Is there any genuinely good monster collecting game alternative to pokemon?

is there any genuinely good monster collecting game alternative to pokemon?

Digimon

probably no

I love digimon but lets be real none of the games are great they're mostly average and only elevated if you really like the series

Palworld

Shin Megami Tensei I guess

monster hunter, if you're fine collecting their heads instead of just enslaving them

Dragon Quest Monsters

to much of a focus on fusing you have to constantly replace demons you like
which one is the best?

Palworld is superior to modern Pokemon

p&dz

Keitai Denjuu Telefang, used to be rebranded as a Pokemon Diamond bootleg so I had fond memories of it.

le crafting

im sorry im not playing that

Genuinely? No

This one. I also like Yo-kai Watch.
The only good Digimon game plays nothing like pokemon.

no one wants to make a good one because nintendo sues everyone that does

My favorite is Joker 2 for the DS, but I think most people prefer the GBC games out of nostalgia.
Did you hear it has a real translation now? Also, the best part of that game is the music.

As a long-running series and not a single entry? SMT fucks pokemon upside down.

The games are as old as the SNES I think and megaten is still very much active and running, so if you want to play them all you are in for one hell of a ride.

Robopon

Is it good

On a Gameboy Pocket with numerous remote controls around yeah it was the coolest. Too bad I lost my fucking cartridge like 2 months after getting it and never saw it for sale again. I don't know if that function could even be replicated in an emulator.

People really really need to try cassette beasts. It's proof that we can do better than just "Pokémon at home"

Anyone to vouch for Monster Sanctuary?

After 30 years I have come to the conclusion that a monster collector has never been fun to play. Raising sims are much better.

it's a solid game, the combat and party building is pretty good

Whats good about it?

Pokémon romhacks and fangames

See I still do like smt though it just fulfills a different roll for me

Dragon Quest Monsters 3 Joker Professional is the best one.

Yes.

It is good, but the last fights will filter you if you don't have a solid team with good synergy by then.

Namely, Zosimos second fight, that motherfucker will test your team building.

Dragon Quest Monsters (not the newest game, it sucked)

Zoom-imos

I will now not play your game, moi rai games CEO who is shilling his "game" on Anon Babble.

mh stories ofc

Try the ROM hacks. Unbound is pretty challenging.

SMT VV

is this game any good?

chara05.png - 727x1810, 210.83K

fantastic game if you actually enjoy the monster battler genre and aren't just a cock sucking pokefaggot

Mechanically and gameplay wise? no, the game is simple and boring, but it compensates by having a lot of style, I can only recommend it if you already like MH's monster designs.

nothing. Legitimately one of the gayest, blue pilled tumblr piece of shits I've ever played.
The game has level scaling too which makes it completely unsatisfying to play. Doesn't matter what strong move you learn or what new evolution you obtain everything does and receives the same amount of damage

Has anyone given a chance or heard of Mirrored Soul? Is it good?
Not at all.

Level scaling is good but yes it’s troon pilled

isn't Ark super popular?

do you even collect monsters in digimon games.
I only ever played one digimon game.

Only in some of them. Which one did you play?

Has anyone given a chance or heard of Mirrored Soul?

no

Is it good?

yes

Pokemon

Good

Bait thread.

Palworld has gained Voldemort "He Who Must Not Be Named" status among the tendies.

Sweet sweet REVENGE, huh?

if you get to smt endgames you can level up your favorite demon with you. heck even with 5 Vengeance i was able to bring along a zhu tun she with me to the end because they make it easy to do so with all the grimoires you get.

thread about monster taming games

"wtf why isn't anyone talking about my asset flip survival crafting slop??"

you are not relevant to the discussion, stupid nigger

anyone play Siralim? im not gonna buy it but tell me about it anyways

it's great but I never finished it because I get filtered by some fights

Digimon is fucking ugly

Sincere answer: The Yo-Kai Watch franchise is one of the best kept secrets of the last gen.

Packed with soul and content, but it was just allowed to die in the West because Poketards are quick to squash any potential competition to their conveyor belt 10fps slop because "it was there first" (read: it wasn't, Digimon was.)

Yo-Kai Watch 3 in particular is the best RPG on the 3DS. Like, objectively. Not having you on here. It is STUFFED with charm and things to do. 200 hours, easy. Emulate it though because it's rare as shit.

Dont know if anyone brought it up but monster sanctuary was a fun metroidvania monster collector with very simple combat that gets a lot more depth the stronger your party gets and the more items you can use for builds.

Better looking than pokemon since gen 5, anon

not using toad

bravery mode

i remember trying that demo for yokai, particularly when you had to spin the circle on the bottom screen during battle or something. I thought it was fun, but I had no money back then and I don't feel like buying a 3DS XL right now.

Based

Seething tendie

The designs are the only thing Digimon has going for it most of the time.
Why not emulate?

Love the teambuilding and monster combat, along with all the NG+ modes. I regularly start randomizer/"nuzlocke" runs just to see what kind of team I can make with limited options.
I don't enjoy the platforming, it's incredibly basic and the puzzles aren't very interesting.
Pic is my nigga, love this big worm.

