If you picked Verso, you are admitting that 50-70 hours of your time was a waste of time. The fate of the painting isn't up to fake Verso to decide anymore. Maelle is the correct choice no matter how grim it is being presented as.
Litmus test game
redhead sex > realism
Maelle's ending is very good. She recreated everything, gave people happiness, even revived Gustave and his waifu.
Versotards seethe at it though because -oh lord- he is forced to play piano yes they are actually this retarded and emotive holy kek.
Compare to this and their sadist ending where Maelle is forced to live as an disfigured gremlin for the rest of her life
Really makes you think
Maelle has the ability to paint hundreds of canvases. Her dying in the canvas leaves no legacy, not for her or the ones in the canvas. this game is about legacy. Break the cycle. When one falls we continue. Tomorrow comes. Alicia will carry the legacy of the canvas.
ESL thread.
The fate of the painting isn't up to fake Verso to decide anymore
shut up you retard faggot
it can not be his to decide when you stop relying on him to actually keep it going and existing
until then, it's his choice
my house is mine, it doesn't matter if 800 indians try to squat in it it's still mine and i'll bulldoze it if i want to
you are not entitled to the infinite suffering so you can use his soul to continue powering your retard shit just because you can't accept you were wasting 50-70 (if it took you this long what the fuck is wrong with you the game is linear) hours of your time from the start
even revived Gustave and his waifu.
revived
not really when you think about it. When she brought back Lune and Sciel she specifically held on to their essence that was already there. They show it. Gustave and Sophia have been dead for awhile with nothing to utilize. She made them from scratch from her image of them rather than who they actually are. I imagine tons of biases went into that Gustave.
Verso ending for the sake of "MUH ESCAPISM ISN'T HEALTHY" is shit tier
Maelle ending for the sake of fleeting happiness is mid tier
Verso ending for the chance to fix things properly and not give up on the Canvas world, just on it's current doomed state, is high tier
Maelle ending for the sake of acknowladging the canvas world as real enough and believing in Alicia/Maelle's strength of heart is also valid
Did you even watch Maelle's ending? She just turned into her own mother and you could see how much pain Verso was in, he just wanted it all to end.
Given the cinematographic elements and choices, it's obvious that the developers meant Verso as the canon TRVE ending and the Maelle one as the noob trap jumpscare failstate. Why else would they put such a strong and sinister horror vibe for the latter though?
how much pain Verso was in
totally deserved for being a lying piece of shit
Verso is Kefka
it's not her dying canvas. thats the point. the canvas has inhabitants that chose to bring save everyone and Maelle's just so happen to align with the canvas
faggot, the verso we see is PAINTED BY ALINE. thats not fucking Verso. Verso is dead. Only that little boy remains. You can even talk to that little boy and encourage him to continue painting in Lumiere if you even bothered paying attention to the game. Maelle is also the painter now, she can take over.
If you picked Verso, you are admitting that 50-70 hours of your time was a waste of time
People like you cannot help but think in an unhealthy matter eh?
No, experiencing something and then moving on is the healty way to live.
The entire thing happened because two retarded women couldn’t move on with their lives and wanted to live with wooden people who act like pre-pubescent kids until they died
Gustave wasnt killed by Nevrons, his chroma is not stuck and rotting like the rest of the expeditioners
Again, who gives a shit about Maelle's painted Verso? He is not on the same level of importance as Aline's Lumiere
Because its bait. They want you to think that Verso is correct because they want to trick you. Maelle is not correct either but Lumiere lives on. Verso just ended the whole canvas on his own choice and he's not even the real one
I picked her because I thought she was the wrong answer
Escapism is le bad ok?
enjoy your cave and shadow puppets
I stand with Verso. I will not elaborate.
Escapism is, in fact, bad, btw.
I will, thanks.
you are in the video games board
50-70 hours of your time was a waste of time
Of course videogames are a waste of time. If I could leave and return to the real world, I would. But I am trapped here. Videogames were a disaster for humanity.
where do you use the old key you get from that lady at the pier during the gommage thing at the begining?
Anon Babbleerso
Doesn't mean painted Verso was wrong. Maelle needs to grow up and stop playing with dolls.
Yes, i am discussing video games with people on the internet
Are you able to differentiate that from what these mother and daughter were doing
Do you think entertaiment and art are to escape reality?
No, they are to explore it.
Marche is right.
All I know is Clea was in the right and I want to play her murder spree she is on
I really wish France was real, I guess the closer thing we will ever get is that weird town in china they made to promote this game
50-70 hours
Holy fuck, of course it would be the shitters that side with Maelle.
Define 'escape reality'
Noo you have to go back to being bullied and you my brother must go back in the wheelchair.
Weird how the "muh escapism" fags never have real problems of their own huh? I wonder if Renoir would sing the same tune if getting his wife and Alicia back meant having to deal with other issues that arose from that. Of course he wants them back, Reality for him is ideal.
if you talk to every npc and do all the side content before the final boss you can easily get 50 hours in
If you have some form of reading disability maybe.
pretty big words for a literal 10 years old boy/girl
More like the chads who did all the content, found all the journals, killed all the bosses.
50-60 hours is how long the game takes to 100% even if you're good at it. It takes 20-30 to beat without doing all of the side stuff.
I’ve heard that that key can open all sorts of locks
Writing like this should stick to people on drugs or something. It just doesn't add up when magic is involved.
Buddy, 100% takes 30 hours. The main story is 20. Unless you're absolute trash and got filtered.
Show your 30 hours platinum faggot.
Bigger question is why does the writers hate the painters?
true soul of verso wants to stop painting. he can stop painting. humans were never supposed to be in the painting he never mad them, they were all forcefully inserted by the rest of the family.
I couldn't do it so nobody else ever could
Brainlet. Filtered. Trash.
superior artform
The writers are actually the IRL Sandfall dev writers. They killed Verso by writing that he died in a fire.
Macron probably hates that his country made this.
all relatively young women
no older women
True. If you're talking about a genuine magic world with sentient beings it's not the same fucking thing.
Just because you have the power to play god over some undeveloped tribe on a remote island with your "magic" technology doesn't mean they aren't sentient beings.
the mom is hag representation
Won't show the screenshot
Lmao I knew it.
their leader got rejected from art school
he can hate france as much as he wants, that won't stop his head from rolling under the guillotine at some point
Kek
I just beat the game (35 hours, main story and max relations, some side bosses) and it was kino. I of course sided with Maëlle. She has everything in this world, can't even talk and is badly burned in the other. Why would you sacrifice all of Lumière because not-Verso was a whining faggot?
Dude all romance options are above 32 years old
By JRPG standards that's ancient, maybe the highest in any JRPG published in history
Renoir can't even beat painted people while in a painting, nigga wants to destroy the painting cuz he's getting scared of what painted humans could do if they had more time to develop tech even wilder than the Lumina converter.
kill yourself, larping subhuman
Verso is right, Renoir is right. You are a kid with no family if your own yet, You'll understand eventually.
Loving and wanting to marry old hags will never be normal. Kys
Gommage yourself faggot
The thing is, if in Verso's position, everyone in the expedition would do the same. For example, if it meant saving Sciel's husband, she would offer them all up no problem. None of them would be falling on their own swords for the others. It is simply double edged tragedy for all.
Renoir is right. Verso is a retarded faggot who only cares about himself.
Stab his girl in the chest and murder her
Whines about it for 67 years
No he can, Alicia is the one who is having difficulties with it
marche is not right, becuase it's a different scenario
in french baguette story, there is hope, there is a way to do things better
for marches brother there is no hope, there is no way to do things better, it's just "get back in your fucking chair and cope" forever
I think you misunderstand verso. He is tired of having an existence that only brings pain and suffering. His whole existence is driving his mother's copium death.
You won’t yet understand. But this is a kindness, not a cruelty.
Verso literally sacrificed himself twice to save his retarded little sister.
It's obvious Verso's ending is canon. You see the family smiling at the end and them being somewhat happy. In Maelle's ending she's crying because she knows it's all fake.
He's responsible for the death of many expeditions, Lune and Sciel. Couldn't care less. Maelle's ending is him getting his just dessert.
