Why is Bioshock so praised?

Dont get me wrong, its a good game. I just dont see what makes it genre defining. You just shoot electricity at pudles

It has a lot of Jewish themes so the media class adore it.
That is pretty much it.

First was so-so, Bioshock 2 is where it actually gets good.

It was a cross section between the modern FPS, which was becoming wildly popular at the time (notice some of the dated controls, since it predates call of duty 4) and the rich storytelling of "immersive sim" games like System Shock, packaged for a wider audience.
I think it balances the two well but I can understand why others think it's overly dumbed down.
It's been 20 years but I still think BioShock tells an interesting story and has compelling characters and world building elements.

You just shoot electricity at pudles

You never played the game.
I mean, you can shoot electricity at puddles, but no sane person who played the game would think that shit was game-defining and worth mentioning. You just picked it up from some review or video or something and think you know everything about the game.

Because things are better under the sea
Under the sea
Darlin', it's better down where it's wetter, take it from me
Up on the shore, they work all day
Out in the sun, they slave away
While we devotin' full time to floatin' under the sea

Kill yourself
Bioshock 2 is a copypasted half assed attempt to make another game with no new ideas, no new mechanics and nothing new whatsoever. It's a peice of shit, worst bioshock game ever.
You have no taste and you probably are a faggot too

I did play it. Its just what I remember the most. You can also shoot fire at gasoline. The big daddy fights were fun but I just dont see what else is so mind blowing about it

Because it dared to say "BUT WHAT IF BOTH BAD"

what else is so mind blowing

There was nothing better before? Zoomers have trouble grasping how a game could be influential 20 fucking years ago, because now everything has been done over and over again now. Bioshock's story was good. The twist was good. "Would you kindly" and all that
Also, this track slaps and you're a real homosexual if you don't like it. And it was used well in the game
youtube.com/watch?v=nlu2z2gkhhI

The twist was good. "Would you kindly" and all that

the game... made me do all this? OOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAA

You are a pompous philistine who probably never played the game. Yes, it didn't introduce new mechanics except the hacking tool to replace the abysmal pipes minigame, but it vastly improved both combat and exploration, and that's what matters the most

2 shits all over Infinite all day long. walking around rapture with a little sister and wielding a giant drill is pure bioshock. also, "no new ideas“ is stretching things, as Lamb was presented as the antithesis of Ryan and we see how rapture deals with the fallout of Ryan's death - instead of a libertarian capitalist taking his ideals to the extreme, they get a psychotic commie bitch obsessed with eliminating free will and the ego of the self - ie a communist authoritarian taking her views to the extreme. yes it's not exactly revolutionary (pun intendid) but it's far better than Infinite's theme of "white americans are completely irredeemable monsters who must kill themselves as fast as possible." there was about as much difference between bioshock 1 and 2 as there is between halo 1 and 2, did you want them to change genres or something?

I believe the hype was entirely fabricated by journos. Bioshock is far from being a gaming juggernaut like resident evil or Mario, hell i'd argue that crysis is more popular than bioshock. The only thing still keeping the collective gelstalt from forgetting this franchise altogether is the elizabeth porn

it's simple - Rapture is a ridiculously compelling and unique setting that is great to look at and explorec, and fascinating to think about when you're not playing the game. a massive art deco city at the bottom of the ocean fallen to ruin and horror is pure sex of a setting, regardless of what the story is about.

when the FUCK are we getting BioShock 3 (a return to form survival horror shooter set in Rapture again that ignores Infinite except for a single Easter egg where you can see Songbird's body float by outside a window)?

it was a streamlined immersive sim with a cool setting and plot twist that plays on the idea of player agency

its a good game

nobody said any more or less about it than that

The xbox 360 era had absolutely zero sense of critical history and every opinion was driven purely by marketing. If you read contemporary reviews of it the vast majority of them were by people that had never played System Shock 2. It was a really bad and stupid time in a way kids don't really understand anymore with the way social media works now.

This post is so wrong on so many levels it's basically retarded. Bioshock 2 introduced dual-wielding weapons and plasmids, ADAM harvesting with Little Sisters, a far superior hacking minigame, and a few more tonics and plasmids. You might argue that 1's story was better but that game's twist was just taken from System Shock 2. We also got more lore about Rapture and the different characters which was infinitely more interesting than anything Levine came up with when writing Infinite. Also

copypasted

Almost as if the game is set in the same city as Bioshock 1.

The reason it's praised so much is because it was the first FPS 360/PS3 casuals played that wasn't CoD/Haloslop. System Shock 2 (its spiritual predecessor) is better in every way except maybe atmosphere, Bioshock also has superior environmental interaction but that's it.

Xbox 360 toddlers non-Halo / CoD game.
Applies to every single 7th gen sequel and reboot, like Oblivion and Skyrim, Resident Evil 5-6, Witcher 2-3 ...

