it is different, more like programmer art. you use tools like masks to manipulate the scene to exactly what you want, experiment with styles and keywords, use regional prompts to have more control, frontends like comfyui to have extremely precise control over whatever you are going for, etc. it doesn't have to be the most boring thing in the world, its fun to "draw" with ai too.
so in the end i would say its just another tool. if you only like sketching/line art but hate finishing then its interesting to try to find something that works. if you like making vectors or animations then having something to overlay on instantly is fun. a lot of ai voice acting even, is still the dev voiceacting himself, just with a custom tuned voice filter. i think people underestimate ai's use as a tool, and think its just an instant swapover replacement when it can be an enhancement to workflow. notch for example uses ai for placeholder art just to create the general idea, ai is perfect for concept art. it doesn't have to replace humans, but absolutely will replace "traditional" artists if they let themselves get left behind by the technology

Some people think it's fantastic because it can generate you a working android app in seconds, but the thing is, adding anything to that app is almost impossible with AI.

When I took Drawing 1 in college we had to do something like Master Drawing or whatever where we just copy artwork from actual artists to help form our own styles and normally we use artwork from past artists. I remember having to do a Master drawing of a Rembrandt artwork who was I think an Renaissance artist. Even the professor told us that he told other students who wanted to draw in the Anime style, I think he said that it was okay to copy and learn from that style but they have to eventually create their own style or something like that.
But A.I. I guess does the same thing, however, there should still be copyright and trademark protection on many artwork done by still living artists unless the A.I. art generator wants to be known as the Alanah Pearce of A.I. art.
