Why does this game filter Anon Babble fags?
Why does this game filter Anon Babble fags?
The map design is pretty poor, too many arbitrary dead ends to justify their copy-paste castle design. Some rooms are designed to be absolute time wasters where they're made unnecessarily long with nothing to fight in them.
The graphics can be garish, and the music compositions are generally good but let down by poor instrumentation.
The shop system is needlessly cryptic with the merchant having specific conditions for showing up, in rooms that appear to serve no purpose other than a cryptic hint in the corner. It's also implemented in a way that some shops can become persistently inaccessible as they're tied to the levelling system with heavily reduced EXP gains when defeating lower level enemies.
The secondary task of interior decorating a room in the castle of your family's sworn enemy is also dumb as fuck.
It's not that the game lacks merits, the general combat is still plenty of fun and there's a large wealth of bosses, and the magic+subsweapon system works well within the constraints of "Belmont must use a whip".
What if Alucard was also a Belmont?
It sucks
Anon Babbleermin don't play games.
Aria of Sorrow and Circle of the Moon exist.
the game is nothing special but Soshiro Hokkai went crazy on the soundtrack.
It's still better than Circle of the Moon.
I can't imagine how they came to the decision to make a metroidvania game with traditional castlevania movement was a good idea.
Everything said here is true HOWEVER, the dash is incredibly fun and satisfying. That’s the sole reason why, for me personally, HOD is my favorite of the GBA trilogy. Also I don’t get people who bring up that it’s too easy like that’s a unique flaw. ALL the igavania games are a bit too easy except for Order of Ecclesia and I guess Circle of the Moon
Circle of the Moon is only hard because the controls suck ass.
It's still better than Circle of the Moon.
If you're retarded maybe
You haven't played circle of the moon since you were a kid.
Why does this game filter Anon Babble fags?
I don't know. Never played it.
Btw, while on topic, how would you rank the games within this collection, from best to worst?
Not so much the controls in general, it's the shitty ass fucking Dash Boots specifically that ruin the entire game. There's never a reason to NOT be running after getting them 5 minutes into the game.
When I played CotM years ago I used a hex cheat on an emulator to permanently run and it was a perfectly serviceable game then. It boggles the mind why even make the fucking boots a mechanic at all to begin with.
not playing slop is a filter now
I actually really like CotM and I agree with this. I feel the same way about movement in a lot of RPGs in general, especially ones where you're just running around and overworld and battles take place on a separate screen. If I have to hold down a button to run, just make that my normal fucking speed.
The 2 Castles gimmick gets old early, and traversing the map is a pain.
That would be you
I can't imagine how they came to the decision to make a metroidvania game with traditional castlevania movement
Except you can run
and your jump carries momentum
and you can control your jump midair
and you have a slide
etc.
CotM has its share of flaws, but HoD is flat out a shit game. is just scratching the surface
Sound quality and neon colors are ass.
It's the only GBA vania I did not finish.
I didn't like having to go into a menu to change magic.
You haven't played circle of the moon since you were a kid.
I dare you to go play it for an hour.
I like the music but you dont fight the real Dracula at the end. too fucking early for a true Resurrection.
the real problem isn't using the dash boots in space when you're traversing the castle, it's the constant adjustments you need to make when fighting enemies and bosses. the walk is so worthless that you have to dash like a maniac every time back and forth against patterns.
I've beaten it multiple times even on the GBA collection
You don't even remember what it plays like
double tap just randomly doesn't work sometimes
you end up slowly walking away from a boss's attack and eating shit
Aria >>> Harmony > Circle
I enjoyed playing this game but the last dracula relic being hidden in one of the save rooms was some primo omega level bullshit , also gradius combo was very overpowered
Dracula X > Aria of Sorrow >>>>>>>>>>>>> Harmony of Dissonance >>> Circle of the Moon
I’ve never played it. I need to get through 1,2, and 3 first but after that I don’t know if I go to Rondo or not.
boring
eyeraping visuals (some mods sorta fix this)
music is incredibly well composed but sounds fucking horrible due to the GTA fartchip (mods can't fix this unfortunately)
magic system is kinda dumb, some combos are absurdly overpowered while the rest are completely pointless, naked whip alone deals more damage than most of them
you play as a gay bishonen santa claus who desperately wishes he was Alucard
goofy running animation
jumping just feels bad because you have so little momentum midair
piss easy
On the plus side dashing in both directions is pretty cool.
