You need to leave.
SHIT STUPID AS HELL MANG
You're trying way too hard to fit in, newfaggot
Shalom.
meant for
there are no such things as cancers on the industry since people play what they enjoy, and enjoyment is the point of games.

Glad to see your HRT journey is coming along, sista!
I hate the fact so many games are just real life modern time BS. GTA 6 is doing this and it's a tragedy. Real life is boring as fuck. Give me cyberpunk, give me sci-fi, give me fantasy. Anything but real life and modern day
Don't you have a new Madden to play
Inscryption and Balatro are fun and nobody has ever forced me to play any other deckbuilder
It's fucking annoying that Balatro popped off when it did. All of these deckbuilders that tried to follow in Slay the Spire's footsteps were on the cusp of dying but Balatro just had to come along. Now we'll get an extra five years of this slop.
Blow hasnt made a single good game so why would I care
Imagine working on a block pushing game for like 15 years and then steam has a block pushing games sale and yours still isn't out yet.
no, soulslikes are
miyazaki
makes demons souls
its fun
but it's held hostage by sony
remake demons souls for multiplatform
its successful
remake demons souls
remake demons souls
remake demons souls
remake demons souls
4 more times
take demons souls but copy paste it 50 times and call it elden ring
then everyone starts making that shit, its all just R1 and dodge roll spam
So much seething. I kinda feel sorry that he was born a human. Clearly he's a misplaced AI.
JBlow more like BlowJ
lmaooo
indeed. i now avoid souls-likes and rouge-likes. instant turn off.
This the bitch who made a whole game out of line puzzles?
like most people who consider themselves artiste, he's just mad someone made a card game with no effort that became more acclaimed and successful than his love project
"give me fantasy"
play recent fantasy game
in game demographics look like modern day San Francisco
black elves, asian elves, mystery meat elves
everyone speaks as if they are from the Bay area
story is not so subtle modern day politics
Games can immerse you in different worlds, the distant past, strange alternate realities, or helming powerful spacecraft in the far future...
... so lets make a game where you walk around a public park solving moblile games on an iPad
I hate deckbuilders but no, it's fine they exist. John Blowjob should fuck off already
He is kinda right, but here's my actual take.
Any cRPG that "simulates RPG rules" such as Baldur's Gate etc. are shit.
The VERY REASON those rules exist is to simulate the combat, spells etc. in a tabletop scenario because obviously it's very hard to act like you are casting the fireball around your fat ass nerd friends or beating a group of goblins to death. Not to mention issues like who goes first etc.
Video game worlds remove that limit. You can have real-time action with spells, combat etc. and this is what any game that is inspired by tabletop should aim for because having to actually roll the fucking dice in the game is the most stupid shitty retarded mechanic in vidya, most perfectly illustrated in BG3 where you can just fucking spam save and load and get 20 crit every time.
Why does he hate cards so much?
About to say, it feels like half of this thread are complete newfags who just forgot that, regardless of whether or not you believe in him, blow is saying this because he's a massive hipster fag who hates how video games don't try harder to be "le art"
and that's why Braid sucks. You can make a beautiful fantasy world but lets make it 2D so you can't explore the depth
correct but he's seething about blue prince mogging him and he has no right to complain about deckbuilders when he spent 10 years on a FUCKING SOKOBAN
Open source the language that you've been working on since 2015, Jon.
What is that dude even on about? He literally makes games about line-drawing on a board and about pushing blocks on a board.
She's right
The kind of retard that wants to remake chess into 3D beat-em up.
John Blow is wrong about pretty much everything, which is nice actually. It's as dependable as if he was always right, you can always find the truth based on his take.
"JRPGs are the killer of innovation", JRPG has some of the most innovative mechanics in the RPG scene, thank you john Blow for being so actually wrong all the time
is this post about jews?
Oh look the witness man said a stupid thing again.
Let him cry about Braid remaster's sales again.
this is the most based thing he's ever said
fuck indie roguelite deck builders
He's a type 4/5 apple guy. If you show him a card it's just a card.
