Flowchart is something like this:

If the enemy is burning, use that skill that gives me 4AP on burning targets (net +2 AP)

Quickly get 4 stains and cast Mayhem or some other thing with tricky Stain requirements

Don't take it the wrong way, but I think the game is highly overrated. The maps are narrow corridors, even worse than FFX, and the lack of a minimap seems like a deliberate choice to disguise its linearity. While the story is impactful, the characters react to events in a very simplistic way. Apart from the "gothic" graphics, which may or may not appeal to everyone, the interactions feel incredibly bland and cliché.
