PS1 felt like an iteration on the SNES. If you took out the FMVs and voice acting, most games in its library could have been done in 2D form from a gameplay standpoint. Mario 64 and OoT actually moved the medium forward. That said, PS1 has way more good games.

It's not for people who never saw one in a store, let alone played one. I had a N64 and my brothers had a PS1, but fuck if I could tell you what a Saturn was back in 1998.

It genuinely bothers me a bit that people will praise the N64’s garbage library and then say the Saturn has no games.

What N64 had was innovation. Between its analog stick and 4-player capacity, the hardware genuinely pushed 3D gaming and multiplayer forward. Yes, it had a meager library, but when said library has hitters as heavy as Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye it kinda evens out considering the sheer craters those games left in their wake. The absolute best games on N64 were insanely relevant.

Saturn was great for arcade ports. That's what it was famous for at the time and why people went out and bought it, and there again, was a lot of games for it.