He's also bad at making decisions. Which is what card games test.
youtube.com
the envy is palpable
Man, those late 2000s indie devs, what's with them?
this is not about balatro. balatro is literally just a poker with a twist. you can't really spin it the other way. Jonathan is talking how the other game settings are being turned into low effort card games.
in this rougelike survival extraction deckbuilder you are a witch in the mountain looking for her lost cat. to talk to the nice mr. fox please pick one of those random cards.
Yeah
today i'll stop the "either productive or unproductive" mindset. ideally i do both. i do degenerate wastes of time, but also something productive. i'm so tired of always thinking i have to stop one thing to do the other.
it seems to work the same with diets. if you want to better your diet, add healthy stuff on top of it, like just eat more instead of changing what you eat.
duality is one hell of a ping pong.
what am i even thinking? that i'll ever get myself to work 24/7 for years non-stop without ever having fun? ofc i have resistance to that.
same as
soulslike
metroidvanias
boomer shooter
roguelike
vampire survivors what the fuck are they even called clones
Nobody really wants immersion in 2025. People want comfy games that can be played over and over again. Card games happen to be the easiest one to make.
Videogame mechanics can be so immersive on their own such that you can present that player nearly pure information - cards - and it still feels like you're in life or death battles with monsters
I mean I'm annoyed by the glut of roguelike deckbuilders but the foundation of his argument goes against the medium he's trying to build upon.
this has to be about blue prince
JBlow is wrong about a lot of things, but right about a lot more.
I like him. He's a fucking insane moron who's pissed away years of his life making his own programming language (instead of looking at all the other failed languages that do exactly what he's trying) and he's teasing the idea of pissing away even more making his own OS (same story), but I like him.
Sadly, you're not wrong.
Even FFXIV threw away the unique way of speaking it's used to this point and had everyone speak like they're from California in the latest expansion. Thankfully that expansion has been heavily derided so they'll hopefully take a step back to normalcy.
His opinion is that of the movieslop enjoyer. Often times people will pitch games by telling you about the setting, story, etc which is all bullshit that's supposed to be SECONDARY to the actual gameplay. Deckbuilders aren't my favorite type of game but it's clear that they are gameplay first and that everything else is just seasoning.
Because he went all in on blocks.
Cards are fun, deckmakers don't eliminate other games. I don't even play deckmakers myself but there's nothing wrong with them.
I play cards with friends still
Nah I like roguelite deckbuilder slop, and Blue Prince is absolute ludokino also if that's what his whining is about
because everyone makes card games
everyone plays card games
meanwhile no one cares or will play his dumb puzzle game that he spend half a decade or more making
He's a type 4/5 apple guy. If you show him a card it's just a card.
That's an honestly absolutely insane take.
Even if you've never heard him talk about his philosophy or the books that inspires him, just playing Braid should tell you that's not true. Nothing in Braid is what is shown on the screen, the whole game is about the idea and wonder of scientific discovery. Even the retards who only slightly get it still boil the game down to an analogy about nukes (it's not, that was part of it but only because that's an important part of our scientific history).
The entire reason he made Braid as he did was because he couldn't see a single videogame story that was better told as a game rather than as a book. Even the games with "good" stories were just book stories told without interfacing with the medium of the videogame almost at all.
I'll tell you what annoys me though, now that I think about it, is all the shitty h-games that try it and do it wrong. I do not want to play "strike" and "defend" cards in a damn porn game, I want to play stroke and slurp cards and attack female enemies with cumshots that do horny damage or whatever.
You are one with wisdom.
He's like terry a. davis but without the schizophrenia which just makes him kinda dull and uninteresting
I've always felt the same way about card video games. There's no purpose to cards when you have an entire virtual world to work with, except for being too lazy to make real assets.
you can't have different genres of games because you just can't
Blow is a pretentious pseud that never made a single good game
He's completely right. Virtual card games are fucking lame unless they're a multiplayer tabletop simulator.
Multiphase boss battles. First phase with hand attacks, next with penis attacks.
Weird times indeed. I've actually been thinking about playing Fez recently.
There's a reason why FromSoft keeps making the same game over and over again.