This is the correct answer and it always has bin since the game boy color. Legitimately a better game

Cyber Sleuth is fine for a pokemon ripoff

I fucking hate that game.

they have the opportunity to make things fuckable and they dont

Cyber Sleuth is more of a SMT ripoff and it's absolutely not "fine", unless by fine you mean perfectly mediocre.

well mostly for the spinning the circle part. i dont think that translates well in emulation when you need a stylus. i dont own an android device to run citra either. if i was gonna spend on a tablet i might as well just get a 3ds xl and I can't spare that kind of cash right now

So are you a weird furry ignoring all the cosplay women, or is this like talking about Sonic, where it's hold right to win and too fast to see what dangers will kill you at the same time?
You could get a touchpad and a stylus. But that's like 30 bucks.

there were plenty of fun puzzles and exploration segments

no

siralim

Palworld. It has lots of good monster designs too with cute animations and you can watch them work at your base and not just rot in storage.

Wasn't there like an mmo monster catcher like called Tekiteki or something?

they have the opportunity to make things fuckable and they dont

are you fucking retarded?

file.png - 250x365, 218.18K

so the game is good?

Fair, maybe I just got tired of it after 10 or so Bravery runs.

SMT

man, so many choices and yet still pokemon reigns

and yet still pokemon reigns

Lmao

he's not wrong

Samefagging won't help you

pokeniggers will exclusively consume pokeslop. they are not interested in actual video games, only in guzzling down the only brand they recognize

do you even collect monsters in digimon games.

Most, yes, but in a lot of them "collecting" is less then focus then raising, and even the ones where it is a focus it's often not that comparable to Pokemon's format

The closest Digimon games to Pokemon would be the Digimon Story titles (Digimon Story DS, Dusk/Dawn, some JP only ones, Cyber Sleuth, Hacker's Memory, and the upcoming Time Stranger, confusingly some of these were localized as World rather then Story series games), which arguably still have more in common with SMT then Pokemon, especially CS/HM/TS, which straight up are aimed at teen/adult players, have SMT artists, an Atlus influenced general vibe, etc

Oh poor, lobotomized marsupial...

It's astounding to me just how much more the Pals look like Pokémon than Pokémon does at this point.

Where my Spectrobes niggas at

Leozar.png - 1000x971, 1.06M

wait for roco kingdom: world
open-world monster-collection game like pokemon with visuals similar to genshin and features from legends arceus
coming to pc, not a gacha, monetization is strictly for cosmetics
check here for more info
there's also dokev that looks promising, but there hasn't been any news for years

Robopon

The truth is no, because none of the other ones have character and monster designs as appealing as Pokemon. There’s a reason why it has the most porn.

If you can handle the graphics then dragon warrior monsters is probably the best

I will crash in roco kingdom like a fucking meteorite, the only reason I played PSO2 for over 1000 hours was for the cosmetic aspect of it, if they release some nice and lewd outfits and poses for lolis I will paypig like a motherfucker.

you can already remove all the clothes besides the under garments
she shows her tummy

I love digimon, but I have yet to play an actually good game. I've played "good, but..." games, but no simple actual quality.
The card game and first anime is fire though

oh and forgot, there are also cosmetics that can be bought with the free currency that you can get from regular gameplay
these cosmetics look simple, but still, there are free customization options

Keep telling yourself that fag.

Excellent game, I loved it, 10/10, up until the final boss. There is an argument to be made that all the pokemon games are too easy and they should have difficulty modes or modifiers, or at least be harder. But if its too hard, you can't beat the game unless you already know who and what you are going up against, and create the perfect minmax team to defeat that single combination of enemies. This is what the final boss fight in Monster Sanctuary is like. The entire game before that is fun, challenging, and allows you to play the game in a way that is fun to you without being mind-numbingly easy. Then the final fight makes your fun team invalid and forces you to psychoanalyze, which is dumb. If I can't beat the game with the pokemon I want to use then it's a failure of a game, might as well be a puzzle game at that point instead of a team-building collector, because you are just collecting 90% useless mons that won't help you in the final fight.

So yeah. 9/10

good

You need more than good gameplay, you need good characters, a believable world, decent music and hidden lore so schizos can theory craft for hours.
But most importantly, it needs cute girls and pokemon consistently brings 1 or more of the best anime girls into our world. It's extremely hard to beat that.

I played and liked Shin Megami Tensei IV's and Strange Journey's gameplay
Their stories are kinda retarded though. Billion times better than anything Pokemon has to offer, but still pretty stupid.
The catch is that unlike pokemon, here the levelling is balanced in a way that you have to switch your party every 5-7 levels. The upside is that demon fusion is super fun and you get to see and use a ton of demons.
The difficulty can be pretty bullshit though. As in, random mob ambushes you and kills on first turn kind of bullshit. So save often

the cthulhu mon with poison was so fun

It's not even superior to Persona, DQ, or Digimon much less pokemon, my child.

eat shit and die, pokenigger, not that i need to tell you what to do since that's all you know

Can’t believe nobody mentioned cassette beasts

No one guy did.