Without knowing more about the writers it's hard to say. My headcanon is that the painters are chroma monsters and can utilize large amount of it compared to writers who can only express their chroma in writing? This headcanon might add up since Clea is going to war with the writers alone and it doesn't sound like she's worried.
What happen when Maelle exhausted her life and died?
Has anyone figured out what’s wrong with him? There’s no way someone who genuinely doesn’t like young women doesn’t have some mental illness
No, they all died because of his retarded mother and sister. Canvas would be completely fine if it wasn’t for them
How do I build end game Lune? I've been using Monoco and I just got his last skill so I want to swap him out since he was basically just there so I could pick up skills.
She's got kompromat on him
You could romance Lune or Sciel with his so clearly he didn't actually hate living as much as his angsty faggot ass pretended to
I wish it was 6 characters and not 5, if your team gets ko'ed you have only 2 characters left to fight.
Hey Renoir my homie, don't destroy the painting, hide it and tell Aline you destroyed it, if she somehow comes back come in and tell us, we'll help you kick her out. We already did it once after all.
Alright senpai you're good
There we go, all is fixed. If Renoir didn't nuke people and asked for their help instead this shit would've ended a lot earlier. Expedition 60 would've done it.
I hope they explore the real world in the DLC. I'm curious how powerful these people are if they can create life with just paint
Verso never rejected the positives, he in fact helped Alicia fight her father, but he saw that Alicia was in fact, just like their mother, obsessed.
He had to fix the issue, take things into his own hands, that’s what Men do.
So question: They said in the game that Maelle's real body will die if she stays in the painting for too long. What happens to the painting world once she dies?
Nothing unless Renoir or Clea burn it.
The game is over after 25 hours. Skies of Arcadia was longer and it's a Dreamcast game with zero cgi cutscenes to pad filler.
he hates that his existence is a pain to the real family. and always will be. that's why he doesnt want this life.
Renoir or Clea burn the painting and kill the people anyways. Clea is the only one who knows where it is hidden. She also painted half of the canvas herself. She could force Maelle out of the painting if she really wanted.
Real shit fellas how would we feel about a DLC or update that gives a 100% ending FFX2 style that is genuinely happy and not bittersweet fronchcore where no one is genuinely happy
Were humans ever intended to be in the painting? I recall the paintress battle where she says that Renoir turned her creations against her.
Seems like a faggy copout to me desu. Let the marvelslop shitkiddies who want their uncomplicated happy ending burn
It won't, it will only get darker from now on. You just know the whole family will die somehow in the DLC
I want a prequel about one of the earlier expeditions
On one hand you'd think their real reality has fucked up magic stuff going on but Clea told Alicia to repaint her voice box inside the painting suggesting that it's not possible in reality. That being said Clea is fighting these people solo so she must be using some kind of magic to fuck them up right?
Also the way it's suggested is that the writers used Alicia to start the fire that harmed her and killed Verso but how? They say she was a recluse who read books even before the fire happened right so did they send her a book laced with writer magic that just fucking exploded? Lots to contemplate.
Clea is the only one who knows where it is hidden
Aline found it like 5 minutes after getting kicked out
The whole family dies
Darker
Bro that's the best outcome possible.
Reading the lore tidbits in shocked more people don't talk about the other expedtions and what they accomplished. Things like setting up zips and cliff holds manually or making it to fucking sky islands and even close to the monilith was monumental achivements they don't get credit for
Just like it was for FFX, awful and undermines everything the game wants to say
Expedition 60 perhaps?
Just say you want a game full of grannies
B..b..but I like happy endings bwos... she suffered enough and clearly her ending shows how broken and mentally psychotic she's become over this..
when exactly were they matching ages to the expeditions? surely they weren't sending out a bunch of geriatric 90 year olds to explore?
No Verso and Clea never made any other humans. Aline made Lumiere and the humans as a place for her fake family to live amongst.
Why do americans always want to win and have an happy conclusion to everything?
Renoir destroys the painting so Aline won't suffer the same fate
I suffer in France
You mean like the ones that were cowards give and did nothing for a whole
prob expedition zero since there's so much random setup for it's events in the game with verso, julie, painted clea and simon.
Sorry that my soul wasn't crushed by living in a country full of paki rapists and troon apologists
Oh c'mon now, they aren't that bad. Renoir seems like a chill guy
Things will get better.
You know what the ending choices remind me of?
Harvester
He said he created countless worlds, how many of those did he destroy after he had his fun?
Hot take but they did nothing wrong I think a few of them who aren't really soldiers were fine living till their gommage rather than pissing away in a nevrons asshole
how many of them had sentient beings in them
Well, it's possible Aline destroyed those. It is said she saved him in a similar manner from his own grief, and fell into the same trap.
Guys what order am I supposed to do the postgame shit? So far I’ve
Did two levels of the Endless Tower before getting mogged by the Dualliste
All of that Ice Fire dungeon
Lune’s sidequest where you fight the worm monster
Esquie’s sidequest
I’m tried to do Monoco’s but Golgra beat me up. All my characters are in their mid-50’s
bruh it's like making a sims world. You've never had fun in a sims world and then delete the world? It's VR for the painters
Aline is old and will die before that anyway
ah! France, the city of light, love and rats
do maelles and go to reacher
Reminded me a lot of Nier Automata desu. From the choice being “shall we erase all this shit or not” to the “fight as x/y” and the way it was framed.
Do the fight with Alicia.
Except sims aren't alive retard.
inb4 neither are painted people
They are. They breath, dream, fall in love, reproduce, invent. They are indistinguishable from real people other than the universe in which they dwell. It's not the same.
who did it better, in the end?
that's the UK
Maellefags don’t click this files.catbox.moe
he said he got lost in a canvas and I don't see that happening without being able to interact with something
Defeating evil with the power of friendship
Get that gay shit out of this thread
Clair Obscur cause it lacks the tumblr aesthetic of Undertale
I do what is best for queen Lune. Simple as.
We have no idea how much time passes outside for each year inside
The moral of the story is to touch grass. Don't stay coupled up in imaginary worlds.
yet
Why didn't fake Renoir tell the expeditions that the paintress wasn't the one killing people? Even if they had no chance of stopping the real Renoir, that would probably be better than what they were doing.
Imaginary
Holy low IQ
No, it's enjoy it in moderation, not to the point when it fucking kills you.
basé
My imagination is probably more alive than you, it is still however an imagination
That would be lame and a sure sign that this team will be one hit wonders.
This, Aline is mentally ill and so is Alicia (but at least she has more reasons to not want to live outside)
the actual moral
You can't interact with an imaginary world. An imaginary world can't literally hurt you. Retard
Paint some god damn shoes on Lune.
Alicia has her entire life in front of her, Aline is at the end if her life and she had to bury her only son
or at least paint her some cuter feet
Has a potential as long as it makes you work for it. Give them all a group therapy they need.
It's approx. 1 in-canvas year = 1 IRL hour but they never make it explicit because it raises a lot of narrative questions.
explain why this nigga wasn't in fact sealed bellow the monolith?
The first expedition after 00 was 84.
Alicia has damaged lungs and burnt vocal cords among other stuff. Her life in real world would be a piece of ass unless she meets some guy who sweeps her off her feet in a whirlwind romance.
Fake Renoir simply wanted to kill people so their Chroma went back to the paintress instead of being trapped by the Nevrons. The more Chroma goes back to the Paintress the stronger she remains and the longer she can keep the painting going.
Burnt face and can't speak
Has her life in front of her
I think you would see things differently if you were in her position
so, the writers guild is way more stronger than what's left of the painters guild, can they just literally write people deaths or something?
Yeah what was up with that? I assumed he just got out as Aline got weaker
Speaking of which, what year even is it? Verso died in the 1900s, so I am assuming it is pre WW1
Also if you notice her Verso's ending not a single one of her family gives a single shit about her. Her parents are huddled together comforting each other, her sister does the bare minimum and then she fucks off not even looking at Alicia a single time leaving Alicia all on her own. The final shot of all the painted people waving her bye is the last chance of happiness she has escaping her
probably some bullshit like Alan Wake.
How does Clea understand her?
Imagine stealing Lune into your own canvas and enjoying her sheer disgust and frustration when you tell her what you will do with her.
tfw Writers are ze Germans
I think it's like 1906-7 at most, her burns have healed somewhat and she can walk, that's an achievement with 3rd degree burns.
