This pisses me off because superficially this is exactly what I want.
But then they added a shitty fucking parry system so that's what the game is going to be about. It won't be about weaving around enemies and projectiles, it will be see green = press button = win.
Parry systems can be fun but id seems to have designed it in the worst way possible.

It's exploiting the game's AI. Player uses healing = enemy attacks and tries to interrupt it. It's the same in all the Fromsoft games. In this case the boss is using an attack that takes just long enough to not interrupt the healing and can also be mikiri'd which causes a lot of posture buildup.

I wasn't planning on buying a 2025 game but I guess just one won't hurt...

Lots of games are fun without wearing the name of a different series on their cover - if it's good it doesn't need an established IP to succeed.
Doom though is a case where technological limitations were massively part of the design + more could be done to enhance the RAT aspect of it.
But I do wonder: what if id had just slightly upgraded the graphics and kept the same gameplay + limitations? An IP that was cheaper and quicker to pump out titles/content for. In theory would that be doable? I guess so. They'd just need other games to keep them afloat and to help fund that.

Hate this return to form shit. Return to form is more than just a basic superficial similarity. A true return to form would involve actual level design, with resources being limited to pick ups on the map and specific enemies, and players being encouraged to handle encounters or not as they want with the arsenal provided and the resources they have gathered. It's not DE, and it's not the DE Lite version that Dark Ages has shown so far.

Disingenuous retard. 2016 was heavily criticized for the gore portals and over emphasis on arena design, and was praised for its more open and free form aspects that were much more like Doom 1-3. DE just quadrupled down on the shitty aspects of 2016, removed the good aspects, and got away with for a while because retards went, "Oh, look, that demon looks like the one from original Doom!"

You can change projectile speed in the new Doom too supposedly so the orbs might be slowed for a demo.

Most of 2016 levels is a spit in the face compared to Doom 1-3. Its a very derivative boring shooter that barely plays into the strenghts of the OGs while somehow having more boring enemies and guns. For all the shitty stuff in Eternal i appreciate it for doing something different, being an actually interesting game with some novelty instead of just "generic shooter"