I'd probably enjoy it if openworldsurvivalcraftingbasebuilding type games wasn't my least favorite genre.

Sure, there's plenty out there that have satisfying game mechanics and all that. But do any of them have monsters and a fictional world as universally beloved as Pokemon? No, and that's the big problem. People looking for a replacement for Pokemon, specifically, are never going to find one that fills the hole in them with the exact same shape. So they're better off just moving on to other things entirely if they can't stand Pokemon anymore.

He said good, no digimon game has been good since the PS1 era.

Stop being a retard. You're likely a pokefag yourself.

Yes, both games are actually fun.

pokemon understands this, which is why they're starting to reuse previous generations, Like Legends Arceus. That game was rad too so I approve.

The First Yokai watch is a bit 'How do you do fellow monster collectors.' But 2 and 3 are indeed fanfuckingtastic. Absolutely an example of improving upon your concept each time.

Genuinely?
Not really.
Pretty much every notable contender stumbles in some critical way. It's a cursed genre.

Broadly.
Digimon Story is a pretty good take. Story is of highly variable quality, and it's pretty mediocre, but it IS a basically functional monster taming JRPG with few caveats Pokemon doesn't suffer from worse. Digimon World is either something you love and have an autistic fixation for, or else is weird, clunky, and bizarre. There's no in-between, but, if you like it, it may as well be the best thing on the market.
DQ Monsters Joker isn't too bad, I have no idea how the recent one is, though. It has some peculiarities, but is quite good.
SMT is PROBABLY the closest thing to a monster tamer that's just better than Pokemon, but there's some core differences to the experience that might make you argue core SMT isn't really a monster tamer series, especially with how disposable and secondary your monsters feel. Devil Summoner or Soul Hackers 1 MIIIIIGHT count if core SMT doesn't, though. Also these are pretty old games, the newer ones are much more JRPG that features monsters than monster tamer.
Pretty much any indie addition to the genre sucks dick because they try and just make Pokemon, down to including the ass juice tainting the pokemon experience because they don't know how to do it otherwise.
Genuinely, Palworld isn't toooooo bad. It's NOT a monster taming jrpg, but still scratches that itch of getting a gang of gribblies to go fuck up other animals. Flawed in its own ways besides, but, it can work.
Brigandine is solid, there was a pretty recent game that's not bad, but your monster selection is pretty limited.

This

Pic related is amazing. The first game had a lot of heart but was shit to play but the demo for the sequel is insane

hq720 (1).jpg - 686x386, 88.59K

i am angry that pokeniggers have supported the downfall of a once beloved franchise. if you support the current state of the series, you are an enemy to me and, as such, you should be violently murdered and chopped into pieces and forcefed to your fucking family (who should then also be brutally killed shortly afterwards)

i fucking hate pokeniggers so fucking much its unreal

Music is the most aesthetically cohesive since pokemon red and blue and you will have multiple songs playing in your head when you aren’t in the game, the type chart is an evolution of rock paper scissors that more closely mimics the practicality from the pokemon anime (and basic logic), shinies have gameplay merit, team composition and synergies are extremely flexible if you know what you’re doing, 2vX battle format which is better than 1, unique bosses and boss mechanics, a decent treadmill of content up to and including endgame if you like grinding, different official game modes like nuzlocked and randomizers, loads of content, and a quaint world.

People might bemoan character art or character race or writing at times, but they’re really not big deals at all even if I tried to make them out to be. And desu there are way more hot/cute/sexy characters and character art than maybe one or two gay looking ones. I feel like people saying that point didn’t even play the game and only saw the male party members and based a headcanon in the rest of the game

Eeeeeeeh.
It's not bad, but, the game really wants you to grind for your monster passives, and frankly, the game is ruined by the NPC helpers. The most important skills to develop in the game have nothing to do with you or your monsters, but learning to wrangle the fucking retards glued to your leg the entire game. Story is ass, but it's Monster Hunter standard levels of ass.
I enjoyed it, but probably wouldn't consider replaying it, or finishing post-game.

no fellow Monster Crown enjoyers

It's a bit edgy at times but a lot of fun, I really enjoyed digging into the gene editing lab and being able to make custom monsters and insert them extremely easily was fun for repeat playthroughs. I'd highly recommend it to other monster catching enjoyers

You can adjust the battle difficulty including leveling scaling if I recall

Absolutely embarrassing, definitely a Unovafag.

So they're better off just moving on to other things entirely if they can't stand Pokemon anymore

Nope there are good examples of monster catchers in this thread that aren't Pokemon. Nostalgia only carries you so far when Pokemon has been shit for years.

slice your fucking throat and die, coprophage

the game is ruined by the NPC helpers

That's MHS2 only, MHS1 is not like that. They probably made MHS2 more handholdy because of World. Yet both are good games and much better than modern Pokemon games. Good designs, decent story, actual monster battles, and cool armors and weapons. Besides, Kayna is a hottie.

Besides, Kayna is a hottie

This is true
The "nude" mod for her is breddy gud
