I miss this nigga like you wouldn't believe
You are welcome to share your favourite moments/reveals from any E3
I miss this nigga like you wouldn't believe
turn xbox into an irrelevant brand
I do miss the autism of live shows.
$400
We had it pretty good
booth babes were nice
Some were.
you will watch Summer Game Fest and like it!
I miss this as a yearly ritual that I got to spend with Anon Babble
It was shit, but it was comfy shit.
how did Geoff become so powerful?
comfy shit
That's why I miss it. It doesn't really feel the same without it, though we do have other events like TGA or SGF.
I also miss big reveals, they just drop them on youtube or during those states of play now. Boring.
i can't remember what year it was, but whichever nintendo show had the pajeet going fucking nuts on stage with that wii dancing game or whatever it was
Eh it's not that bad as long as you don't pretend Summer Games Fest ever has anything worthwhile. The Xbox show for the big stuff since Microsoft is the last megapublisher and control of Call of Duty is giving it a lot of extra eyes, the Nintendo show for the Nintendo stuff and the midbudget, more niche things. Indie games show up at PAX, some publishers might show things at Comic-con. Summer is still a fun time but it's more spread out.
Really the sad fact of the matter is that E3, a big concentrated day of reveals, is no longer viable just because the pre-7th gen strategy of every publisher just shitting out a lot of different games gave way to the modern strategy of "we put a billion dollars into COD and we get $12 billion back." The market and the cost of game development incentivizes just making one or two really big franchises since the vast majority of the market only has the attention span for a handful of games every year. There's no point in E3 when all Activision, now a Microsoft subsidiary, only makes Call of Duty. When EA and Take Two's only regular output is sports games and sometimes they put out a Battlefield or a GTA/RDR, why run a wholeass convention that needs infrastructure, and also needs you dev teams to be able to create a small vertical slice and trailers for that specific week? It's not worth it.
The other half of the matter is gaming journalism really hasn't meaningfully existed since the end of the 2010s thanks to the hypercentralization of the internet; when was the last time you honestly went to any website besides youtube to watch a trailer? Every publisher uses the Nintendo Direct model, a lot of them even call them Directs. There's no point in a big publisher-to-journalist-to-consumer pipeline event anymore.
Although honestly I'm just grateful for any event that gets Anon Babble to actually talk about video games instead of stupid barely/not-even-vidya-adjacent garbage.
E3 peaked in 2010. Had its last hurrah in 2013. Had been utterly irrelevant since.
you will never have a Anon Babble E3 fort thread EVER again
E3 was shit longer than it was good. That's not to say there weren't fun moments, but none of those were intentional.
forts
sovl
Batman
TMNT
Ghostbusters
Cozy.
the only other one I have saved
TV TV TV TV TV TV TV TV TV TV TV TVTV
kek that was 08 E3 youtube.com
Summer Games Fest ever has anything worthwhile
That's where that long awaited Elden Ring trailer got dropped though.
I miss being advertised to!
where are my cinematic teaser reveals with no gameplay!?!
I want corporate goons to jerks off in my face and call me an idiot so I can clap and beg for more!!!
i have many fond memories but it really REALLY got shit around 2015 I'd say
it's not really a mystery why it ended up dying
The added context of crowposting being a thing before this E3 made it better.
I miss shooting the shit with people during the e3 days, not the advertisements themselves. Obviously most of those corpo people were fake as fuck.
it wasn't about the ads it was about people making a complete ass of themselves on stage and shitposting about it
I'll never forget the Kingdom Hearts III reveal. People were absolutely losing their fucking shit and breaking down in the front three rows. It was insanity.
A random thought for a blah game, I recall someone at IGN liveblogging Ninty's 2009 show and then suddenly the clusterfuck that is Other M's trailer came on and they just go "Whoa, the hell is this?" Not something anyone expected after 2008's.
Yeah, this. It was just a time of year in which the industry lit up with announcements to look forward to.
I do recall describing why I was interested in following any of this and getting "Wait, why are you watching a trade show?"
08
christ I can't believe it was that long ago
feels like just yesterday
Was it on the same level as ff7r reveal or crazier?
You have to pay to be nominated?
I will never forget the amount of relatable cringe of this presentation. I felt so bad for the guy, but he did the best he could.