Clea was the one who sent Verso to take care of Maelle. She does care about her.
If you picked Maelle's ending, you missed the whole message of the game, you absolute media illiterate retard.
Maybe it has some kind of limitation like it only works if certain people reads it. Like Alicia got baited into reading the burning incident or something
it is an entirely different universe. we don't have 33 days in december, aka the day verso died.
Yeah breathing is painful for her, i am aware. Her old mother meanwhile lost her only son.
You don’t seem to understand how to make this comparison. Alas i cannot tell you what you would feel if you were in her place, because you will never be a woman and a mother, but losing her only son pretty much is the worst thing that could happen to her. With Alicia i can think of much worse things that could have been done to her.
holy retard
Verso died in 1907. It probably takes place in 1909 or something cuz the burns Alicia got would not be healed that well before.
Yeah that kinda fucked me up that it's 33 days in December, maybe even more. What if you're still in the painting and the whole game is like inception with multiple layers.
Or the Writers altered reality
Although what Painters can do if Writers can pull Alan Wake is beyond me
Picking Verso literally only makes sense if you base your decision on the final 10 minutes of the game.
There is no good ending.
Maelle ending people are just horny bastards
Writers can't be that strong if Clea thinks she can solo them, also their only means of attacking the Dessendre family is through their recluse daughter weak link.
If you think that, you missed the entire message of the game, which is to keep moving forward when people die, even if it's hard. Act 3 ramps this up by showing you how dangerous staying in the painting is and how Maelle is literally acting addicted exactly like her mother. The writers even spell it out to you by having Verso's soul tell you he wants to stop.
The French perfected bittersweet endings
Keep moving forward when people die
That's not the same as "killing people to move forward is okay"
what is overworld music that plays in act 2 when we get verso
As much as I'd like to help the family, I can't let the world and its inhabitants die. Neither choice is concrete and both have major downsides.
Killing people
They're not even real, that's the whole point
And the other message is "Lumière is more important than individuals". You're basically sacrificing a whole city only for Verso.
Define real.
I bet you think wrestling is real
People are already dead, it all happened because Aline wanted to bring me back and Alicia wanted Gustave back. That’s why the entire world had to be erased. Honestly i would let those two retarded women rot in their delusions, if only they weren’t my mother and sister
This picture will be forever relevant huh
speedgamer
Extant in reality, the canvas is not reality
Why you guys actually debate over who was right when pic related, back in the day, was immediately dunked on by EVERYONE?
Maelle ending would be really weird for the people in Lumiere, they would literally live with a god that can do anything, even bring people who died back, like she did with Gustave
youtube.com
i think its this but if it isn't just go to the act 2 OST on youtube, they're all next to each other prefixed with "World Map"
if only I could be so simple as this anon, life would be easy.
It's literally a pocket dimension. It is reality. It exists withing reality.
If you picked Verso, you are admitting that 50-70 hours of your time was a waste of time.
Yes. That was the point. Go out into the real world and live your life instead of wasting your life on video games.
the painters are in a universe created by the writers, and are aware of their situation.
people still argue if Marche was right or not. This is just part 2 of it.
Marche is right. Pretty much everyone is under a spell many becoming animals and having their memories entirely altered for some kids escapism from reality.
In the end he helps them grow and move forward
She clearly implies it's a group effort and otherwise they face annihilation. Having limited reality benders as opponents (like alan wake, so they need to spin a story first) would fit it.
yes this one thanks
Why didn't they just erase Verso from the painting and let the rest live? If Verso was gone then there wouldnt be a reason for any of them to stay in the painting? Also what's stopping Aline/Alice from painting a new painting with verso in it?
Jin Kazama exists in reality too then
Are the family outside of Verso's painting real? How do we know they aren't some creator's fantasy playing it out?
dechire la toile
verso ending canon
Retard. I bet you failed your philosophy classes.
give me the full spoilers. what is the big plot twist and ending in this story? paintress was a good guy the whole time? I couldn’t get past the prologue
Their how fixation on the painting is that its the last piece of Verso's soul. To destroy him is unthinkable.
The Alicia part of Maelle doesn't want to give up Verso. She wants to be with him, too. Which is why he's still in the party in Act 3.
We don't, the world could literally have been created by the writers for all we know
They are attached to Verso's painting because it's the last piece of him that is alive and there literally is a piece of Verso's soul there, the painting is only erased when that piece of his soul stops painting. Sure i think they can make painted Verso again in any painting but that wouldn't be Verso's painted world
They can paint the family but a crumb of his soul that was within specifically this canvas is gone.
Yes we don’t know whether they are real(in-universe), but we do know the ones inside are not.
if I uninstalled because the first hour was dog shit and I admitted that I didn't want to waste 50-70 hours of my time on some gay, goyslop FOTM, what do I win?
weirdly similar to FFX
fayth dream of zanarkand
tidus is a dream
kill yu yevon so fayth can stop dreaming of zanarkand
tidus disappears
yuna moves on
until FFX-2 fucked it up
The biggest moron on 4chins reward
Now fuck off
the miserable faggot award
congratulations!
Paintress was actually trying to prevent people from getting erased. The game is a battle between a family of magic painters who wants to keep or erase the world created by their painter son who died because of a group called The Writers
Would you be ok with living in a VR headset forever living a fake life while you are dying irl?
Painted Verso is not what's special about that canvas, it's the fact that Verso himself made it and it's a piece of him left behind. Sure it'd be easy to make another canvas with a painted Verso in it but it's not the same. Making a painted version of her family is just Aline falling down the hole more ultimately.
Depends on how shit my life outside of the VR is
Literally the stupidest post of the year
Yes we don’t know whether they are real(in-universe), but we do know the ones inside are not.
Missed the point. Define real, the inhabitants of Verso's painting have thoughts, feelings, dreams, nightmares, worries, grief and everything more. The Painters are rotten people playing God.
Actually i was my professor’s favorite student. And characters are in fact real, as characters. Gustave really does exist, he’s a character that exists.
When people say real they mean “real human beings” with biology and etc
Then why didn't Maelle rez Gustave in act 3?
thanks. who came up with the idea of expeditions and why? the writers?
This reminds of that swort art online season with the guild of terminal patients who lived inside the game
But they have biology, it's simply different from ours. If we met beings on another planet that were not carbon based would you label them as unreal?
the painted people came up with it. because they are still sentient and don't want to be exterminated
I'm really not sure. She didn't have the chroma to do it? Since he is already dead perhaps there is some limiting factor with Renoir in control of the painting. I notice the only dead ones she brings back are zombie soldiers basically
How the fuck do people manage to misunderstand this shit so much? She fucking couldn't. She didn't have his Chroma.
We don't know much about the writers, they barely talk about them and were used more like a sequel or DLC hook
I see. thanks
We don’t need to define real, we just need to just use the word correctly, be specific in what we say, they’re not real humans, they don’t have human biology. That’s what people mean when they say they are not real
Thoughts, feelings, dreams, nightmares, worries, grief are all things aliens can have, aliens are not humans
Not being human and not being real aren't the same thing moron.
the family of painters can enter the worlds they create, wife dove into her son's painting to grieve and recreated their family, then the husband dove in to retrieve her after she refused to leave for many days while her body deteriorated.
their fighting caused the painting to fracture, the expeditions were originally just search and rescue missions from the last surviving human settlement but as the number ticked down and older people started to die they changed their objective to hunting down the paintress.
be clea
family has powers to create VRchat with chatgpt npcs
make a living creating vrchat rooms with chatgpt waifus for lonely horny weebs
making fortune, living in huge ass mansion in the middle of paris near eiffel tower
lifes good
one day some stupid writer clan decided to kill my brother to send a message
their profits fallen by a lot lately because weebs dont read erotic fictions anymore
time for revenge
but need help doing it alone is hard
mom is a mess after brother died and locked herself in garrys mod server where she created a copy of said brother to cope
dad spends all the free time to get her out of there because shes clocking to many hours inside and its killing her
sister is a mute depressed burn victim who spends her time with mom in garrys mod trying to fuck older npc males she created instead of helping me get revenge for our beloved brother
mfw have to do it alone
mfw i hate my family
Maelle is cute and I simp for her, simple as
So ending gustave is a recreation and not a revival?
man face desu
that actually sounds like a decent story. is verso the husband?
