecked. The only issue might actually be the GPU. But they clearly avoided the separate GPU (going for SOAC) and that might be smart in this GPU economy.
But that depends on how well it works. It might be the bottleneck for this machine. If not, this machine might be used for non-nintendo shit potentially. Expect scalping.

Youre telling me you just buy more memory space everytime you need space to install a game on your computer? Illogical argument.

I love it when these companies take advantage of how tech illiterate normgroids are

I have access to every game I own at all times through a gigabit internet connection.

I don't really give a shit. If it plugs into a usb adapter in the car, the kids will be fine with this thing for any size of road trip.

In the past, when I was a kid, the GBC's shit batteries were the reason why I got an SP for car trips and a backlight (which you could turn off too). Back then though, keeping that charged was an issue. Most people didn't have an adapter in their car.
Nowadays most cars from like 2007 onward have one. I don't think parents would care much anymore. I wouldn't. Just take a charge cord.

... this is assuming you can charge it with a USB cord right?
Oh no... I forgot about Nintendo's dicky USB shit cables that you need for the pro controller to work.
I hope they can support any USB-C cords or something like that. Otherwise that could be a problem.

Isn't that later Switch iterations? I have an OG Switch, and I think the battery life is worse than that.

They're withholding battery life for a revised model later.

I do think there has to be a caveat with the specs on paper.
They'll be something retarded with the motherboard too, this is Nintendo.
But I personally think this might be their most interesting machine since the n64. It might have issues because of how inept most game developers are nowadays with this shit. It's worse today than it was in 1996.
I hope their faith in Nvidia's Tegra is worthwhile. Something tells me Nvidia is using this opportunity to prove their SOACs are powerful in case Intel and AMD SOACs and GPUs screw up their GPU market somehow.

Something tells me that's what is going on here.

Man I hope the OS is good on this thing and not a miserable piece of garbage like the Switch's was... otherwise they're gonna have developers simply ignoring them again like the n64.

They wouldn't be that stupid though.
Then again, they did just take down all those emulators so maybe they are.

Since this is the most busy Switch thread, anyone have an emulator they can recommend? 7800X3D with a 5070, so looking to take my saves off my Switch 1 and play these games in a fucking framerate that doesn't blow cocks.

battery life

Read that it's 2 hours somewhere if pushed. Longer battery life if running not-so-demanding stuff.

digitalfags deserve this

It's not really much of an issue. You have workarounds like battery backs nowadays.
Then again, that is more weight in the backpack.

The issue is the small storage. I doubt the RAM will cover that shit.

256 gb in 2025

470€

lmfao are we sure its not apple that made this console

its easy to compress a game with ps2 graphics sold for 90$

You'd think embedded secondary storage would be much more than 256GB at this stage.
Not talking the SD card storage, the secondary storage probably on the motherboard with a more optimized connection.

But clearly they overcompensated with RAM to get around issues... maybe?

but what is that in Blocks?

wow look at all the game cards that have a 1kb key on them the 256kb model can hold

kek
But why the fuck couldn't they make a board with an M2 connection? What fucking year is this?
Have they never heard of them?

Besides the point, the 256GB is probably (?) on the SOAC, which is better than an M2 storage really. But that doesn't explain why they couldn't give this thing a more efficient tertiary slot.

No retard.
You fucking can't.
The Switch2 uses Flash express memory, not basic Flash.
You need Flash Express MicroSD cards.

having a bad day there eric?

The on board storage won't last long

If it is in SSD or Flash form, kek.
This SOAC doesn't have secondary storage does it?
It's only got a CPU, GPU and RAM right?
Oh no...

kek
Ah man, people are going to get so mad at this. That SSD is going to FRY.

they'll just compress them!

Actually they won't because 256 is more than enough for any singular game that's not Call of Duty. Why compress your 40GB game when it's only 1/6th of the storage. Switch's 32GBs actually demanded devs compress or die.

Boy, I sure how this system doesn't have BUS/cache issues.
That would be kinda stupid.

I hope nintendo has a good record of avoiding these issues.

link_eyeroll.png - 220x165, 21.33K

I'm calling bullshit.
Xenoblade X De was cut down to 10gigs anon.
That gives you 54gb to work with.
Xenoblade 1-3 can all be 15gb easy., assuming they aren't already.
You even have a spare 9gb for gears AND saga
Monolith can AND SHOULD do it though I completely agree.

It's nothing to do with that.
SSDs will eat their blocks if you don't have enough storage. They go bad the more you read then/write on them.

Then again, if the SOAC can't fix that problem, keeping it separate from the SOAC might be a good thing. But it's still FAR too small. It's going to get bad blocks fast.

they'd all be on one physical cart mate.
Follow the topic.

I hope devs are forced to lower storage size too. It's fucking stupid how large storage used is today. Metaphor Refantazio was like 80GB and apparently most of it was just cutscene videos. That shit is cancer.

Program your cutscenes ffs.

No machine should have that much power

Put me in the screencap

kek.gif - 203x180, 2.38M

I just realised something, if you force game sizes to be below... say 16gb, you wouldn't even utilised 64GB of RAM.

Worse, it's probably used for SWAP/Page shit too because of the limited RAM on the Switch.

zeldacdi.jpg - 226x218, 23.61K

Switch 2 has double that in RAM alone, 256GB storage though... it's baffling.
They're never gonna use the 64GB RAM without real shitty programming/leaks.

Metaphor Refantazio was like 80GB

I fucking hope not.
That's fucking atrocious.
I'd love for Nintendo to knee cap these retarded ass devs and their incompetency...but I just don't see it occurring.
The industry does just need a hard reset.

From memory, Assassins Odyssey was well above 100GB. Literally was the reason I stopped playing it - so I could get more room on my SSD so it doesn't fry so quick.
I don't understand this mentality - do they want us playing their game? Then why make it so big that I feel the urge to not install it simply because it could burn out my SSD? I'm never gonna play it at that rate.

Assassins Odyssey was well above 100GB.

fucking dreadful.
how large is shadows?

115 GB

needs 8gb of VRAM

And it still looks like shit.

lmao
gaming is so fucked.
damn.

What if I told you that devs do this to curb piracy and enforce DRM too?

I'd certainly like to see quotes from some devs, but I do believe it fully.

It's literally encouraged by insurers for "cybersecurity" reasons.
