The Switch 2 is in the 3DS' position, not the Wii U. Overpriced with not enough first party games at launch giving people little reason to upgrade. It can be expected to underperform for about 2 years until Nintendo course corrects.

Core audience will buy at launch so initial sales will be ok. Casual crowd will be priced out without a price drop. Long term sales will suffer.

I think the Yen is weak and they're generally not making more money and Nintendo wants to push out Sony in Japan. It's an aggressive move but if they're successful they could in theory sell 10 million more units which is a huge win.

People forget that when the switch 1 came out it was widely derided as the Wii U 2, that Nintendo was doubling down on stupid. Nintendo's stock crashed the day after the Switch 1 announcement. It didn't sell terribly fast at first, mostly to people like me that actually liked the Wii U. Then word of mouth got out about how great the Switch and BOTW were and sales ramped up.