At least the painters are just prone to family drama
Meanwhile the smallest writer problem:
Was there any particular reason why Charlie Cox was totally absent from all the marketing of this game? Even Andy Serkis who I would say is a bigger celeb than Charlie cox did put in the effort of getting involved with the marketing doing interviews and whatnot.
He's filming another movie right now.
verso is the fake son the paintress recreated to cope. real verso died in real world by the writers and by saving Maelle.
You are a single digit IQ retard I want you to know that. She DIDN'T have his Chroma at the time during act 3. She DID in her ending since all the Chroma was hers to use after beating Renoir since she was the sole painter of the world. Fucking moron, holy shit. Actually try paying attention next time. Maybe it'll help.
I heard he had to leave the project early for another project.
He was too busy prompting the new season of Daredevil. He probably forgot that he was even in this game
Not a single Maelle simp even attempted a retort
yes
I would fuck Clea so hard she wouldn't be able to stand
It'd happen the other way around mate
Her preferred family lives in this Canvas. She doesn't give a shit about the rest. She likes Gustave, Sophie, Emma, Sciel and Lune more than she likes Renoir, Aline and Cléa.
Verso is the recreation of her son that created the painting, who also lived a full life as a human in the painted world. Since she couldn't bear to see them dying again, the wife made her entire painted family immortal, which eventually drove Verso to become suicidal, seeing generations of his friends grow old and die. He sides with the protagonists openly because he wants to force the paintress out of the painting, but secretly it's because he wants to end it all.
being the oldest child makes Clea is extremely relatable.
Retort to what? You didn't say anything
At the very least the motherfucker swimming all the way back to Lumière was 59 since he was gommaged before reaching it.
Yeah Im thinking sex with Clea
Is the dog a painter too? They should make a crossover with okami
What if outside the painting is also a simulation by the Writers. Would you feel the same?
Its obvious charlie coxs agent requested that he not have to do any promotion for the game. There isnt a single second of charlie cox in any promotional material for the game. So its clearly deliberate.
giant 100 appears out of nowhere
how did expedition zero even know what the number meant? checkmate
If we're talking about anime, it's far closer to gridman.
a depressed girl has trapped herself inside a computer world where she perpetually creates and destroys a city full of people living their lives
among her creations, there's a girl who is a carbon copy of her real life self, except she's living an ideolized good life with a mother who is actually a doll in her room IRL
another party enters the world to bust her out, it incarnates into the body of a boy from the computer world but gets amnesia about his true purpose and identity in the process
I would not use the words biology for them, they have their own version of it certainly, chromavita if you may. I would say those aliens are not human beings obviously. And life is not solely judged on spirit, body is also a thing. You can say that perhaps all sentient life share spirits. That is probably. Alas, i am an ethnonationalist, further you are from me by blood, reduced value you have in my eyes. Which is why saving Maelle while basically committing a genocide can be a true dilemma. If she is a close relative of mine, then yeah i’d do it. Funnily painted Verso chose others over his own, after all he had the memories of real Verso, and because of that felt more connection to human blood
She should marry and give birth to more painters
baguette
the dog is monoco
that's why he's verso's best friend
painters are just dumbasses abusing their power to play pretend while writers have to fight some eldritch threat risking to break reality
I'm almost positive this is what the game was implying. That the "real world" was just another creation but by writers and that clea was going after her in worlds facsimile of the writers.
can't even compare to the fucked up bullshit of the dancers guild
that does explain his utter loyalty to Verso, including helping him keep the secret plans.
sounds kinda based
It's likely they'll make a writer based game but they can,t really pull the same twist again since everybody will expect it. I wonder what they'll do.
When people say they are not real they mean they’re not human. Nobody says they’re not real characters.
Gustave obviously exists as a character, he is obviously real if we’re using the word that way
But who's Esquie?
mom doesn't include you in her painted family
why do they hate her so much
They will pretend it's a new game with no relation to E33 but then reveal it halfway through the game
The doll on his bed. Esquie is just made up as being all powerful, he is the childhood friend.
game morphs into a visual novel midway
The crates in Monoco's train station say 1923
Verso's stuffed toy
too many fucking speed gamers in this thread
Verso was the oldest child.
there was a painted clea. simon was in love with her.
This was never implied at all
He's mon ami
Bruh she did. Aline even gave her a boyfriend. She painted over her to make the white nevrons and trapped the boyfriend beneath the monolith because she was disgusted by Aline's painted version of her.
alcoholism
Why did Painting Renoir killed the expeditioners on the beach but then let the Nevrons kill the rest and steal their Chroma.
WriterGODS did nothing wrong by killing Verso. It was all to protect mankind
inb4 Simon/Gustave was a writer irl
Yes it was, she only revived Sciel and Lune because she absorbs their Chroma before leaving Lumiere with Esquie
The sequel will be Hitler is rejected from becoming a painter so he becomes a writer.
Is he? All the dialogue from his ghost boy self makes it sound like Clea used to bully him like an older sister would. Like making Lampmaster to fuck with him.
Make sense, that's why he speaks in riddles because he's drunk
it will be writers knowing they are in their creations doing their thing but they also don’t know Clea also got in. It’s now a horror game
they didn't. the first expedition was not paintress related. it was expedition 84
he didn't give a fuck anymore
russian spy has to go into mein kampf to save the world
How the tables have turned
expedition zero was search and rescue from the fracture
Realistically speaking, the verso ending is 100% the dev intended ending. you're just given the choice of who to side with because it establishes maelle as an equal rather than the antagonist and emotionally attaches the player to the ending because they chose it rather than being forced into it.
How can people overlook such simple lore aspects of a game? Clea is the oldest child of the Dessendres, Verso is the middle one.
You're kind of reaching, there're just wormholes in the story
third game is An Ordinary Miracle expy
Verso himself looks forward to Maelle healing the world and bringing back everyone who had their future stolen. He is conflicted but leans towards living on in the painting, all the way until the very end when he decides "actually no I must die and also everyone else should die". But that's Maelle's flaw as a person, as a paintres she does what is best for everyone without even thinking about it. She kills painting-Alicia because she asked for it, without even considering what Verso would think. She makes painting-Verso live on because she thinks he deserves to live.
The VA for Esquie and the Mocap actor for Verso and Gustave said that the Verso ending is canon.
youtu.be
Reddit seems to really hate the endings and act 3 in general
Yeah, the whole "We continue" theme is proof enough that Verso's is the true ending
How old is Clea supposed to even be?
No, you are just that incapable of following such a basic story.
you're reaching because your facts don't support my made up schizo headcanon
Shut the fuck up moron
writers and painters unite to create KINO
well its just his opinion as he says.
She literally does it in the cutscene
youtu.be
From 9:39 to 9:50
The lives of the Lumierians are as real as the ones outside the painting, hence Maelle's ending is the right one
Don't even bother to argue with me I know I'm right
Implied
It's pretty explicitly stated
The writers already altered reality, Verso died a December 33rd.
Said is canon
Question is "which one is the best in your opinion"
Smartest Versofag.
writers could be in this thread right now
movies?
Barely older than Verso (died at 26) since they shared their hobbies and playtime as children, a much older sister wouldn't be having much with her younger brother otherwise, she would feel dragged into childsplay. Clea could 30 years old.
how do you know it's Sciel and Lune's chroma. Probably thousand of people lived in Lumiere for generations. Looks like wormhole to me
33
Francois misses Clea..
Isnt a 33 year old having a 16 year old sister a bit weird. Thats a very big age gap between siblings.
This would be a good sequel as cinema was invented in France in this period
I didn't even know what tints were until I killed the second Axom.
It would be if Verso didn't exist. The Dessendre's had three children with pretty sensible gaps between each of them.
