A lot of people assume that we're controlling Kris - and we definitely are, we tell them where to go and make some decisions for them - but is there any hard evidence that we've ever FORCED them do something that they REALLY didn't want to do?
It's not like Kris is a mindless drone when we're controlling them, other characters react to them expressing themself and saying what they want even if we don't get to hear it, and they have plenty of leeway in interpreting our choices, sometimes to the point of contradicting them. Kris acts on their own in cutscenes, defending Susie and Noelle and backing away from Spamton. Like Susie says, they don't need to be told to sit down, do they?
We can definitely tell them to do things that make them uncomfortable, like stealing money from Asriel's drawer or going through the whole adventure with Spamton. But there's a difference between doing something "reluctantly" and being outright controlled, isn't there? Kris was definitely afraid of Spamton, but aren't there times you have to do something scary, especially if it might be the only way to get something you want? After Kris plugs Spamton in to the NEO body and nothing happens, Kris starts hitting it and beating it without any prompt on our part. Doesn't that seem like someone who's frustrated that they might have gone through a lot of trouble for nothing?
Isn't it possible that everything we might have "made" them do are all things that they were capable of doing on their own? Maybe it wouldn't have been their first choice - but how can we say that the thought didn't cross their mind? Are we really "pulling their strings," or are we just a voice in their head?

I always saw our control over Kris as not literally forcing them to do one option or the other, but whenver Kris finds themselves torn between multiple choices, (You) come in to make them choose one way or another. I think it's a way more fun distinction than just possessing them the whole way through.
It also gives the Spamton NEO fight more weight, as it's not just the player coming to terms with the fact that they're fucking with Kris's head, it's also Kris coming to terms with the fact that something's fucking with their head even though they've been trying to ignore that fact.

But couldn't Kris also choose to try to keep it together and hide how scared they were, so Susie and Ralsei wouldn't worry about them?

This is part of my point - a lot of the choices we're given do represent Kris's own thoughts and feelings. When Pizzapants tells Kris about his girlfriend, you can either "Stop" or "Lie and say you want to hear more." When you get to the Chapter 2 Dark World, Kris can either express "Let's go!" or say "We can use my computer at home." One of these is obviously more expressive of how Kris feels, but they're both thoughts in Kris's head, aren't they? When Noelle asks Kris if they need a dog treat to stay on the switch, your options are "Yes" or "Nooooo" - both options lead to Kris sincerely expressing themself, they're both things Kris wants to do in some way, not a choice between what Kris wants versus what You want.
Why would this not extend to Snowgrave? In many of the choices during the Weird Route, you're given the option to "Proceed" versus backing down in some way to abort the route, usually being friendly to Noelle or apologizing for making her uncomfortable. But why assume that "Proceed" isn't also Kris's words?
They're obviously uncomfortable with what they're doing, but sometimes people feel they need to do things they're not comfortable with, right? Nobody's more uncomfortable with what's going on than Noelle, but does that stop her from doing it? And there's no question that Kris is willing to put people in harm's way when the Chapter ends with them opening a fountain no matter what.

By the way, you can get Kris to tell Noelle to "Proceed" just by skipping the first mouse room. It's not just in Snowgrave.

I think Snowgrave is likely to lead to Kris realizing that we've really fucked them up and that we might be a bigger problem than... whatever it is they're trying to do without us. Noelle already realizes there's something wrong with Kris and that confrontation is probably going to happen sooner than later.

It's very hard to predict though, especially since the "point of no return" has already happened. Berdly is fucking dead and Kris and Noelle killed him, it's too late to stop us, we've already done irreparable harm. While Toby conceptualized DR before UT and has the ending set in stone, it's clear a good chunk of DR was also made in response to the fanbase at large. Ch1 being made to subvert expectations in UT fans while also re-introducing the same characters in different roles. The whole Gaster shit, I don't think Toby would have considered expanding on back before UT blew up in popularity.
I'm half joking when I say he's using fan response to determine the direction of the story, but he's probably taking a bit of it into consideration to play around with our expectations and also take in critical feedback to make the future chapters better.
Would be funny if this WAS a metagame of fans vs creator and Toby was challenging us to change his mind on the ending the entire time or something, but the magic would go away the moment the final chapter drops and all future players would basically miss out on the community participation element. So I don't think Toby intends to do that.