Crazier, Kingdom Hearts fans are a whole other level of insane
is that the guy who was visibly shaking with stage fright
I remember this guy. He was fucking shaking the whole time. Sean Murray situation but a hundred times worse.
bringing up Elden Ring still like a one hit wonder trying to do a Lollapalooza set
Geoff played his hand successfully once and got greedy. He's trying to take over not-E3 and do the same thing to Gamescom and if the Japanese probably wouldn't tell him to fuck off he'd try do the same thing to TGS. Now his last few events have been complete snoozefests culminating with a fucking AI NFT cat game at the Game Awards.
Publishers have zero incentive to pay him for the privilege of advertising on the internet and it shows.
Yeah, we're all getting old.
hi
I don't. The shows were 95% corporate bootlicking and ads. The new trend of just showing trailers consecutively is much better.
y y y
you'll be sucked
like 50% of geoff's shows are fortnite and chinese gacha crap
i much preferred when it was Sony doing their snake oil salesman routine when a new console was coming mixed with trailers, at least I could laugh at that
One minute is more than enough.
one mirrion
THE POWER OF THE CELL
Ya, he was the guy who looked like he was 3 seconds from crying and shaking like a leaf through the whole presentation.

E3 stopped being cool when they stopped allowing general audience in. Only people left were industry plants and shills.
Fun Fact: The very first E3 was May 11th to May 13th 1995.
The original E3 had people like Michael Jackson and Steven Spielberg show up.
I'd argue e3 hit its peak around the mid 00's then around 2012 its just started going down hill (along with everything else). Only thing that comes close to its energy anymore are the nintendo directs.
A literal YEAR of DMC5 threads was great fun.
But that was quite literally a shining light in the utter darkness of modern E3. The industry doesn't reflect the true interest of gamers anymore so I don't want it back.
Spielberg
He later participated in the making of Medal of Honor iirc.
Miss how cozy Anon Babble got during E3
Everyone was just talking videogames, and course, being live shows meant there was always something that went wrong
Nothing else is as concentrated, nothing else is as comfy, part of Anon Babble died with E3
Nothing else is as concentrated, nothing else is as comfy, part of Anon Babble died with E3
Our collective hopes for the industry died. But we all kind of knew it was coming.
I wish I could find the weird ass pre/ post show stuff from E32011. I remember watching some live streaming event featuring Hideo Kojima and some other Konami employees and they were streaming from a Hotel room. It was weird and wacky as fuck. The whole Konami event from 2011 was insane.
Yeah we miss the good days of E3, not where it was later in it's life because it was already dead by then. I guess the end of booth babes was the the coffin for fun which most people could agree upon. You have no idea how much i wanted to go to when i was younger. But i don't live in America. If only i was older at that time when it was still great I'd have experienced it.
(You)
>Spielberg
He later participated in the making of Medal of Honor iirc.
And then he praised the game Bug! and said that 'this is the game that will do it for Sega' or something along those lines...
Close to four hour of video coverage from E3 1995, there is actually a lot of footage from this event on youtube...

Yeah it was my favorite. Still got the DVD
Nintendo was the first to take the road and practically end E3 by doing their own thing. Because they were tired of the embarrassing shows. Blame them for killing e3 for liking the image they got for the goofy shit people still laugh about i guess, even though i think it was apart of the charm when people in the industry had to impromptu in front of large crowds. They didn't like what they couldn't ultimately control and they had the means to do so they created their safe corporate controlled events. Which are all just boring.
*for not liking the image they got
Correction. Yeah that was a big part of the reason.
Nintendo still kept showing up to E3, they always had a lot of floorspace and a floor show in Treehouse, they just hated bullshit like what happened after the Switch 2 reveal where people just kept reiterating insane shit like all games are $90 or every Switch 1-to-2 upgrade costs $20, simply because the people whose job it was to ostensibly report the things Nintendo told them at these events kept blatantly reporting misinformation or hyping shit they knew was never going to happen. Nintendo probably still remembers Geoff basically trying to throw Tropical Freeze under the bus over a decade ago.
Plus you don't have to set up a whole event in a theater hall.
What i meant is that the one no show that year set the precedent of not having to comply with the other companies in competition in the theater hall, then Sony noticed it and thought it was a good idea, as did Microsoft. E3 dead after that. It was catastrophic for the show to not have one of the big 3 there.
The E3 Where Quake II and Battlezone were revealed was a classic
The fact that Romero was losing his unified shit over it was a classic, but then he cant code for shit and fell for his own ego while Q2 and HL did better.
what a strange twist of fate.
You could say he was unravelling...
HEY, WANT TO COME OVER AND PLAY MY WII?
I miss what E3 was 15 years ago.
Greg Miller antagonized gamers during the covid livestream and told gamers to be better.