Ever looked at their pre-Demon's Souls catalogue? It's mostly Armored Core and absolute garbage beyond your wildest imagination.
Despite being known for groundbreaking all-time classics among the highest rated of all time, their average Metacritic score is 74. They'll be milking the Souls cow till it runs dry because there's no guarantee they won't be going back to 4/10 land with their next one trick pony populated mostly by the likes of Steel Battalion Kinect.
Hey Jon.
almost as if fromsoft was always a horrible studio
What has this homo been doing since he canceled Fez 2?
He doesn't have to play those games.
I hope he understands that.
"Card game" isn't really a genre to begin with. It's more like a medium.
he misunderstands that there is an appeal to the mechanics of manipulating such cards or objects. I like Jblow but he has spent a lot of time making games and programming and way less time than gamers have actually playing games.
His opinion here would be more reasonable as "I dont like deckbuilder games and I think people should make more of other games where you are actually in the spaceships or fantasy settings"
No. A medium is something like video games or tabletop. Card game is a genre that has different subgenres.
I don't agree with other anon's diagnosis but Blow was severely wrong with his judgement of other games. The easiest counterexample is random encounters in turn-based games, which serve to "stretch time" so the player feels as if many days have passed in the game. A book attempting the same thing would fail, horribly. Blow is smart, but myopic. It is what it is.
No, it's more like "virtual card games don't really use the medium of video games in interesting ways and really should be considered a completely separate thing".
Blow is smart, but myopic. It is what it is.
Yeah, he's wrong about a lot of things. He's pissed away a decade making a programing language, he's stubborn and stupid.
But he's still coming to the idea about making games from a fully authentic point of view, trying to make games like the kind'a books and ideas that inspired him. The idea that he "only sees things for what they are" is insane, when Braid literally makes a point of insulting that kind of mindset.
Ghostly, she stood in front of him and looked into his eyes. "I am here," she said. "I am here. I want to touch you." She pleaded: "Look at me!" But he would not see her; he only knew how to look at the outside of things.
(Ie, appreciating science as a whole instead of just slapping labels on things without looking at what that thing represents)
can we finally make social media screencap ops a bannable fucking offense? if I wanted to browse facebook, reddit, or twitter I would. Fuck off.
That is not the purpose of random encounters and in many RPG contexts that wouldn’t make sense anyway.
get your gear back in a prison escape sequence
battle 300 guards on the way out
characters act like it took 20 min to escape or whatever
i actually like the trend, because any game that has deckbuilding it's shit, so i know to avoid it.
the only exception is shovel knight
Is he broke yet and on the streets?
He made a game where you just solve ipad puzzles so he's not exactly the best advocate for making the most of the medium but he's still right, fuck card games and fuck deckbuilders.
Fuck this dude. I love deckbuilders. And I make no apology for it!
No, that's a retarded assessment. Card games (which have already existed for centuries) have more in common with a medium than simply being a genre. Do you think anyone thought card games were a "genre" of something 700 years ago? No, dumbfuck, card games are card games.
You misunderstand. It stretches time for the audience. Similar to what a dream sequence accomplishes in Ulysses etc.
It is infinitely funny to me how there was a brief window of time where they tried to make these indie devs feel like they were the most important wave in media. I kinda miss it though.
People "doing what they enjoy" has historically been the cause of the most dangerous forms of cancer and other bringers of death in the modern age.
smoking
eating and drinking sugary, processed slop
throwing trash wherever they damn well please
driving polluting landbarges
based the moment I see card games I know it is 100% slop and I am always right
Or in another way: It "bonds" the audience into the game's time. Again, literature can only do this through extreme breaks (similar to composition), games can have it built-in, very naturally.
Slay the Spire is peak
He is a talented guy, I hope he makes something interesting again, preferably with a strong Art team.
Random encounters suck either way, put the enemies on the overworld and make some of them unavoidable if you need to.
Yes I know what you meant. Stretching time to the audience has the opposite effect in a sequence that is meant to be taking place quickly, it makes a disconnect when 10-20 minutes in universe takes 1 hour to play through due to random encounters