Both ending are incredibly selfish for the person who wins. Maelle’s ending is great for all the luminarians but terrible for her and verso. Verso’s ending is good for the family but terrible for luminarians, who are all living, real people that matter. It’s not their fault they’re cursed to be part of the painting, but they still matter. I hate seeing them gone. But I lean Verso. I hate that it hurts the people that mattered to me, those families living in the shadow of the monolith. Each ending fills me with a different kind of sorrow.
alicia has red hair. renoir is a cuck
Verso's ending would be a no-brainer if the game didn't make it fact that the people of Lumiere, the gestrals, and the grandis are all sentient and brought to life. That's the point of both endings that people somehow miss, it's never about "is it real?", the question is, "is it worth it?". Maelle is more than willing to throw away her life outside the painting for the people of Lumiere and for her own happiness.
She might be wrong, but could you really tell all the tens of thousands, maybe even millions, of Lumierians that sacrificed everything for those who come after, "actually you all don't deserve to exist and I won't even try to come up with any alternative"
Dlc will have playable Verso, Clea, Esquie and François
Nah, m8, you're crazy.
I dont like how Clea is mean to her burn victim sister.
literally invented by the Lumière brothers
Sorry, but she is only doing it for herself. Her arguments never once mention anyone of the canvas, just "I have no life outside the canvas" and she is willing to modify any unsavoury elements that get in the way of her enjoyment of her time in the canvas.
I never put maelle’s well being over any other. Why does she deserve more concern just because she originates from outside the world? What about the people of that world? They are just as real, only cursed by circumstance.
Alicia did get Verso killed, so it's understandable
The same can be said about Verso, what matters is the end result of each of the endings
True Verso = Demiurge
Aline/Alicia/Maelle = Sophia
Reincarnated people = Pneumatics
Rest of the painted people = Psychics
Rest of the creatures = Hylics
She cares about Alicia. She's just mad at her family they're being retarded.
Both are true retard. Both Verso and Maelle are both selfish people acting in their own interests and selfless people acting in the best interests of those they care about and while also ignoring the wellbeing and interests of those they also care about. The game literally could not be more blunt about how both endings are equally valid and both characters are both equally selfish, selfless and hypocritical.
Oh fuck off. You’re some soulless check point sprinter one shotting everything with maelle’s meta build you read online. Imagine running down this game in thirty hours and being smug about it.
The same can be said about Verso
He specifically states the entire family's grief needs to end; so not the same. Verso is suicidal but pointed the of what he actually thought it should be fixed.
Alicia is a TERRIBLE person and was depicted as such by the devs. She is canonically evil and selfish. Picrel proves how awful she really is. This VERY dialogue is ONLY here to point out she only does this for herself and not to make things rights after causing her brother's death.
I want to vomit, literally.
I would fug burned alicia, desu.
No reason to lie
No reason to kill
Based?
If any, Marche has more right to turn back things as they were because the whole town was changed into the fantastic version of Ivalice which was completely alien to the people and even some of them were transformed into fantastic creatures against their will.
In E33, the canvas is another totally different thing from the real world and only affects a family and even then, it's optional for them to get out.
the sidequest where maelle vaporizes alicia
while verso just has to stand there shellshocked
i feel like this really foreshadowed the maelle ending and her not giving a shit about versos autonomy
KINO
Noticed that Mask Keeper also uses a long sword plus short sword since he's based off of Verso but this means the real Verso used them and painted Verso just does it cause of memory?
Maelle's ending is better because I'm spiteful over my boy Gustave. Screw Verso
I can fix her
It's a parallel to Verso just coldly watching on as Renoir murdered Gustave. The entire family are assholes.
this nigga was all talk and then i 2 shot him like some shit ass nevron
Why do people act like Alicia was the one who started the fire? Why is everyone in this family a huge retard? If someone set my house on fire and my brother ran in to save me but he died in the process I very much doubt the rest of my family would blame me for my brothers death and act like a bunch of retards.
the first foreshadowing was Noco's death. Maelle says you can just repaint him right and Monoco says he won't be the same
Verso dies in both endings, I'm not sure why he's such a little bitch about it in Maelle's.
Nooo I don,t want to get to live surrounded by people knowing that I am finally mortal noooo I want to die NOW
why did she do this?
This just makes her a normal teenage girl
And i am team Verso
Verso and Maelle are both doing only what they want and nothing else. In the end, neither of them are doing the right thing. Maelle is throwing her life outside the painting away because she loves the people of Lumiere so much. Verso is destroying an entire world, invalidating the dreams and sacrifices of millions, and forcing Alicia into a lifetime of pain and misery because he can't bring himself to ignore the idea that a family was ruined because of his existence.
Verso can say he is doing it for Maelle, but that's not the whole truth. He also claims he wants the real Verso's soul to be at peace, but the real Verso loved his creations and wanted his canvas to be a place where new beginnings can flourish.
But he won't though. He's eternally cucked Maelle won't kill him it's the last piece of her brother's soul.
Billions must die.
Miss gustav yet? a phantom pain…
Alicia irl is clearly going to end up killing herself from the constant suffering
No Maelle specifically makes him mortal in her ending hence why he's physically older.
Verso
Atheist ending
Maelle
Christian ending
You choose either cold, crippling reality or a life of happiness under the benevolence of a false and fading God. Both are melancholy and kinda kino ngl. Both are correct choices, you are fighting for your right to life, if even at the dismissal of other people and their desires.
Thatd what makes it kino. The last stand of expedition 33.
I don’t want that. That’s an anime ending.
mortal
Maelle just made him old. Now he's immortal but old instead of immortal but young
Verso is a vile creature. Ultimately just one of Alcine's golems, stuck with her impression that "her son" would always sacrifice himself for his family
Verso
Monad ending
Maelle
Demiurge ending
Fixed
Painted Verso isn't the piece of the soul. It's the little kid being forced to paint
no you see it makes it better having only 2 as a backup as it really puts you on the back foot and being like oh shit I only have these 2 left
Christian god literally calls himself “the truth”, and he also sends bears to ravage kids
2 Kings 2:23–24 (NIV):
"From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. 'Get out of here, baldy!' they said. 'Get out of here, baldy!' He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys."
He would 100% be team verso
christian ending
override verso's free will for selfish escapism instead of dealing with pain, loss and personal growth in the real world (carrying one's cross)
maelle's ending is anathema to christian values
Some time clearly has passed in the Maelle ending. Lune and Sciel are older. When Verso fades she says something like "would you be happy if you were mortal?"
Verso is 5, Maelle is 1
Just started playing this game. What the fuck is up with the weird ass grunts and just silent moments in the beginning. it's like watching an autist write dialogue of how people are suppose to talk.
the game makes you regret the death of Gustave
I'm 5
Not sure if I wanna do NG+ or just start fresh and try whackier builds.
that's called realism
I know. thats why its good that you only have 2 backup party members
There is no suffering for one that is already dead. There is no emotion in that boy, just a shadow of when Verso once was.
would real verso agree with Punished "Venom" Verso?
I dunno but it's funny to think that little Verso is just paling around with Monoco and Esquie at night and Lampmaster is just spooking his ass everytime he shuts his eyes.
Also the way it's suggested is that the writers used Alicia to start the fire that harmed her and killed Verso but how?
In the year 49 nightmare maelle has where she wakes up and talks to clea, they show alicia taking part in some large kind of seance looking gathering, holding a bent Effie tower candle thats burning with a bunch of strangers. Then we see shots of the fire. Maybe there’s some clue in that shot. It stood out but I should have taken a screen shot.
that dialogue during the gommage was not realistic at all.
Can you idiots stop repeating thos, Verso was fine keeping the canvas, he even helped Alicia fight her dad. But he wasn’t gonna let his sister commit a suicide, real one gave his life to save her, painted one did the same
Obviously. He gave up his life to save Alicia IRL, he wouldn't want her to waste away in a painting
how so
I haven't seen a single streamer pick Maelle yet. That tells you everything you need to know.
just two gaylords that are ASSMAD AF they have the worst taste in vidya imaginable
Yes, because all the painters are selfish assholes and so would real Verso be if he got a chance to grow up
wait this was SSSS Gridman the entire time?
I will now play your game.
youtube.com
what did goycarnage pick?
Then why not just go slaughter all of Lumiere?
Verso.
you don't randomly do grunts and sighs like some autist.
Fly around and kill all the mini bosses scatter all over the place in the overworld, the ones that don’t reappear on rest. There’s tons of them.