CotM is unplayable without patching the double tap to move above the speed of a snail taking a shit mechanic, has awful map design and the card system, while novel, suffers from the same issue where most combos suck ass.
NTA but
except you can run
yea and you need to double tap EVERY SINGLE TIME
I’m this anon: and my personal ranking is
Aria of Sorrow
Yeah, I know I said HoD is my favorite to PLAY but Aria is just flat better in every other way except for movement. There’s a reason why this game’s magic system got expanded in a sequel while every other igavania magic systems are all one-offs
Harmony of Dissonance
Again, I’m very well with the flaws people levy this game and I agree with most of them but I find the actual act of playing as Juste Belmont and zipping around the castle with his overpowered spells and shit so fun I’m willing to overlook all of them.
Circle of the Moon
Still really fun, I played this game to death as kid but the controls really hold it back. Also I first played it on the ORIGINAL GBA screen too and yeah, the colors were too fucking dark to see shit but that’s not really an issue for most people anymore.
Dracula X
This is a bonus game in the collection so I’m including this in the ranking and this game sucks. There’s a thin line between a game being hard and being bullshit in this one crosses the line way too much for me to like it.
Which romhack is this? I like the colors even if it makes Juste look like a vampire.
Agree completely, it's a MUCH better game with that shit removed.
Lament of Innocence is one of the best Castlevania games.
Dracula X is not even nearly as hard as 3
in every other way except for movement
ackchually you can do some pretty spiffy stuff in AOS
Terrible fucking music mostly.
Gameplay is simply “go from the far end of the map to the other repeatedly.
keeeeeeeeeek
They can't handle the phat beats
youtube.com
The music quality is ass, the visuals are too gaudy, the world swapping gimmick is tedious, and magic is laughably overpowered.
I still enjoyed it more than Circle of the Moon.
The card system being drop-based was such a fucking stupid idea. Could have been fixed rewards and been so much more satisfying.
I used the glitch to unlock all of them with zero regrets.
Always got a kick out of how they made a game to show what the Belmonts were up to between Dracula's resurrections, only to bring Dracula's castle and body parts into the story. You'd sorta expect them to bring in a different monster or vampire.
The point of the DDS system is to diversify every playthrough. If you have all the cards (which you can easily do by playing Magician mode) you'll see that a lot of the effects overlap and won't end up using the vast majority of them. That's because you're not supposed to have more a few cards normally, but you'll still have a basic kit even in the worst case scenario. The actual dumb choices were locking certain cards behind absurd condition (two are only dropped by enemies at the end of the arena).
You actually don't, there are button combos that let you do it, I think it's crouching + R or L. I didn't know that until the third time I played the game, it improved the experience tremendously.
the point is [dogshit unsatisfying game design that no future games copied]
yeah I got that thanks
You played the game like a retard and I already explained you why. How many DDS combos have you actually used by unlocking every card from the start? Like 2% of them?
Ugly, oversized sprites
I played Circle of the moon first which is a higher quality game and more difficult so this came across as poor
NTA but I think even though most of the combos go unused in Magician Mode it's still better than the base game, where if you don't farm you'll get MAYBE three other cards aside from Mercury/Salamander, none of which are guaranteed to give you any interesting options.
get good at traversal FAG
It is the worst Castlevania game ever made.
Don't be a fag, Legends is the worst by far
Some of the music is legitimately great especially when it leans into synth sounds as synth sounds as opposed to imitation strings. (i.e. second area)
Odd game though. The bosses are insanely easy but I always get lost and bored
Adventure is worse.
It's just a weaker version of SotN and SotN was already pretty fucking shit once you realize it was a product of its time
Granted, I played it in 2002 after playing Circle of the Moon but like even then, the inverted castle was kinda shit for the most part, the wolf and mist form was retarded, bat was only there really due to how fucked the navigation was due to the inverted castle
All in all, HoD has the same basic problem: the design of the game and overall gameplay is pretty bad
Definitely isn't, Adventure was a frustrating play but I at least got the fun of a challenge. Legends is pure trash and I got nothing out of playing it.
