7 is one of the most barebones, skeletal jrpg experiences out there. The game is comically easy, never asks a single goddamn thing of the player, and can unironically be beaten by mashing the attack button for 70 hours.

Its not good though. The junction system sucks. The GF is heavily exploitable which turns every fight into a cutscene. The story makes no sense. Most of the secrets are impossible to find on your own because Square had a exclusive deal with a guidebook company. Dont get me wrong, the music and art design is solid but its just not worth investing time into when half the game is borderline broken. Anyone who says its the best FF needs to take a hard look at how awful their tastes are.

Also it is a very easy game that you can break within the first hour. Turn a bunch of tents into curaga spells than junction that to your health stat and you just killed the challenge for the first half if not three quarters of the game.

As famous as some game directors can get, it's the composers that I give the most praise to. For many kids who might wonder why "xyz game is so popular from long ago, it SUCKS!!," they should give the OST a listen-to. They might get a really blissful addition to their musical playlists. Music is a remarkably powerful justification for love of a video game.