Deus Ex HR too
That game is still coasting on the fact that it wasn't as horribly retarded as everyone was expecting a 360 Deus Ex to be

never played the game

I played it on release and was shocked at how SHIT it was. Maybe I was even BIOshocked

WOOO LITTLE SISTERS I LIKE LITTLE GIRLS HEHE I WANT TO TOUCH A LITTLE GIRL

Fuck off, faggot

"no new ideas“ is stretching things

Your anus is stretched

did you want them to change genres or something

I wanted them to make a new entry in the series and they made a parasitic addon with nothing new. The absence of the kike Levine is VERY obvious, because those impotents couldn't come up with anything better without him

Bioshock 2 introduced dual-wielding weapons and plasmids

HOLY SHIT, BEST GAME EVER WOOOO
By that logic Crysis: Warhead is a completely new game too! Amazing!
Kill youreslf, fucking nigger

a far superior hacking minigame

Literal drooling retarded brainlet. You're not even a human, you're a monkey

You might argue that 1's story was better

It's really hilarious that even Bioshock 2 apologists can't deny that the story in their favorite game was A PIECE OF SHIT. JUST LIKE YOUR TASTE IS SHIT

BIOSHOCK 2 IS A SHITTY LOW EFFORT ADDON FOR BIOSHOCK 1, A CASHGRAB MADE BY TALENTLESS FAGGOTS

UGHHHH LET'S MAKE FEMALE BIG DADDIES HEHEHE

^
I
This is the best they could come up with

there is a 0.0% chance system shock's setting is as cool as Rapture, i'm sorry.

you type like a nigger-brained retard and your arguments lack substance, you faggot-lipped piece of shit

u do be nigger yo aruments lack uhhh substance uhhh faggot

Ironic
It's really funny how "people" like you hate Bioshock Infinite and love Bioshock 2. It's like your brain (or whatever's in your skull) is working backwards

several people ITT including me have given you reasons why bioshock 2 is good and instead of refuting our points, you started ranting about your repressed pedophilic urges. you are the dumbest of fucks and nobody finds it endearing

Baby's first for a lot of things. I mean it was a 2007 game, the year everything started to die. Also

HOLY SHIT, BEST GAME EVER WOOOO

By that logic Crysis: Warhead is a completely new game too! Amazing!
I never said it's completely new, but that it improved the gameplay of its predecessor. Why does everything have to reinvent the wheel? Infinite went in a different direction and it's obvious how that turned out: shit.

Literal drooling retarded brainlet. You're not even a human, you're a monkey

If you unironocally believe that Bioshock 1's hacking minigame was in any way complex, you are one of the dumbest people on this board.

It's really hilarious that even Bioshock 2 apologists can't deny that the story in their favorite game was A PIECE OF SHIT. JUST LIKE YOUR TASTE IS SHIT

It's pretty obvious you lack reading comprehension. I said you could argue that1's story is better, not that 2's is shit.

You love men though

Shit, fucked up some greentexts.

Nothing wrong with iterative sequels. Some of the best sequels are literally just polished up asset flips of the previous game. Just going over gameplay, Bioshock 2 is a better take on Bioshock 1's concepts, and its story hinges on more human elements than the grandiose themes and philosophy wank that Bioshock 1 and Infinite focus on with varying degrees of success.

this whole spergout in the thread

Can't imagine anyone even caring this much about either game to be this assmad unless you are Ken Levine.

Funnily I never see people shit on Majora's Mask for being an asset flip of OoT, in fact that game is viewed as one of the best of all time.

Some things are popular forever and some things are popular for a time. But you obviously weren't there if you genuinely believe this.

Introduced 30 unique masks, many with their own novel mechanics

Asset flip

I mean yes the game world was literally inverted, but you are underselling how different Majoras Mask really is.

Yeah, exactly because of that I'm not gonna read it

it's obvious how that turned out: shit.

That would be Bioshock 2

I am going to concede you that, Bioshock 1's atmosphere is what redeems it for me. It just makes me mad that we could have gotten the gameplay lf SS2 but vastly improved with one of the best settings in gaming history.

It's probably just Rapture. Replaying it like last year, it's still a really impressive example of art direction. Visually, Bioshock has aged better than many games of the time or since.

Nta but yeah as a gameplay experience, I've never picked Bioshock over SS2, and I was one of the aforementioned 360 toddlers who played Bioshock like 12 years before SS2.

No one said it was genre defining, it's just a really solid game.

Great story, memorable characters, well written, great atmosphere, great semi-linear level design without going full labyrinthine bullshit, lots of fun plasmid combinations, good challenge on the hardest difficulty no vita, big daddy fights are a lot of fun, short and replayable with minimal cutscenes and padding.

I'd put it in a similar category as RE4 or Portal 2, just one of those timeless, fun, well rounded games. Although I don't think it's *quite* as good as those two.

Presentation

the big daddy fights were really cool. i liked how they just throw them at you almost straight out of the gate and tell you to deal with them. Atlas says something like "it'll be hard but i know you can do it". in other words: git gud
