Are they really that bad?

yes, people want to revise the narrative now because Scarlet/Violet look like shit + run like shit and changed the formula, so now people go and say "well at least SwSh ran well and was more true to the formula!"
Both games are shit, just wait for ZA it'll probably be the only Pokemon game on the platform worth a damn.

I think SWSH are the last "good" games they'll be able to make in the traditional format. It was a perfect sendoff, the perfect final games to the series.

It's just mid. There's nothing good or bad that stands out about it, aside from being kind of boring.

Take SV's graphics and add in USUM's linearity. That's SWSH.

All pokemon games were hallways until SV.

No? Not Legends.

Not as bad as ScaVio but still bad
I fucking hated how it felt like the story was always happening somewhere else and the NPCs would be like "oh don't worry I deal with that just keep on your silly gym challenge"

Sure, but they didnt have NPCs holding your hand the whole way.

It started.

I don't really care about most of the SwSh pokemon. Usually I enjoy at least half of a pokedex

no

This nigga gets it

It's a videogame, not a movie, pretty screenshots wont make it less boring.

Worst regional gimmick

Worst towns

Worst Pokemon designs

Worst story

Worst soundtrack

3nd worst competitive format

2nd worst performance

3rd worst rival

2nd most hand-holdy

Have to constantly kneecap yourself to not be 10 levels above the NPCs

DLC lackluster and doesn't work when your whole team is lvl 100

There are a few good things in gen 8 but not enough to overcome all the shit

They are half baked. Some areas and cities are fine while others were clearly rushed to reach their release date.
The fairy city and the forest were the best looking sections to me.

first entry to be worse than gen 2, it was quite a feat

how the fuck were they the perfect sendoff to the traditional format?
Games that didn't even have every Pokemon?
that had a piss poor story and a single battle tower for postgame?
Thats your grand send off?

SwSh looks better than SV thoughbeit, not that it means much

Compare it to SV. Yes.

And? A 2/10 being better than a 1/10 doesnt mean it isnt shit.

Gameplay-wise t's an overall improvement over Sun and Moon and visually it is miles ahead of Scarlet and Violet and actually has some degree of aesthetic cohesion; and with the DLC it actually feels like a complete package, but like everything past gen 6 it is aggressively mediocre.

SWSH has ptetty nice visuals outside of the stupid tree everyone obsessed over.

Don't care what you say. They were good, and the last games in the series.

They're easily on par with S&M for the worst games in the series.

Beyond handholdy.

We have Hau 2.0, please clap.

The entire story is absolutely retarded and is like a thousand years out and can be solved in a few hours after the tournament but no, we have to do it during the tournament.

Many of the routes are literal straight lines with no deviation or you can see the entire route from where you are standing on some sort of hill.

The Wild Area weather system is extremely stupid because if you move five feet from a completely sunny lush green area it'll now be thunderous downpours or a sudden mist.

Can't see shinies in the overworld despite there being overworld spawns.

Gigantamax and tons of Pokemon were tied to events and version-specific raids.

Raids are tanky as all hell and a pain in the ass to do solo even when using someone like Eternatus, and you aren't given a 100% chance of capture which is so beyond stupid I can't even comprehend that decision.

If you want to deal with any side content, including raids, the items take quite a while to earn.

SV is an infinitely better game in every way. At launch SV was a mess but after the patches its only major issues are the weird balancing and no gym level scaling. The only other issue I can agree with that one guy mentioned a few weeks back was that because you can go into higher tier areas and find higher tier characters or even base Pokemon it robs you of having to use the worse or lower tier Pokemon for a while.

if you want an actual sendoff then it's B2W2, has all the pokemon worth a damn, has the PWT, has actual shit to do.
Using your own logic, everything after B2W2 has been a step down, so its a perfect sendoff

You're missing that anons point and I don't understand why or how. SV is the BotW of Pokemon, SwSh was the last remaining hope that they would go backwards instead of pushing forward. Pokemon COULD have gone back to its roots with SwSh still being the template/format for pokemon games, but they decided "nah, unoptimized open world is the way to go" and this is why despite BotW selling so well people miss the old traditional format the series originated and carried

SwSh had that original format, it was broken and weak but it still existed. Now with SV it doesn't, every identity that made pokemon what it was - besides the pokemon themselves - is gone. SV is so far from what pokemon was that when playing it you actually feel like the game was something else entirely made by completely different developers and then last minute GameFreak said "hey let's turn this into a pokemon game!" and forced it out as quickly as possible

Was SwSh the exact point the series went full dumb with powercreep?

What Pokemon needs its Champions, a game focused on PvP, no idea why it took this long for GF to realize it.

nta but i understand that part, yea they were the last games in that format, so they're better than SV, but they are not the "perfect" anything, Skyward Sword didn't become a great Zelda game just bc BOTW ditched the format either.

I love BW/BW2, but powercreep went all out starting with gen 5.

SV is so fucking ugly and soulless I'm apologizing to SWSH.

I would say it was XY, but it was limited by the small number of megas, Z-moves was an extremely retarded let's go banana moment, SwSh actually universalized the mega mechanic with dynamax, and terastalization is just a less flashy version of dynamax.

No it doesnt it looks like a PS2 game, and it doesnt even run at 60 FPS.