Noelle becomes your strongest party member by far. That's already a more clear and direct benefit than whatever Kris gains from opening a Dark Fountain on their own.
Whatever Kris needs Noelle to get stronger for is anyone's guess, but Spamton seems to have some idea and even thinks it will work. She's already strong enough to one-shot a superboss Kris had no hope against alone.

You can already choose to say you don't care what Susie's doing in the normal route, unlike in Chapter 1 where you have to let Ralsei and Kris talk. You don't even get prompted in Snowgrave, which seems like Kris is just ignoring Ralsei entirely. Maybe they're not interested in hearing what he has to say anymore, maybe they don't want to think about what Susie and Noelle are doing, maybe they're shell-shocked and disassociating after what happened to Berdly (Kris is also non-responsive to other people at this point, Susie asks Kris to enter Noelle's room with her right before this and gets no response).

He also avoids calling Noelle for help in Spamton NEO.

This isn't really true except in the sense of calling for her as a last resort. People have made a big deal about the fact that it says "You whispered Noelle's name" instead of "Kris called for help," but plenty of other battle dialogue uses "You" when Kris does something, and Kris is still definitely saying Noelle's name out loud with their own lips, Spamton hears it and reacts.

what if, consider this: kris doesn't want US to know what's going on. think about it this way:

The biggest problem with the idea that Kris is at least somewhat still in the driver's seat during Snowgrave isn't "Why would Kris do this?/Kris wouldn't do this," it's that Snowgrave also unambiguously establishes that the SOUL does NOT need to act through Kris and is 100% capable of issuing commands to other character directly.
Berdly will only attack Kris during the Snowgrave fight, and Kris getting knocked out will prompt special battle dialogue where Noelle confirms that she can still hear "their voice" despite Kris being unconscious. It is entirely possible, and in fact specifically planned for, that the actual "Snowgraving" happens while the player is commanding Noelle directly and Kris is knocked out, and the rest of the route will play out exactly the same way. This obviously severely undermines the idea that Kris is responsible for the most important act in Snowgrave.
The event in the hospital goes even further and dispels any notion that the SOUL is Kris's own voice and will.

Noelle describes this strange and unfamiliar voice commanding her whether or not Kris was knocked out when you iced Berdly. Noelle suspects something is wrong with Kris, but she still doesn't know about you. She's describing Kris commanding her in a strange voice not like their own during Snowgrave.
This all builds a very strong case against Kris having any culpability for their actions during Snowgrave. We might be reading their mind and finding their worst impulses to act on and take advantage of, but there's no question that we are the one in control and that we pushed Noelle to kill Berdly.

You may be able to convert the Data into a format usable with the PC version of Undertale, but I don't know of any utilities to do this, this may also require you to make software modifications to your switch.

I agree. I think outside of Snowgrave, we're more directing Kris's will than actually forcing them to do anything that they don't want to do. And whatever's going on between Chapters is a whole different ball game, Kris definitely has their own agenda.
But Kris is also not a bad person. They care about their friends and love their family. Continuing on as planned after Snowgrave can't be pure callousness, there has to be a very good reason for them to accept what happened to Berdly. In Pacifist route they defeat you by turning you good, in Neutral ending you achieve your goal as a sort of morally-gray antagonist, in Genocide route you fly off the handle and become a full-blown world-destroying villain. True ending of Genocide is Sans defeating you, the actual "ending" is a fail state - bad guy won and destroyed the universe. That's why the game is truly over after that.
