When I started E33 I wasn't assblasted with expository cutscenes, you get a nice vignette that sets the Belle Epoque aesthetics then you can move your fucking character, get dialogue on a movement tutorial, and battle within 4 minutes.
You don't get an hour long cutscene to introduce the city and characters, you walk around and talk to them yourself. Or don't and just skip it all.

E33 dialogue was much more natural and the story unfolds like a good novel, giving you bread crumbs and making you put things together yourself. Japanese exposition is buglike, warping dialogue into unnatural constructs to force feed ridiculous amounts of plot and back story. How should I relate to such buglike behavior? E33 may have some plebbit overtones, but it’s largely well done and lacks a lot of the Marvel irony/snark faggotry. It has sincerity.

They didn't go to Kepler with this. This is the prototype.
They made a vertical slice during one year after that with love money and business angels funding mostly. The vertical slice already had the parry system.
Then they went to GDC in 2022 and most publishers were interested so they had multiple offers. They decided to sign with Kepler because they felt they would have the most uncompromised creative freedom with them.