They both are that bad and aren't that bad. The game itself is mostly functional, it's not excessively buggy, nothing is infuriatingly bad or frustrating except for maybe Dynamax. But at the same time, it's just extremely boring and has absolutely no value at all as a game. It's not even bad in a fun or interesting way.

The problem with Pokemon games following such a tight formula is that it's very easy for a weak game to be outclassed and thus useless.
You have practically zero reason to play these games over Black&White, or Platinum, or HG&SS, or even X&Y.
Maybe they realized this and now they're making the games more distinct for that reason.

Yes, some of the easiest games in the series with one of, if not the worst region yet. Dynamax is the worst "gimmick" so far.

pain in the ass to do solo even when using someone like Eternatus

Its really disheartening starting a raid and knowing when you see the shit the AI brings that you have no chance of winning right off the bat.

Sword and shield are to this day; the only pokemon games that i'd genuinely consider to be straight up bad videogames.

SV also lacks any real battle facility which is something SS has in its favor.

Gen 5 weather wars was when it really kicked in, though you could make a case for Gen 4 introducing more of the choice items and pokemon like garchomp made to be specifically better than the rest.

forced xp share

THE GAME IS ALREADY ABSURDLY EASY. WHY? WHY? JUST GIVE AN OPTION TO DISABLE IT.

Linear routes with little exploration

Permanent EXP Share despite switching it off being a feature since gen 1

Dumb story

Game doesn't let you do anything cool like fight Dynamaxed mons in the story

Reused animations and "high quality" animations like pic rel

Kanto shilling with Leon and Charizard

All of this on the back of Dexit

Yes, they are that bad, and normies permantly fucked the franchise by thanking GameFreak for ahitting in their mouths. SV was just extra confirmation TPC could shoot someone and normies would still line up to buy the games.

I'm gonna say it right now, Platinum and Sinnoh in general is overrated dog shit

One of the most bland and boring region designs
Too many of the new mons are just cross gen evos and many of the ones that aren't look stupid as fuck
Painfully slow still
Horrendous story that went full "that kid at the playground" tier with its power level faggotry
A ridiculous evil team where the leader takes himself way too seriously but then the grunts are all absolute clowns
The battle frontier is way worse than Hoenns
The most overrated champion/character in the series

why do you post this in every pokemon thread

No. They're worse.

Why would I as a developer ever let people disable something that is fixing a fundamental design issue with the game? The old xp system no longer exists because it just resulted in people funneling all their xp to the starter

I just replayed gen IV after years and I'm mad at how overrated they ended up being/how not well they held up

HGSS not as much, it was still pretty good, but Platinum was very mediocre and calling it a holy trinity game is just wrong

Emerald was great though, that game held up a lot better

Its also obnoxious with how HM heavy the region is.

Because of Dexit alone? Yes.

Yep, defog is the stupidest fucking shit in the world. I actually went with a 4 man team this run cause I didn't want to deal with the bullshit and just used two HM slaves(Bibarel and Tropius)

I fucking hate rock climb the most. Its another useless ass normal move for no damn good reason while being just another boring lock on you progress through the region.

A ridiculous evil team where the leader takes himself way too seriously but then the grunts are all absolute clowns

They're a cult, following DPPT's religious themes. Cult members don't necessarily understand all their leader is preaching, that's how you get stuff like mass suicides.
You played the game in a very boring way and now you're complaining you had a miserable time. You don't need Defog at all and the VS Seeker provides enough exp to support a lot more than 6 pokemon. You restricted yourself to 4 instead, worse part is one of your members was Lopunny, a giga-shitmon.

Cult members don't necessarily understand all their leader is preaching

Problem is they don't even talk about any cause that makes sense. In Platinum Cyrus makes a speech to them where he talks about making the world complete but nobody really echoes that. They just act like a bunch of stooges and even Cyrus himself calls them incompetent. It's cool that he's a dickhead and using them for his own means but Ghetsis does that way better one gen later.

You don't need Defog at all and the VS Seeker provides enough exp to support a lot more than 6 pokemon.

You don't *need* defog but not using it just makes the experience worse. You're either gonna suffer in fog or suffer in having to use the most worthless HM in the series

, worse part is one of your members was Lopunny, a giga-shitmon.

It was actually pretty good in my opinion. Wasn't the greatest but it pulled its weight.

Yeah, at least in HGSS they left that for the very end.

I have no idea why pokemon fans demand the XP share be removed rather than just ask for the game to compensate with its difficulty. All of the best romhacks have XP share and nobody is complaining that Clover or Radical Red is too easy

This is a good looking gamecube game.

It's one of the first times that the pokemon world was remotely believable with the gym challenge, some of the music is also pretty good. The rest is pretty meh.
It paved the way for S/V being fully open world, as well as a mainline pokemon game ACTUALLY having a story for once.

On one hand, I do think earlier games had a problem with winning by exp funneling into one Pokemon, but current exp share feels really lazy as is. Maybe it's just me, but it feels as if some of the identity is lost of being a trainer when you can just leave them in their ball for multiple cities in a row and they're fully ready to handle the latest gym.

With the DLC they're pretty good. Without the DLC, they're alright.

Kill yourself spic

Best Switch Pokemon.

Yeah? Does Scarlet Violet or Arceus looks or runs better?

They're the only Pokemon games I couldn't even finish.
