The great debate...
The great debate
Mario 3
SMW
SMB2 (USA)
Impossible to chose between. I need them both.
3 is better, not a debate accept defeat.
Mario 3. Super Mario World 1 isn't even the best Super Mario World.
SMB3. No contest.
If SMW kept the original sound effects, it would be compatible, but still couldn't capture the perfection of 3
Any Super Mario Land enjoyers?
Kuribo's Shoe is the single greatest power-up in Mario. This is not debatable.
Land 2
Just play both
I didn't play Mario World as a kid and when I finished it as an adult it just felt boring. I also hate the music and the art style.
World is literally one of the most influential games ever made.
If anyone thinks of mario, they are thinking of world.
land 1 is a really weird game but I remember playing it on road trips all the time as a kid and loving it
world
not even close
I don't.
Mario World is one of the few absolutely perfect games ever made. Smb3 is great too but Mario world is a level above it
I feel like 3 is the "better" game, but if I want to pick up and play one for fun, I'd pick World. What mean
Mario World is a launch title and it really shows. It's like the ugliest looking SNES game when compared to something like Yoshi's Island. Mario 3 pushes NES to it's limits.
I had both of them on the GBA and I ended up playing Super Mario World because the graphics were better and you had yoshi which was awesome
At one point I decided to start playing SMB3 and I realised that the gameplay is just a lot more fun than SMW's
I dunno if it's just me but the lack of saves for Mario 3 triggers my autism something fierce. Once I get past World 2 I'm basically forced to commit to playing the rest of the game because shutting it off mid-World 6 or 7 just hurts that much. Using warp whistles doesn't work because then it feels like cheating even though it's built to just be a quick way to reach where you left off, yet the other worlds are left unsaved and my score doesn't match.
That's the biggest flaw of Mario 3 because the later levels are the best.
i would need to replay both back to back to give a satisfying answer but probably world. yoshi + cape adds more depth to the gameplay than all of 3's new powerups combined and the levels feel more varied in design compared to 3
I love both :(
SMB3 will always be my number 1 Mario game but World is great too
Mario world has always looked timeless to me. Better graphics wouldn't improve it in any way. The game looks great. It's colorful and has a distinct and soulful look to it. It's one of the better looking games because it's simple and doesn't doore than it needs to. It's timeless.
Mario 3 throws too much stuff at you at times that really don't have a purpose or feel fleshed out. It's still a revolutionary game but there's a lot of stuff the just crammed in for the purpose of cramming it in. For instance, the tanooki suit. Sure it's neat but it's rare and doesn't really serve a purpose. Same with the hammer Brothers suit. Either give a level or two meant for it or just remove it all together
Mario 3 is better. 3 is more difficult and unique with its varied levels and world themes, as well as having more/better music.
I also prefer the artstyle of 3 more. Yes it has less pixels and bits, but I prefer the deeper colors and vibes of 3.
mario 3 doesn't have yoshi or the feather cape
From what I’ve observed
millennials and xers: 3
zoomers: smw
I am a 98 zoomer and prefer 3. What gives?
There is a fugly quality to smw that was big in the early 90s. But yeah easily the ugliest Mario game other than land.
SMW and it's not even close. Anyone claiming SMB3 is superior is on some nuclear-grade brap fumes.
SMW is the first game i ever played and holds a special place in my heart however, SMB3 is the GOAT and it's not even close. They even made an entire film just to advertize it. That's how great it was
Mario All-Stars is worse but I guess it can be ignored. It takes the slick Mario 3 graphics and turns them to garbage.
SMW really suffers from being on probably the best console ever made and both Donkey Kong Country and Yoshi's Island do it's thing better. Meanwhile SM3 is peak NES.
SMW suffers because the SNES had a good library
that's dumb.
I think SMB3 is a better game, but I like playing SMW more.
World has better controls but 3 is a more creative game overall. Like 6 power ups, great level themes, so many unique enemies. World on the other hand is very lacking and it's Level Design isn't nearly as thought out.
World always looked so unappealing to me that I never could get into it.
IDK it felt like the same visual identity as knockoff Legos for young children.
Both are excellent, but it's SMB3 for me.
just use a warp whistle you pussy. you don't need a full loadout of a P-wings to clear the later levels do you?
Actually super underrated game.
Also introduced this beauty into the world
Yeah that's what I do. Or just use save states on an emulator.
smw cause its got a fat hack and smb3 doesnt
not enough people talk about this one, its definitely one of my favorites
They should remake this and Mario Land 2 as one big game with a Wario side game like Bowser's fury
smw cause its got a fat hack
Link?
of course my good sir catbox.moe
I can see why someone would find SMB3 more fun. That game is jam-packed with a ton of shit and seemingly every level has a new gimmick (Kind reminds me of Wonder DESU). But because of that, a lot of its ideas don't really get enough room to breath. The Goomba Shoe, for example
SMW develops it's ideas and concepts more consistently and gives the player alot of choice on what they want to do and how to do it. It also frequently rewards you for thinking outside of the box.
The interlinked overworld in SMW also makes it alot more fun to interface with than the one in SMB3 despite the fact that it has less content/interactivity.
Fat cat girl seems pretty hot. Thanks, anon!
I don't mind the stupid shit they put in SMB3. That's what makes it charming. Like an out of control giant land.
While discussing these two games, am I the only one that felt greatly disappointed by Wonder's overall lack of secrets? There were a few things to discover, but it just felt so lacking overall. Almost feel the last 2D Mario game that felt it had real surprises to unpack was the first New Super Mario Bros., and even that wasn't on the level of SMB3 or SMW. Part of the reason those games are hard to forget are all the secrets and genuinely interesting methods to discover them. Even easy things to discover like the boat in World 3 of SMB3 stick out.
3 has some truly arcane shit in it like the secret toad houses or the coin ships. they need more of that, but instead they've gone for the "every retard should see everything the game has to offer right away" genre of game design. although i guess World is to blame for that since the save system inherently discourages replaying the worlds.
mario all stars, and the kirby version too
I really wasn't a fan of exploring the World Map in Wonder, it was sluggish and slow to traverse. Clearly effort was put into it, but the experience itself is a drag.
Both were good games, but SMB3 was a better MARIO game, if that makes sense.
Galaxy 2
I think 3 has better physics, I can't prove it but SMW feels off by a small margin.