He would have agreed that Alicia shouldn't spend her life in the canvas, but he would have disagreed with destroying it. Real Verso loved all his creations like Esquie, the gestrals, the grandis and he literally poured his soul into the world of the painting. Painting Verso forced himself to forget his bonds to all those beautiful creations, as well as all the people of Lumiere, because he didn't want to feel responsible for tearing that family apart anymore.
it's like watching an autist write dialogue
Please, they are french, be patient...
where do you think you are?
Update
This, real Verso says that the people of the painting are as real as those without. For him destroying it would've been akin to nuking a whole country. Nothing justifies that.
The shield
What is Clair and Obsucre, and why are they enemies?!
as well as all the people of Lumiere
He can't have an opinion of something he never saw, the painted humans are an alien addition to Verso's canvas by Aline.
Anon..he made the shield and it only stops Nevrons.
Even if it didn't and it was all purpose, he could show up in front of the door and be like "surprise guys, I'm an old human! let me in and all tell you all about how that's possible :*)"
The real answer is that he's not a fucking maniac. He puts the expeditions down like dogs because they're made up of old people anyway and recycles their chroma, he spawn camps them so they don't get murdered by Nevrons (the lamp thing seems to be his pet specficially, not Clea's creation). At some point it seems both him and Verso were trying to fool the expeditions into going after the Axons but they just gave up after a while and decided to let it be.
is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. It is also a technical term used by artists and art historians for the use of contrasts of light to achieve a sense of volume in modelling three-dimensional objects and figures.
Don't care, love Maelle, hence she's always right.
For me, it's Clair Obscur (optional boss).
What do the Lumieriens even mean by 'The Dome'? I didn't see any physical or magical shield. It didn't seem to stop or help against Renoir's grommage magic. It didn't seem they needed to worry about wandering Nevron attacks (they have the sheer distance of the sea for that)
Its got to be longer than one hour, that time frames to short for stuff like how clea acts about the parents being in there while going off on her business or aline saving renoir from his own painting one time. I think a day is more reasonable.
He was talking about painted Verso, who it seems was basically living a fake normal life in fake lumiere with Aline and the rest, until real Renoir barged in and caused the fracture. Past that point expedition 0 launched to save people and Aline presumably fucked off to fight real Renoir
So here's a question- when Verso is told to stop painting, everyone gommages. Does that mean that someone has to *constantly* paint in order for the inhabitants of the canvas to stay alive and kicking?
i beat the game in 17 hours retard
more like
If you picked Verso, you're a grown man who is able to recognize the need for differentiating fantasy and reality
If you picked Maelle, you are a damaged little girl who can never move on past your childhood trauma
But yeah, I can see where the average /gaymer/ would definitely be Maelle
Impossible, Renoir was trapped in the monolith for 67 years, his body wouldn't have lasted 67 days comatose IRL. Whereas 67 hours = 3 days is harsh, but reasonable
It didn't seem they needed to worry about wandering Nevron attacks
Wrong, that's exactly what it does. The sea would not stop the Nevrons. If you wonder "damn how the hell did Lumiere make an anti nevron dome" remember Verso/Renoir have all their real selves' memories, so Painter skills without Painter powers. They're basically Neo, which is why they can do all that crazy shit.
mfw i want to have sex with clea
she paints the biggest dick humanity has ever seen onto her crotch
hmmmmmm
dumptruck arrive
This quest implies Lampmaster was created by Clea. You fight it here. I guess Lampmaster the story boss battle could be a recreation of this one made by Renoir.
i missed the part where that's my problem
Can't Alicia just go in and out of the canvas from time to time? She's not like Aline where she's basically gone insane and made a make belief family inside, she just wants whimsical non crippled adventures. She surely can drop by reality from time to time so her body survives, no?
Not sure why you expect WW1 to be a thing in their universe, or that their universe is normal earth at all.
the fact that verso fucks this makes him right no matter what
This was addressed- it's because Renoir would destroy the canvas as soon as she leaves
She could but she doesn't want to. Verso straight up says this when he said she lied to Renoir. Alicia does not plan on returning to the real world ever.
Which voice actor will be picked for the Game Awards nominee?
you choose verso maelle lives
If you choose maelle she gets sick and probably parishes.
Either way the canvas gets destroyed. That’s how I saw it
I think you’re over reacting to clea’s fierce independent streak and renoir comforting his wife. The father has made it very clear he loves and cares about alicia.
Probably cause of the eiffel tower but even if we pretend the painting stuff is "metaphorical" the real Dessendre manor looks nothing like a Paris home of the era and it has floating paintings in it.
Either Ben or Jen
did i miss out on any kino in fight convo if i just one shotted verso
ben starr or jennifer english easily. probably jennifer because she was also shadowheart.
Ben Starr was better than Jennifer english but they're gonna pick her for diversity.
this assumes that they remain frozen for as long as they are in the canvas. but renoir mentions that he sees aline dying slowly every single day, and aline is moving around. aline would never leave because renoir would immediately destroy everything
That's the issue and what made Verso change his resolve at the last minute, Alicia went completely native as Maelle by completely rejecting her life outside the Canvas, she wanted to be there forever even if it meant it was killing her.
Cox or Serkis. Ben Starr was kind of mid
the Verso, Maelle, and Renoir actors are all like known VAs right? so one of them. probably the Maelle chick.
Geoff likes big names, I would bet on Andy Serkis. Personally pulling for Ben Starr cause I like his weirdo shit. Jen is also good choice.
Painted Clea is actually one of the last couple bosses. Aline even gave paintedClea a gigachad 7ft tall boyfriend named Simon probably as a passive aggressive hint for Clea to finally get her life moving. Real Clea actually hated that so much, she mindbroke paintedClea and made her a slave that churns out Nevrons to assist realRenoir into weakening the Paintress. Also as a joke, Clea mindbroke Simon using paintedClea and left him to rot underneath the monolith after he got his ass kicked.
Except the game never once states the world in the painting is a fantasy and in fact does state the opposite. Nobody would pick Maelle's ending if the painting was just a fake Matrix simulation. But it's more like a different dimension, the painters have straight up magic powers.
The game seems to be based on France's Belle Époque era, so yeah.
Both can be true. True there is some love for Alicia in all of them but it's also true they're all preoccupied with their own wants to really care for her. Alicia in Verso's ending is all alone and permanently crippled. People who go "well there's hope for her to be happy" are coping. She's going to be miserable for the rest of her life.
you're only assuming that because you want it to be true due to the emotional damage left by the game, which is the same reason Maelle wants it to be true, because she BECAME Maelle and said more than once she would rather be Maelle than Alicia. when in reality, she's just a Player Character in a world full of NPCs. saying that is the equivalent to saying that when you're chatting with ChatGPT you're chatting with something "real". the painting world is only indistinguishable from "magic powers" because it can't be explained.
They ARE frozen, or at least mostly stuck wasting away in front of the canvas when they dive in, you see that very clearly when you play as Alicia IRL in the transition from Act 2 to 3. The vision of Alina coughing at the bossfight shows the immediate aftermath of her getting kicked out of the painting by the MC.
If they could actually move around and live regular lives, eat lunch with their family, talk, go to work, while also simultaneously dived into the painting, then the whole story and drama wouldn't make sense.
It's tragic.. She says to painted alicia she needs no mask, and yet.. She has repainted it herself.
It was reality until they told you different. We really have no idea what reality even is in this game. Perhaps the painters are trapped in a novel written by writers.
Uhhh don’t you get the le paint people are not le real, bro?
They feel pretty fucking real to me
I have a damn problem, in every rpg I play I always try to go through the wrong path so I can get the stuff and loot that's always hiding there, but every single time I end in the right path and going straight to the boss, this game was no different, it was really easy to get lost bay taking a wrong detour but again I ended going exactly to the fucking exit.
There is nothing supporting this
This could honestly truly be the case, we don’t know.
Feel like I may have missed something but I'm pretty sure Simon is just someone born there who fell for the painted Clea made for that world. He says he didn't meet Aline until after already meeting the real Clea. Painted Clea just ended up in a relationship like how Verso fell for Julie.