Adventure also lead to its sequel which was much better and has the best doppelganger-type fight in the series
I like how Chapel of Dissonance has a bit of Divine Bloodlines in it.
youtube.com
The bosses are insanely easy
Yeah. I don't remember Hard Mode doing much for the game's difficulty, either. Maybe HoD should've had the "25% increase in EXP required to level up" change Circle of the Moon got in the English releases.
Kino atmosphere, it's the last castlevania that feels grotesque, dark and gothic. I don't mind the later ones that lean into anime but it's not quite the same
Belmont's Revenge is fucking awesome, but I'd still take the slogfest of Legends over the molasses platforming in Adventure. At least Legends has cooler bosses.
I don't remember Hard Mode doing much for the game's difficulty
I did a Hard mode + no armor run a couple years back which made it pretty scary. You're in constant danger of being two or three-shot, especially by bosses.
I don't remember the bosses honestly, even the last one. The game was ugly as fuck for a GBC game, if you didn't know you'd think it came out on the original gameboy right after Adventure which came out nearly 10 years before Legends, the magic system was broken to the point where I blew through the game in a hour. Shit was developed by a throwaway team who made only garbage.
Magician mode is little more than a novelty, it's obvious that the game wasn't balanced around it. The DDS system is there for flavor, it makes the game more fun by giving you a slight edge in certain situations, it's not something that you really rely on (the exception would be broken combos from cards that you realistically would have a hard time stumbling into without knowledge or grinding).
BR is fine, like a 6/10, decent for a Game Boy game. It only seems amazing because how shitty the other two are.
I would do unspeakable things to get this soundtrack remade so it doesn't sound like someone playing a trumpet underwater using their anus and somehow playable in game.
It only seems amazing because how shitty the other two are.
I think even in the context of the larger series it's really good, though the GBC release does a lot to help it. The soundtrack is insane.
You juste need to not suck
I'll have to give that a try, then. Thanks for the idea.
It's not bad. Music is terrible, game is basically reverse castle but even more cryptic about what the fuck you're supposed to be doing and warps are in such shitty areas they mosewell not exist.
But it's okay besides that.
Haven't played enough of Legends to have an informed opinion on it, but Adventure is a bit more playable on the GBC, in the Konami GB Collection Vol 1. They managed to reduce some of the slowdown so Christopher feels closer to how CV1-3 moves, at least when there aren't too many enemies on screen. Can't remember if it ever slows down as much as the original version but I feel like the boss fights were all faster.
I think even in the context of the larger series it's really good
It suffers from the pointless Mega Man level select, that does nothing but flatten the difficulty. It also adds back subweapons but still keeps the fireball whip from Adventure, which further undermines the challenge. It also has the worst Dracula fight in the series. Overall it's significantly below any 2D console Castlevania, except maybe Simon's Quest if you want to be pedantic.
le game was always bad
fuck off with that shit. Castlevania got a second life becuz of SOTN.
Adventure is worse
adventure is salvaged if you play the gameboy color version with the patch that doubles movement speed
it actually becomes a fun game, believe it or not
Does it fix the broken collision detection?
it's been years since I played it so I don't remember, all I know is it played well
while searching for the hack I found pick related though lmao
Thanks, Goyim!
wew
Oy vey, more Jewish erasure. Will this oppression never end? Oy, makes one want to crack open some goyim blut, I just wish it wasn’t so fattening.
The post-SOTN GBA/DS games are all crap.
Reused sprites, bad music + bad audio quality, zero challenge, mediocre level design, bad animation, atrocious forced story segments and shounen brainrot character designs, bad graphics in general etc
If you're asking why i don't like them aka "why it filtered me" then that's why.
But that's true of SoTN too
does he not know about the occult connections to hexagrams, or is he being obtuse?
the irony of a SotN fag accusing the other games of reused sprites and low difficulty lmao
Shitty maze like castle with multiple powerup barriers for no reason. Shame too because the movement in the game is nice, but the map is dogshit.
Which one of you fuckers wrote this
Looks fun, good controls
It's boring
Le castle is le confusing !!!
It was shit on release and shit now
The game has zero fucking difficulty after the first boss