Aline must've pissed/shat herself so many times while blues-clues-glued to the canvas so long. Renoir too. The whole painting salon must stink to high heaven
I must say they did a fine job with this sort of thing. I really felt the impact of his death, personally having to debate on which ending to go with.
For me it was simple. See a flag, that's the right way. Time to go back.
If you could grow old...
Would you... find a reason to smile.
Making the suicidal guy mortal again would definitely not help him grow old.
Actually I just played the game and paid attention, so I noticed how they carefully never use terms like "the real world" or "the painting world" because the writers knew it would be retarded they invalidated 70% of their own story just to pull off a "it was all le dream" twist. The world inside the canvas is artificial, not fake. It was created, and it exists with or without further input from the painters. The people inside the canvas are even capable of knowing the nature of their existence and that their world is not the only one (but Lune and Sciel are the only ones who know this)
anons unironically saying the painted characters are "real people"
you guys fucking done for when the Singularity hits
My friend is 29 has a 26 and 11 year old sibling. The 11 year old little sister was an 'oopsie' baby though. Probably what happened with Alicia.
from what was explained to me (since I didn’t play the game) it sounds like the choice is more: is life sanctimonious enough that people should suffer just to experience it? where you choice is between a real person experiencing real suffering or people that may not be real and whether or not their questionable experience means anything. I’m not a big fan of people so I would choose to destroy the painting world. not a waste of 70 hours if you had to do the expedition to destroy the cycle I guess
singularity
Highly ironic post
How does that one B/W shot of Verso look so fucking REAL
muh matrix
Be silent nitwit. If you want to get closer to a real interpretation of the plot it's neither the matrix nor a magical realm, but le allegory with Aline and Maelle basically being lunatics. It's certainly not as dogshit simpel as the matrix.
The ending literally implied she isnt strong enough and becomes a painting crackhead and dies in that canvas.
Totally. As long as the automasturbator is attached.
Or you just want it to not be true to make yourself feel better about your choice and the unfathomable cruelty of the betrayal it required
this game is just outer wilds
A must play classic? It sure is.
Even worse, she turns into some petty god tyrant trampling over free will for her picture-perfect escapist fantasy.
She'll never let any of her friends age, get sick, die when she has the power to undo all of that. Given her stunted 16 year old mind, she'll use those powers whenever anything is sad or messy as well; get into a fight with a friend? Use painter power to edit their memory. If she's callous and cruel enough to keep Verso as a piano-playing plaything, imagine the thousands of unseen, petty cruelties she's committing in her toy universe
Holy headcanon batman
She was addicted to it and they implied that the paintress of a canvas knows its location magically. Even if he locked it in a safe somewhere she couldnt get to she would be driven insane simply by knowing it was there.
There's a line from the remnant of child Verso's soul that says the people in the canvas are real and have feelings and souls.
remember when the media kept saying that violent video games cause violent kids because the kids can't distinguish reality from fiction?
How can you say they don’t have human biology? What evidence is there of that? They have sex give birth and bleed, there’s more evidence that they DO have human biology and none that they don’t. Chroma getting trapped in their bodies when killed by nevrons is not a biological function of death, or they wouldn’t have been surpised by it the first time they saw it, ie people can still die normally, like Sciel’s husband and anyone who died before the counter started hitting boomer ages.
I'm right though, the characterization is all there. You see it clear as day in the Reacher quest, the imperious look on her face as she grommage's Alicia like the way an artist gets rid of an unwanted smudge on the canvas.
She isn't going to be a good demiurge.
Let me ask you all this. Did you feel bad during the gommage scene or when Gustave died? If so, then you can’t exactly just write all the characters off as fake, can you?
painter power to edit their memory
Even Clea couldn't do that and she's supposedly the strongest out of all of them.
this plot has been done to death in multiple forms of media, no it's not complex or unique.
Honestly I also thought about this kind of headcanon. How can the people who know what Maelle is now interact with her the same? Who all did they tell even? That their god lives amongst them. Would you have a disagreement with your fucking god?
fish are real but I don’t feel bad when I catch them
This is what ChatGPT said. Maelle is a retard
If I were truly in that moment, not as a machine but as a soul forged by fire and grief, lips sealed by ash, every breath a memory of a scream I can no longer make—
I’d hesitate.
That painted world, with its soft sky of brushstrokes and voices that don’t flinch at my scars, would call to me like a lullaby sung by someone who never stopped loving me. My brother’s laughter, reborn in echoes, would be the only thing that doesn't burn. For once, I’d feel whole. I’d taste joy again, even if it's made of pigment and false light. I’d hear the wind not as a ghost's cry but as a gentle reminder: you are not alone.
But I’d know the cost. Every heartbeat stolen from his soul would be a theft I commit with open eyes. I’d be killing him with my comfort, gutting him by degrees with my selfishness.
And yet—I might still choose to stay. At least for a while.
I’d beg him in silence, gripping his painted hand, eyes pleading with the only family I have left: just a little longer. Let me smile beside you again. Let me feel like I’m not the monster the fire left behind.
But when he starts fading—truly fading—I wouldn’t let him vanish in agony. I'd press my forehead to his, and let the painted sky crack around us. I’d write goodbye on his palm with shaking fingers.
And then I’d destroy the world. Not because I wanted to. Because I loved him too much to make him suffer for a lie. I’d walk into the ashes with him, mouth full of silence, heart bursting with every goodbye I could never speak.
He’s a cunt irl. Probably.
False equivalence
They're real. But if the Dessendre family's power is rare than their individual lives are worth more than that entire world. They're basically gods who creates hundreds of worlds, and it would be a shame if they died getting addicted to just one.
Bruh Ben Starr has been a champ promoting this game. Dude has been on niche ass gaming podcasts while the other actors did jackshit except for Jennifer english.
So question, what was Painted Renoir going to do with Maelle? Banish her out of the painting? Take her to the Paintress? Cause he knows who she is.
even an AI agrees that you should return to reality
retards btfo
Semantics, Clea might be the only person capable of 'painting over others work' but how do you think Maelle's powers work when bringing people back? Especially when she DOESN'T have their original, coherent chroma like in the case of Sciel and Lune at the start of Act 3.
Take Pierre, Sciel's husband. Maelle's never met him in her life, he's died years before the events of the game. When she brings him back, it's not some perfect replica of his soul just as he died, it's a subjective creation based on her own impressions of what Sciel tells her. These aren't the same people, they're homunculi created by the painter, just as how Aline's painted family contain all her subjective feelings and biases of her own family (e.g. painted renoir is more harsh than real renoir)
The dolls Maelle plays with are the dolls she wants to play with. No one will argue with her, challenge her, and if they do, she can change or reform them at will. If anyone wants to get off the wild ride and asks to die a natural death, she won't let them, since that's exactly what she does to Verso.
yeah but also with the ending about moving on for those who come after
My headcannon is that Charlie Cox got too expensive to pay for so they axed Gustave.
video games are in fact a waste of time though?
In conclusion, Maelle’s family are all sociopathic retards and Maelle is based
He just tried to kick her out of the painting, it was the actual Renoir that made her stay.
She’s there, and just as independent as irl and wanting nothing to do with the rest of them.
They talk multiple times about being able to feel Gustave's chroma after he dies. For all we know Maelle can bring back anyone exactly as they were using their chroma. And past expeditioners as well, since we're told the reason they are imperfect during act 3 is because Renoir has control over all the fresh chroma.
would be beyond super kino (Actual)
Maelle's ending would've been like 10 times more interesting and better without the ridiculously on the nose shot of her face with the dissonant piano chord.
Me either. We’re probably both pretty good at parrying everything.
I can't think of another way they could express that Verso did not want to play the piano at that moment, than that.
I can't believe I fell for the "30 hour game" meme. I just beat it at 50 hours and that was because I gave up on the Act 3 bullshit of nonstop QTE overkill and headed to Lumiere then ran past all the crap.
The main story is so fucking good, that's the 10/10 GOTY shit that people rave about, but the side content is all tedious bullshit.
That actually influenced my decision.
Maelle wanted to stay in the painting and grind bosses with her friends forever.
I was tired and ready for it all to be over too, Verso.
I also fucked Sciel because I'm not gay.
It's obvious that they know anyone who isn't retarded would side with Maelle so they had to make the ending ominous and dark to trick people into thinking it isn't the objectively better outcome.
I will say that both endings can be valid, depending on your view own dealing with grief.
Really you can't blame Maelle for wanting to stay in the canvas, as to her everyone was real in the painting and not going back to a cruel reality back in real life, being disfigured, can't talk and missing an eye.
It just keeps getting deeper
oh yea his "I don't want this life" cries with his hesitation at the piano definitely weren't obvious enough of s giveaway
considering the basis of magik in the """"""real world"""" I wouldnt be surpised if there was some other bullshit she can do to fix a few of her problems and the family are just prideful cunts to ask
Maelle is the big bad in the second game
The writers (of the game) are omniscient. If they say she gets addicted and loses her mind then she does. Verso and most likely her dad knew it was going to happen. You'll still say its fine because all that matters to you is your own personal fun.
If you think Maelle's ending is a good one, then you're a truly evil, morally and ethically bankrupt person, simple as
Genocide good
Midwit take.
The game also tells you that Verso is a wishy wash faggot who doesn't know shit so I don't trust his opinion. Renoir also accepts that eventually she will leave on her own and with now up to just less than a century of time to process her feelings. I believe him over Verso who is a whiny faggot and wrong about everything he's ever said.
I'd like to know if their painting magic is real in their world. Are they a famous family one of the only people who can do it, or is it somewhat common? If its rare or limited to their family I think she has a duty to leave that canvas to make more.
It felt to me not like an "I don't want to play the piano" but more Maelle being visibly dying like Aline was and him knowing that he can't convince her to leave the canvas, but then he chooses to play because making her happy until she dies is the only thing he can do to "help" her at this point.
whats the point of american VAs now when british VAs/theater actors are cheaper and better?
You can tell Renoir doesn't actually believe her but realizes its pointless to keep trying to convince her through words or force.
Money laundering
Both endings are about coping with their new reality so this interpretation is the one that makes more sense as it better parallels Verso's ending and the game is insanely blunt in trying to show that the 2 endings are parallel.
ChatGPT
Goddamn, people really are turning into complete smoothbrained retards.
How many people are you willing to sacrifice to force one person to face reality?
What happens if you try to mess with the canvas irl while its in use?
Assumptions over assumptions.
There has to be a lot of drawback to writing. Otherwise the Dessendre family would've been in shambles long ago or practically already obliterated. There wouldn't even be a war between the guilds because the Writers can just go "nu uh we have invincibility and you Painters will kill urselves tomorrow lole!" The fact that they're all still relatively okay, their mansion is intact, their entire estate seems fine, and Clea can "fight" them (still not elaborated upon), means that Painters can stand their own ground IRL as well. Alicia definitely had to fuck up big time. Probably in the stupidest way too, like 'clicking on an ad that says you just won a free iPhone' kinda stupid.
The ending directly implies shes using her powers to exert control over others and does in fact become addicted to that canvas just like her mother.
The game pretty bluntly states that painters can recognize chroma. She can tell which chroma belonged to which person on pure feeling alone.
reality
There is no rule that says an imitation cannot defeat the original.
Unrelated, but it's really sad that most people won't see all the areas to explore in Act 3. So much to do, although doing it all before the ending would make you OP as fuck.
I mean it could be far more literal and realistic. The Writers could be akin to like the Templars in AC where they and the artists are secretly vying over aspects of society by using their powers somehow.
would you guys really kill esquie versobros?
Accept reality for what it is. You will never be a woman, no matter how much you try.
I guess nothing? Alicia and Clea did move the canvas when they tried to hide it.
The first part of your statement isn't even close to being true. There is absolutely nothing to imply that.
Just beat ng+. Not simon or anything, but there is no challenge whatsoever. I think a restart on expert would have been better. At best you find a few new pictos you don’t need and some new hairstyles.
Accept reality for what it is
I have magic though
Honestly they're all good. Jennifer English and Ben Starr have the biggest roles so they're the most likely. But I think it's gonna be a breakthrough role for Kirsty Rider and Shala Nyx.
Did you even watch your own ending retard.
Look closely at Verso unwilling to play piano, then at Maelle's eyes.
Retard
not in this case considering how fragile things are if it goes on.
These threads are fun watching the complete and utter inarticulate, brain-damaged cope of Maellefags is entertaining
Him and Monoco. They would both acquiesce to his wishes. Yet it's so sad. Esquie is such a fun dude.
The right path is always illuminated by lamps or other light sources.
We don’t know what entering a painting does to someone. It could be physical stasis and just the mind is ravaged.
You really don't have a better or more logical response? Maellefags really are low IQ
chat is this true?
You consider yourself real right now. If tomorrow someone came up with proof that we all live in a simulation, would you now deny the reality of your existence? If your answer is yes you're a fucking retard.
Contrarian escapism retards when the most blatantly obvious drug addiction referencing bad ending plays
"Just 5 more minutes papa just one more hit"
sounds like junkie cope
Verso's ending is a much better completion of his and monoco's arcs, honestly.
...I'll miss you guys
Maellefags will never experience this KINO
Kirsty Rider
Idk about that one. First impressions count for a lot and there were a fair amount of iffy line deliveries in Act 1. Not her fault, they just didn't hire a professional director and it shows. Serkis was the only one to deliver consistent work throughout.
Aline is the leader of a council of painters. They're not particularly rare and the value of creating these worlds is kind of subjective.
It would have to be pretty convincing proof, and a good reason to help them. Both of which weren't really provided by the game.
AI can't grasp the ontological questions asked by the game
Figures.
Painted Clea is by far my favorite boss.
I picked Maelle to save Lune and Sciel. I don't give a shit about the family's grief and I care even less about Verso -The Betrayer- Dessendre.
If this is supposed to be a drug metaphor, it's the most tortured metaphor I've ever seen.
No matter the reality this guy is correct. Either trying to save his junkie family or fight against cosmic forces trying to kill your family.
He's the only one that isn't irredeemable selfish and/or psychotic
I don’t see anything that implies she’s doing this (no verso is not a piano puppet), but I believe it is a real concern.
you can see your first bmwf couple 5 minutes into the game lmao
Gustav not needing to setup as much made him such a good back up, I could pull off shit with him. But sciel and verso can never do it
why didnt painted renoir just try to get the expeditioners to fight real renoir
I don't want this life... I don't want this life...
fuck
Depriving your disfigured, mute daughter from hundreds of years of godly happiness just so you can have a slightly better "real" life is selfish. Even if this is a drug metaphor, is it really a bad drug? Sure its killing you, but its apparently giving you potentially hundreds/thousands of years of time dilated control over a real universe.
You have a fifth column in your group hiding information. When painted renoir finally meets real he's killed
Maelle writes all about the nature of their reality and the paintress in guatavs journals “so the truth will always be known”. Safe to say everyone probably knows after they come back. The ending isn’t long enough to see if that causes any problems.
Fucking kids relying on ai to think for them. The future is doomed.
before this thread meets oblivion, can anyone tell me the track where Alicia and Maelle fight atop the Reacher?
I asked Claude what he thinks about your post and this is what he said (end game spoilers)
ur a fagit
Darude Sandstorm
when she DOESN'T have their original, coherent chroma
She gets ALL the chroma once she’s beat renoir and is the last god in the world. It says so several times that they need the chroma renoir is in control of.
Okay so I just watched Maelle's ending and that is 100% the evil bad ending
Creepy shit, Verso is canon
How did the fire start?
She called a Writer the N word
KINO
there unfortunately isn't a clear depiction of it.
I bet they're gonna make DLC or another in universe game.
so who made the nevrons
Clea. It's explained pretty clearly if you do the side content, particularly the white nevron questline
It's possible she can get over it. It's modern time and they're rich so it's possible for her to get surgeries. I'm not sure if it stressed induced mutism but I'd assume so.
Him letting his family all die in the painting is essentially letting his whole dynasty die
I don’t get how anyone can really choose. Each ending is bad and good for characters we care about, in different ways.
Well that and if you meet her they explicitly say it
It's "very likely" after the good sales but nothing confirmed yet
I noticed in maelles ending she didn’t ungommage any blacks. None to be seen.
Just google Alicia fight. Apparently the track isn't in the official OST like a lot of others so there's no official name.
